Update: Alexander Ludwig, who played the natural born killer Cato in The Hunger Games, is taking a much lighter role: David Spade's son in Grown-Ups 2. Ludwig joins other heart-throbby types like Taylor Lautner and David Henrie. Ludwig's previous work includes starring in Race to Witch Mountain and The Seeker: The Dark is Rising.
May 14, 2012 -- Taylor Lautner (Twilight), Oliver Cooper (Project X), Cheri Oteri (Sleeping Beauty in the Shrek movies) and Nick Swardson (Jack and Jill) are joining the cast of Grown-Ups 2. Swardson will play Rob Schneider's brother, a school bus driver who is also a drunk. Oteri, one of Adam Sandler's former "SNL" castmates, will play Sander's ex-girlfriend from junior high who now works in his wife's (Salma Hayek) store. Cooper will play a frat boy type (see David Henrie's role below). Lautner's role hasn't been disclosed except to say it's "fun" and that his »

Adam Sandler's first sequel, Grown Ups 2 , appears to be adding a surprising addition to its cast. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Taylor Lautner is in negotiations to appear in what is described as a "fun" role. The article also confirms that the entire cast of the original film -- Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Maya Rudolph and Salma Hayek -- will be returning, along with Grown Ups director Dennis Dugan and writer Fred Wolf. Lautner, who also headlined last year's Abduction , is best known for his role in The Twilight Saga , which he'll reprise one final time later this year in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -Part 2 . Grown Ups 2 is planned for a July 12, 2013 release. (Photo Credit: WENN.com) »

Considering "Grown Ups" was the highest-grossing film Adam Sandler has ever been a part of, it doesn't come as too much of a surprise to hear that he has been hard at work trying to bring the gang back together for a follow-up. The film starred a collection of Sandler's friends including Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider, and went on to resonate strongly with audiences.
News broke earlier this month that "Grown Ups 2" has allegedly carved out a July 12, 2013 release date with original writer Fred Wolf in negotiations to pen a screenplay. MTV News caught up with Rock while he was at Sundance promoting his film "2 Days in New York," and he confirmed that he definitely has heard from Sandler about making another movie together. He just doesn't know if it will be "Grown Ups 2," or something different.

[1] Technically, I guess the PG-13 Grown Ups doesn't really qualify as a kids' film, so its sequel probably won't either. But since that movie centered around five grown men acting like children, I'll say that that this Sequel Bits is all about the young'uns. After the jump: Jessica Chastain and Bryan Cranston somehow cram Madagascar 3 into their very, very busy schedules Steven Spielberg talks The Adventures of Tintin 2 and 3 To the surprise of no one, Antonio Banderas would like to do a Puss in Boots 2 Adam Sandler's Grown Ups 2 gets a summer 2013 release date DreamWorks' Madagascar franchise has never had trouble pulling in well-known stars, with Ben Stiller, David Schwimmer, Chris Rock, and Jada Pinkett Smith voicing the core characters and actors like Sacha Baron Cohen, Frances McDormand, and Cedric the Entertainer lending their vocal talents to the various films as well. That bad dream you had about "Grown Ups 2" late last year isn't going away. The sequel-to-be has reportedly been given a summer release date of July 12, 2013.
Fred Wolf, the original scribe of the comedian-heavy comedy ("comedy"), is in negotiations to pen the sequel. The 2010 flick reunited "SNL" alums (Adam Sandler, David Spade, Chris Rock and Rob Schneider) with Kevin James, and -- despite critical scorn -- made a pretty penny. "Grown Ups" wound up grossing 1 million worldwide.
Sandler is potentially interested in revisiting his role as one of five dudes who, after the loss of their basketball coach, decide to go on a high school-style bender. (Hey, grief takes all forms.)
"Grown Ups 2" would mark the first sequel to one of Sandler's projects. Hopefully he doesn't get any ideas about "Just Go With It 2," "Jack and Jill 2," "The Waterboy 2"... ("Happy Gilmore 2" might not be so bad, though.)

With no hesitation whatsoever, I named Grown Ups the worst movie of 2010 at the end of that year, not so much because it was badly made, but because its laziness and smug self-regard seemed to embody everything awful about Hollywood, stardom, modern comedy, and the awful moviegoers who turned it into a huge hit. Before the year was over and we could safely forget about it, Adam Sandler started talking up his hopes for a sequel, and clearly our collective ability to wish it out of existence wasn't enough. Coming Soon reports that Grown Ups 2 isn't just happening, but that it has a release date in place: July 12, 2013. Though the original film's writer Fred Wolf is in negotiations to write this screenplay, they say Sandler is only "potentially interested" in returning, which is strange. Though the first movie was sold on the collective appeal of the ensemble cast, Sandler is »

I'm starting to think that if the world ends this year, it may not be so bad. Last night, the new Rob Schneider sitcom, Rob, premiered to 13.5 million viewers. Today, we've learned that Sony Pictures plans to release on Grown Ups 2 on July 12, 2013. This is sad but not surprising. Last month, we reported that Adam Sandler and screenwriter Fred Wolf were in talks for a potential sequel. That happens when you make the highest grossing movie of your career ($271 million worldwide). There's no word if co-stars Kevin James, Chris Rock, Schneider, and David Spade will return, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did. I imagine Spade and Schneider work for cheese sandwiches and a smile. Perhaps the underperformance of Jack and Jill ($88 million worldwide) may have driven Sandler to the first sequel of his career. It's disturbingly impressive that to this point he kept finding new ways to make »

Even though "Jack & Jill" scraped the bottom of the Adam Sandler barrel, proving to be one of the worst box office outings he's had in years, Sony still believes in the comedian. And why not. In 2010 audiences made "Grown Ups" the second biggest hit of his career (behind "Big Daddy") and the studio wants to keep that gravy train rolling. And now they've set a date. "Growns Ups 2" will fart, burp, poop and put a KFC bucket on your head on July 12, 2013. Oh great. The film's original writer Fred Wolf was hired back last month to write the sequel, which would be Sandler's first, and negotiations are in the works for everyone to come back. For Sony, they're banking on America having amnesia and forgetting what a pile of shit the original movie was. For Sandler and his buddies, it's another expensive, paid vacation where they get to goof off and call it a movie. »

It's finally happened. For the first time in his career, Adam Sandler is making a sequel. However, instead of going back to some of his revered comedies like 1996's Happy Gilmore or 1998's The Waterboy, Sandler is returning to his most financially successful movie, 2010's Grown Ups.
Almost universally , Grown Ups earned $271 million in worldwide box office, nearly as much as both of Sandler's 2011 movies, Just Go With It and Jack and Jill, combined. Coming Soon reports that Sony Pictures is targeting a July 12, 2013, release date for the sequel. Screenwriter Fred Wolf, who co-wrote Grown Ups with Sandler, is in negotiations to write the sequel.
According to the report, Sandler isn't completely locked for Grown Ups 2, but is expected to return along with his former Saturday Night Live co-stars, including David Spade, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, as well as Kevin James, who would all reprise their roles as five childhood friends coping with fatherhood. »

Last month we learned that Adam Sandler and Columbia Pictures were negotiating to develop a sequel to "Grown Ups." Now comes word that the studio has already set the new film for a July 12th, 2013 release. You might be asking yourself why Sandler would choose "Grown Ups" as the first of his films that he will create a sequel for. The reason is simple: "Grown Ups" is his highest-grossing movie ever, having earned $271 million worldwide. Fred Wolf, who wrote the first film, is now in talks to write the script for the sequel. Sandler has expressed interested in reprising his role as one of the five friends, but his involvement has yet to be confirmed. Co-stars Kevin James, David Spade, Chris Rock and Rob Schneider are expected to return. »

Over at the Digital Dorm today, they're debating which is the funniest Adam Sandler movie, Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore. Sadly for Sandler, that's about where the funny ended. His most recent film, Jack And Jill, should sweep the Razzies and now he's looking to sequelize his other worst film. Coming Soon is reporting that Sony Pictures has set a July 12, 2013 release date for Grown Ups 2, which has original writer Fred Wolf returning to work on the script. Sandler has not yet »

First rumored last month , Grown Ups 2 is moving forward, targeting a July 12, 2013 release. The original film's writer, Fred Wolf, is in negotiations to write the script with Adam Sandler potentially interested in reprising his role as one of five friends dealing with fatherhood. A Grown Ups sequel would mark the first time that Sandler sequelized one of his own projects. If he does, indeed, decide to return, it would quite likely be alongside his four co-stars from the original, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade. The July 12th release date is currently unoccupied by any competition. Sandler's most recent film, Jack and Jill underperformed at the box office, grossing $88.7 million worldwide. That's roughly a third of the $271 million that Grown »
