In his teens, worked as a jazz promoter and organiser of concerts for performers like Charlie Parker and Billie Holiday. Later became manager for comedian Lenny Bruce. From the 1950's, began writing monologues for well-known comics, as well as co-authoring comedic film scripts (three of them in collaboration with Arne Sultan of "Get Smart" fame)..
