  • DailyDead
[Hello, readers! With Valentine's Day just around the corner, we here at Daily Dead thought it would be fun to do things a little different this year. We're putting the spotlight on our favorite horror-loving characters from genre cinema, people who have represented our own fandom on screen and, in many cases, helped bring our passion for horror into the mainstream. Be sure to check back here on Daily Dead every day through Valentine's Day for our tributes to some of the greatest horror fans to ever grace the big screen.]

“Kill your brother. You’ll feel better.” Such is the self-assured advice of Mr. Alan Frog (Jamison Newlander), one-half of the Frog Brothers, the Santa Carla vampire-killing duo from Joel Schumacher’s 1987 glampire flick, The Lost Boys. He is addressing Sam (Corey Haim), the new kid in town who has noticed his brother Michael (Jason Patric) suffering some very strange symptoms, including staying up late at night, showing a translucent reflection, and having the ability to uncontrollably float past Sam’s room.

Equipped with little more than two fingers slapped together in a makeshift crucifix, Sam is clearly in over his head. Thankfully, the Frog Brothers are more than happy to impart on Sam their collective wisdom on vampires, which you might also know as night crawlers, bloodsuckers, or even el vampiro. Their overzealous need to share this knowledge would be right at home in a horror convention, because at their core,

Over the weekend, Davis (whose recent print retrospective for An American Werewolf in London sold out in record time) hosted a 30th anniversary panel at Imats (International Make-Up Artist Trade Show) 2017 Los Angeles to celebrate the brilliant special effects of The Lost Boys, and he brought a few friends along with him, including co-stars Alex Winter, Jamison Newlander, and Billy Wirth, as well as legendary makeup artists Ve Neill, Greg Cannom, and Steve Laporte.

Even though we recently ran our Practical-ly Perfect column for this month,

With Echoes now available on Blu-ray and DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment, we had a chance to talk with Timm, who discussed taking a unique approach to the haunted house sub-genre, portraying the different social masks people wear in real life, his personal brush with sleep paralysis during filming, and much more.

What attracted you to the subject of sleep paralysis?

Nils Timm: Before I wrote Echoes, I was researching a lot of stories about lucid dreaming. I was experimenting with that a little bit myself, read everything about it, and interviewed several people in circles of friends and colleagues about this. At least one out of every six or seven people would say, ‘Yes,

Dreams and Reality Get Blurred When Anchor Bay Unleashes Festival Hit Echoes On DVD/Bluray This April!

I’m a big fan of surrealist horror, whether it be any of the good A Nightmare On Elm Street entries, or even recent films, like last year’s Mr. Jones. While I dig realistic slasher films and they tend to scare the living hell out of me (the monster living next door is much scarier than the ones in our dreams), there’s something about getting lost inside of a fantastical dream world where a film’s protagonist has the fight off whatever may or may night be real or in their dreams. Enter Nils Timm’s Echoes, a film that took the festival circuit by storm, and one that the always reliable gang at Anchor Bay is ready to unleash on horror fans via DVD/Bluray this April 14th. With a cast filled by Steven Brand (“Teen Wolf,” The Scorpion King), Kate French (Channeling, “Gossip Girl,” “One Tree Hill

Event Report and Image Gallery: Bizarre AC II

Bizarre AC II took place June 13-15 at the Tropicana in Atlantic City, and Dread Central went down-the-shore to check it out! Here's our event report plus an overflowing image gallery.

Having traveled to different conventions across the country, I am always searching for that old-school vibe I felt back in the 90’s. I would go to every NYC Weekend of Horrors starting at the age of 14 with my horror-loving father, Joseph Buckley (a man who used to buy Don Post Frankenstein masks from Famous Monsters to scare the kids with in the Heights of Jersey City but would not get the Monster inked on him while in the Navy because he thought it would upset his dad).

Bizarre AC II had that feeling… the feeling of the old ways, the old time when horror was new and everything you saw was not readily available from an online chain store.
