Blu-ray Review – Westworld Season One: The Maze

Ricky Church reviews Westworld Season One: The Maze…

Last year HBO had a breakout series with Westworld, a loose remake of the 1973 Michael Crichton film, about a Western immersion park where androids, otherwise known as hosts, take guests on a narrative journey through the Wild West, but there is more going on with the hosts than what’s shown on the surface.

Created by J.J. Abrams, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, Westworld is a very ambitious series with high concepts, but pays off with its writing, visuals, acting and story. The season’s story, and how its framed, is one of the best aspects of the whole show. Its unconventional narrative really pulled viewers into its world and took the time to invest viewers into the characters. It can be easy to let a cast of characters largely made up of robots fall by the wayside, making them unrelateable or their performance too robotic,

Westworld Actress Reaffirms Spring 2018 Premiere For Season 2

Westworld, the mind-boggling theme park where dreams are built and fantasies are fulfilled, will swing its doors back open in the spring of 2018.

That’s according to lead star Evan Rachel Wood (Dolores Abernathy), who reaffirmed season 2’s vague release window via Twitter (with a tip of the hat to Screen Rant). No other details were given – Wood’s tweet literally contains the words ‘spring 2018’ and nothing else – but it does align with HBO’s announcement that took place at Sdcc back in July.

Said to be twice as ambitious as the first, Westworld season 2 is all set to dive deep into the history of the park itself, including Ford’s (Anthony Hopkins) relentless pursuit of totally sentient artificial intelligence. And though it may ditch the multi-strand timeline that underpinned season 1 – thank heavens, as Westworld‘s debut was, at times, a bitch to keep track of – we’re confident that

Details are few and far between at this stage, and it’s unclear if this unfortunate “emergency” will have much of an effect on season 2’s release date.

Harvey Weinstein’s Rape Allegations: Nicole Kidman, Hillary Clinton, Anthony Bourdain, and More Speak Out (Updated)
Today’s New Yorker article revealed new allegations against Harvey Weinstein — including accusations he raped actress Asia Argento and two others — and prompted a number of Hollywood’s elite, politicians, and other notable names to issue statements and take to Twitter to support the brave women who have come forward to tell their stories.

It has been five days since the first Weinstein bombshell came in the form of a New York Times article — based on six months of exhaustive reporting by Jodi Kantor and Megan Thowhey — which detailed numerous accounts of sexual assault, harassment, and monetary settlements. Since the Times article, many in Hollywood have remained quiet, but with Sunday’s firing of Weinstein by his company’s board of directors and today’s article written by Ronan Farrow, the floodgates have opened.

Las Vegas Shooting: Film Community Sends Their Prayers and Demands Better Gun Control Laws
50 people attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival were killed Sunday night by a mass shooter in Las Vegas. The three-day festival was on its final night when the shooter, identified by law enforcement officials as Stephen Paddock of Mesquite, Nevada, opened fire into the outdoor venue near Mandalay Bay. Police have confirmed that over 200 people have been injured.

Hollywood, along with the rest of the country, is sending their prayers to families of the victims this morning. Many actors have taken to Twitter to send deepest condolences; some celebrities like “Westworld” Emmy nominee aren’t wasting any time in pressing the government to enact stricter gun control laws.

Jason Aldean was performing at the country music festival as the shooting began. With more than five dozen victims, the event is now the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

My heart is split open for the victims and their families in Las Vegas.

Steph Curry’s Wife Ayesha Claps Back After Donald Trump Rescinds Warriors’ White House Invitation

Emmys Review: Sleek, Sincere, but We’ve Still Got a Long Way to Go

Emmys Review: Sleek, Sincere, but We’ve Still Got a Long Way to Go
TV loves nothing more than sending viewers to a different dimension. So on Sunday night, CBS’ brisk, lively Emmy ceremony opened a portal to another world. It wasn’t the real world of TV, which still has miles to go when it comes to matters of representation, diversity and inclusion, but instead a place where the industry reassured itself that it was doing the work necessary to resist the worst of the present moment. And if part of that mindset was wishful thinking, well, it was nevertheless damnably difficult to resist.

As expected, there were many references to Donald Trump (and his lack of Emmys). And though Colbert’s opening monologue had some effective jabs, and now and then there was a subversive moment, the overall tone of the ceremony was rallying and earnest. There were a few references to the fact that it might be a little to early to engage in rampant self-congratulation: Bruce Miller, showrunner

‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Breaks the Emmy Awards Streaming Barrier, One of Several Records Shattered This Year
The streaming TV biz passed the ultimate Emmy threshold on Sunday night, as Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” made history.

“Handmaid’s Tale” picked up the win for outstanding drama series, which represents the first time a streaming service had one won of the top Emmy series prizes. It was just four years ago, in 2013, that Netflix became the first streaming platform to win an Emmy, as “House of Cards” picked up a handful of victories.

“Streaming has arrived, and we’re here to say what a wonderful journey,” said “Handmaid’s Tale” executive producer Warren Littlefield. Added exec producer Bruce Miller: “The way Hulu handled our show, they were bold and behind us and committed to making something interesting.”

The fact that Hulu was the first to land a top Emmy series prize, rather than Netflix, is a bit surprising, as Netflix came into this year’s
