December Movie Trailer Round Up

31 December 2010 4:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

This month has been one of the best that I can remember for trailers. All the studios were desperate for their trailer to get released before the Christmas holidays and we were inundated with posts. Since I love trailers so much, the inundation was most welcome. In what I am considering making a monthly post, here’s a roundup of all the trailers so far for December which I have embedded below for your viewing pleasure!

I’ve embedded them in the order in which they were released start December 1st to 31st and if I miss any, please let me know and I’ll update the post.

I really want this to be intereactive so make sure you tell us which trailers you liked the best and which you think will be great or terrible movies from what you’ve seen! So, let’s go!

Owf’s 52 Must See Films of 2011

24 December 2010 11:00 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Usually around this time of the year we list maybe 10 or 20 films that we think are as absolute ‘Must See’s’ for what the next 12 months of cinema has to offer us but as the clock is ticking ever closer to midnight on 2010, we thought we would challenge ourselves a little further this time around. The question I posed to the Owf staff recently was… can Cinema in 2011 produce enough ‘Must See’ films to hit 52, which would ratio out to be just one film per week? That’s all we are hopeful for here… just one film every Friday that justifies us parting with our ever increasingly important cash in these tough economic times.

Did we manage to find 52? Kind of.

There’s certainly 52 films listed here but once we got to around 30, the whole thing became a struggle and we had to fill it out disappointingly with the usual array of over-budgeted summer spectacles, »

Johnny Depps “Natural Acting Experience”

24 December 2010 5:18 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Paramount have releases in their run-up to the animated feature Rango a nice wee featurette on the techniques director, Gore Verbinski (Pirates Of The Caribbean) utilised when making his first animated film.

The featurette shows how, much like Avatar and other motion capture techniques, the actors themselves act out every moment but more as a animators guide rather than the preciseness that Avatar and others aim for.  It does look fun but also promotes itself as a completely unique way of animated filmmaking which is not the case as this is something Nick Park over at Wallace And Gromit have been doing for years.

Rango also has a large and impressive cast for a animated feature outside of Pixar, Disney and Dreamworks with Johnny Depp, Bill Nighy (Underworld), Timothy Olyphant (Justified), Isla Fisher (Confessions Of A Shopaholic), Alfred Molina (Spiderman 2), Ned Beatty (Homicide Life On The Street / Deliverance), Ray Winstone »

Choose The 1998 Academy Award Winners!

23 December 2010 6:30 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

I love that a heated discussion over Titanic’s infamous Oscar sweep of 1998 has already begun over at Laurent’s excellent retrospective. I guess it’s just the nature of this particular film. There is something about Titanic that hits a raw nerve in people and they feel a need to defend/criticize it so passionately.

As it happens, I fall in the ‘unconditional love’ category and I’m not afraid to admit it. To this day I have a passion for Titanic, a film that so perfectly matches what a glorious, spellbinding, big spectacle romance against an historic backdrop should be, and those films are so rare, especially when they are made with such precise and meticulous detail from James Cameron.

We shouldn’t be embarrassed over how much we loved Titanic in the 90′s. We should embrace it. So as our third ‘Choose The Winners’ article, we are »

Must Watch: Fantastic New 'Rango' Featurette with Johnny Depp

23 December 2010 6:09 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

If anyone was on the edge with Rango, this will definitely push you all the way over. Paramount debuted a new behind-the-scenes featurette on Yahoo for Gore Verbinski's upcoming animated movie Rango, which we just featured a theatrical trailer for last week. The video shows how actors Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Ned Beatty, Ray Winstone and Harry Dean Stanton recorded voices. This is such a fun and unique way to make an animated flick, using a small soundstage and actual interaction (Fantastic Mr. Fox did something similar), which is one of the many reasons why I think Rango looks so damn good. Enjoy! Watch a behind-the-scenes featurette for Gore Verbinski's Rango: You can also watch the new Rango featurette in High Def on Yahoo Rango is being directed by filmmaker Gore Verbinski, of The Mexican, The Ring, The Weather Man, and all three Pirates of the Caribbean movies. »

Johnny Depp a Natural Chameleon In ‘Rango’ Behind-The-Scenes Featurette

23 December 2010 4:37 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

We premiered the theatrical full-length trailer for Gore Verbinski‘s animated Rango last week, we have a behind-the-scenes look at the Ilm animation. After working with him on Pirates of the Caribbean 1-3, Johnny Depp returns to lead the voice acting. He is joined by Alanna Ubach, Abigail Breslin, Isla Fisher, Alfred Molina, Ray Winstone, Harry Dean Stanton, and Ned Beatty.

Yahoo has our first behind-the-scenes look below, and it looks like the cast and crew had a hell of a time on set. Most behind-the-scenes for animated films just shows the actors in a booth emoting to a microphone. Check out Verbinski’s “natural” method below.

Synopsis: The story of a chameleon with an identity crisis.

Rango hits theaters March 4th, 2011.

Watch How Johnny Depp Performed ‘Rango’ – Could This Be The Future of How Animated Movies Are Made?

23 December 2010 1:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Paramount Pictures has released a new behind the scenes featurette for Pirates of the Caribbean helmer Gore Verbinski's computer animated feature film Rango. The new featurette, titled "Behind the Scenes: Natural Acting Experience", takes a look at the techniques employed to (as Verbinski has explained) "capture and translate every aspect of Johnny Depp’s performance, using it to drive the computer-generated character in a way that has yet to be seen in an animated feature." Imagine something like how they filmmed Avatar, but without all the motion capture suits, balls, and green screen. The techniques are as interesting as the resulting animation. I got a chance to preview 10 or 15 minutes of the film at Butt-num-a-thon, and was blown away. The film looks unlike any computer animated film I've ever seen -- a blend of two polar opposites: realistic animal creatures and stylized animation and characterization. Most everyone I talked »

New Featurette Takes us Behind the Scenes of Rango

23 December 2010 1:00 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Yahoo have released a new featurette which shows us just how Rango was created and it’s rather amazing! Rango has a voice cast which includes Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Bill Nighy, Ray Winstone, Timothy Olyphant, Abigail Breslin, Alfred Molina and is directed by original director of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Gore Verbinski.

Now, i say that this movie has a voice cast but this featurette shows that the voices cast actually had to do quite a bit of acting too as Verbinski had all the actors together when they were recording their various vocal parts and also had them acting the part which, as Bill Nighy will tell you, meant the actors had to raise their game. This is possibly the best behind the scenes featurette that I’ve seen for an animated movie weh nit comes to the actors recording their lines, and I know you’ll really enjoy watching it! »

New Rango Featurette: Natural Acting Experience

23 December 2010 12:00 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Paramount has released a new behind the scenes featurette called "natural acting experience" from Gore Verbinski's Rango.  While I was already excited to see Ilm's first feature length animated movie due to the trailer, this featurette has me even more amped.  The reason is, unlike most animated movies which feature the actors delivering their dialogue alone, Verbinski had the entire cast acting out the scenes like a play, which I'm sure led to a lot of discovery with the script and many improvised moments.  I wonder if the Blu-ray release will feature a split screen so you can see the animated scenes next to the actors recording the dialogue.  Trust me, the way they captured Rango is as radical a process for animation as I have ever seen.  You definitely want to check out this feturette.  Rango hits theaters March 18,2011.
