London’s Focus, a meeting place for the international production community, is ready to return in December for an “ambitious” eighth edition.
“It’s all about volume and ambience. This will probably define Focus this year,” says managing director Jean-Frédéric Garcia. “People expect this show floor to be buzzy.”
The two-day live event, which will unspool at the Business Design Centre from Dec. 6-7, will offer a “packed” program, he says. Focus Virtual is set to follow on Dec. 8 and 9.
“Our virtual edition back in 2020 was a learning curve, but it proved great for extending our reach. We don’t want to lose that,” says Kate Hughes, director of marketing and communications, mentioning this year’s registrations hitting “record levels.”
With its conference program presented in partnership with Variety and sponsored by Ccs Rights Management, Focus continues to embrace growing convergence of audiovisual formats, attracting professionals from across film, TV,...

A group of producers and entertainment executives is heading to New York for a series of talks and one-on-one networking sessions over October 6-8.
Film i Väst, the Swedish regional film fund, sponsors the trip, which is organised by London and La-based consultants MediaXchange.
Mediaxchange CEO Katrina Wood (pictured), said the aim of the delegation – which she described as “very much the cream of the crop in Sweden” – was to foster close ties and build towards a reciprocal trip in February 2015 during the Gothenburg Film Festival.
“The goal is to build a bridge between the industry there and the Swedes in a more substantial way then has been done in the past, which was very much on a project-by-project basis,” said Wood.
“Delegates will be there for three days during the New York Film Festival to understand the issues of working in the Us market and to meet some of the experts there. The majority...

Covert Affairs is a surprisingly smart espionage procedural which is simultaneously built on the unrealistic TV tradition of Bond Girls and a more realistic tradition of espionage procedurals.
Female spies on TV have always been heavily influenced by Bond Girls, although TV influenced Bond as well. Two of the earliest female spies on TV, Cathy Gale...
