2014 in film preview: thrillers

30 December 2013 3:36 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Thrills, spills and – hopefully – not too much bellyaching about our pick of 2014's upcoming thrillers

• 2014 preview: comedy

• 2014 preview: Oscar hopefuls

• 2014 preview: science fiction

• 2014 preview: romance

• 2014 preview: drama

Monuments Men

George Clooney gets the gang (Matt Damon, John Goodman, Bill Murray) back together for the greatest of capers – protecting works of art from the Nazis. Based loosely on Robert Edsel's book about the real life Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives programme, the trailer suggests the director/star has gone all Boys' Own on this one. Funny old gang of recruits mind – we can buy Clooney and Damon as rogues on a mission, but Murray and Goodman look more Dad's Army than Dirty Dozen. 1 January

Gone Girl

Gillian Flynn's best-seller gets a big-screen adaptation. Ben Affleck plays Nick Dunne, a struggling journalist implicated in the disappearance of his wife (Rosamund Pike), who went missing on the day of their fifth wedding anniversary. »

Clash of the Titans 3 not planned

30 December 2013 3:08 AM, PST | TotalFilm | See recent TotalFilm news »

If you're looking forward to a third outing of Sam Worthington's mythological beastie-bashing action series, you could be disappointed. The producer of both Clash and Wrath of the Titans has said there are no plans to resurrect the franchise.   Talking to IGN, Basil Iwanyk didn't completely rule out its return, but he was far from positive either when questioned on whether fans can look forward to Clash of the Titans 3.   "Not at this point, but you never know," he said. "In terms of Clash of the Titans 3, it's one of those situations...

‘Clash of the Titans 3′ Not Happening Without ‘Fresh’ Ideas

26 December 2013 9:42 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Warner Bros.Clash of the Titans remake was a hit at the box office in 2010 – despite (at best) lukewarm feelings towards the 3D mythological adventure – and so, two years later, the studio rolled out a second installment in the shape of Wrath of the Titans, and started developing a third chapter in the saga of Perseus (Sam Worthington). Wrath of the Titans was given a (slightly) warmer critical reaction than Clash, but the franchise suffered a substantial drop off in worldwide gross between movies ($493 million to $305 million), and has since laid dormant.

The ancient world/swords and sandal sub-genre will be back in full-force in 2014, with the release of titles like ...

Plans For Another Clash Of The Titans Movie Scrapped

24 December 2013 4:27 AM, PST | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

If you were hoping for the further adventures of Aussie Perseus (Sam Worthington) and his interchangeable pals you may be disappointed, as producer Basil Iwanyk has revealed to IGN that any plans for a third Titans movie are currently on hold. Despite being slightly better that Clash Of The Titans (which grossed $493.2 million worldwide), its sequel Wrath Of The Titans failed to do as well at the box office..and that usually means the death of a franchise. Asked outright if there were plans for a third movie, Iwanyk replied: “Not at this point, but you never know. In terms of Clash of the Titans 3, it's one of those situations where we've seen it a million times; a movie will kind of float away and then come back when it's supposed to come back. You'd think that there was three and a half, four years of nonstop Clash of the Titans »

Lara Bingle Shows Off New Thong in Topless Photo Taken by Boyfriend Sam Worthington

23 December 2013 2:11 PM, PST | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

If you were ever wondering about the view that Sam Worthington gets to enjoy in the bedroom... Lara Bingle shared a rather racy photo yesterday, taken by her Avatar star boyfriend, in which she's lying almost face-down in bed, her hair completely hiding her face, wearing nothing but a black thong. But while the shot looks a tad kinky, apparently the intimate photo shoot was all in the name of underwear sales. "Photo by @mrsamworthington#larabingleforcottononbody #newunderwear#comingsoon #newyork," Bingle wrote on Instagram. Then again, maybe this is their sort of thing: Worthington shared yet another equally topless bedroom pic of Bingle on Dec. 7, and the »

Arnie Takes On The Cartel In New Sabotage Trailer

23 December 2013 10:33 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

After his shattering cop drama End of Watch garnered Oscar buzz back in 2012, director David Ayer is moving to DEA officers for his next thriller, the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring Sabotage.

A new trailer for the film has hit the web today, and the biggest surprise in the preview may be just how good it looks. The marketing campaign takes the dramatic pressure off Arnie (likely a smart move) and instead heavily features both the film’s loaded supporting cast and its gritty action sequences.

Check it out below:

Sabotage centers on John Wharton (Schwarzenegger), the skilled leader of an elite DEA squad. When Wharton’s squad infiltrates a major drug cartel’s safe house and discreetly sets aside millions of dollars worth of cash for themselves, they soon become the targets of a mysterious assassin. With the DEA getting closer to the truth and the killer still gunning for members of his squad, »

If you were hoping for a “Clash of the Titans 3″ sometime soon, producer Basil Iwanyk says you should probably not hold your breath. New trailer for Sabotage, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger

Trailer Simon Brew 23 Dec 2013 - 07:36

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sam Worthington star in David Ayer's Sabotage. Here's the latest trailer...

Arriving in cinemas next year is Arnold Schwarzenegger's latest starring vehicle, Sabotage, which sees him opposite the likes of Sam Worthington, Terrence Howard, Malin Akerman and Olivia Williams. Currently earmarked for an April release, perhaps the other big selling point about the film is director David Ayer, whose last movie - End Of Watch - was really very good indeed.

This new trailer for Sabotage plays up the action quotient, and whilst we enjoyed The Last Stand, this may yet be the standalone project to put Schwarzenegger's career back on a more level footing.

Take a look at the new trailer and see what you reckon. Might be good, this one...

Second Explosive Sabotage Trailer Is Almost Exactly The Same As The First

21 December 2013 10:24 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Usually when a high profile release puts out a second trailer, it.s evident that someone involved in the film.s marketing took the time to make sure it has a personality all on its own and doesn.t just retread all the same footage and dialogue as the first one. That is not at all the case with this second preview for David Ayer.s bullet-seeping Sabotage, which is nearly identical to our first look at the film last month. Obviously it.s not unheard of for trailers to appear similar, but this is kind of ridiculous; it.s like they made an international version and just forgot to add the subtitles. But I guess when a trailer involves Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sam Worthington and Joe Manganiello emptying magazines and exploding things, there really isn.t much of an impetus to move towards something different. The first trailer for David Ayer's Sabotage, formerly titled Ten as a nod to Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians", only dropped about a month ago, but a new cut is now available.  While the first trailer provided a good introduction to the story and established the feeling of camaraderie among the members of the DEA task force, this new version raises the stakes for all involved.  Led by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the team makes a career bust when they take down a drug cartel's safe house.  When a big chunk of the money goes missing, members of the crew are assassinated one by one, and the real danger appears not from outside the group, but from within.
