Why There's A Slight Chance You Won't Like The Avengers

2 May 2012 10:04 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

In some ways, The Avengers is exactly like Police Academy 6: City Under Seige. Let me explain. By the time we.d reached the sixth Police Academy film, those who still bothered to watch knew the drill. Bubba Smith was the gentle giant of the wacky cop force. Leslie Easterbrook was the curvaceous but tough Capt. Callahan. David Graff.s Tackleberry loved guns, and Michael Winslow made funny noises with his mouth. Explanations weren.t necessary because we.d lived with these characters for years, and their quirks were part of the fabric of the Police Academy formula. Same goes for The Avengers, which isn.t really .Part 6,. though it is the sixth film in a string of features Marvel Studios has rolled out in order to set this blockbuster up. And so, as a result, casual moviegoers grabbing a ticket to Joss Whedon.s massively entertaining movie because it »

Michael Winslow: the new Police Academy film, Shaquille O'Neal as Hightower?

21 March 2012 12:43 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

A new director, a November shoot, and Shaquille O'Neal as Hightower? Michael Winslow has just given a big update on the plans for the new Police Academy...

We’re indebted to Den Of Geek reader Nicholas Higton for this one. Michael Winslow, the one-man noise machine from the Police Academy movies, is currently in the UK promoting his one man tour. And he appeared on TalkSport radio, specifically the Hawksbee and Jacobs show, yesterday afternoon.

While on the show, he was asked what the current status of the long-mooted new Police Academy movie was. Turns out, he had quite an update.

Asked whether the plan was to get the old team back together, Winslow admitted he’d spoken to Steve Guttenberg about this, and that the plans was “to try and get as many people as possible” back for the new film.

Then, Winslow noted that two major members of »

Lol & Order: Kid Humming Law & Order Theme Is Legally The Best

26 January 2012 2:54 PM, PST | BestWeekEver | See recent BestWeekEver news »

Here’s an adorably committed kid humming the Law & Order theme song while accompanying himself by banging a washing machine. It is, without a doubt, the best musical performance I’ve seen so far in 2012. It’s like a young Michael Winslow meets a young Stomp meets a regular-age Law & Order. Is it too early to crown a Song Of The Summer? Cause I just enscribed that crown then set it on that washing machine. Law & Order, meet Lol & Awesome: Between this video and John Mulaney’s Svu standup bit on Conan, it’s been an exciting 24 hours for Law & Order themed things. Not to mention the 56 hours of actual Law & Order that aired during that timespan. (Thanks, @haulihan!) »

Steve Zabielski To Direct Police Academy Remake

10 January 2012 8:57 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

New Line are pushing forward with their reboot of the Police Academy franchise with the hiring of rookie filmmaker Scott Zabielski to direct a remake. Zabielski is best known for his work producing and directing episodes of  the Comedy Central show “Tosh.0,” but will be making his feature film debut with the remake.

Released by Warner Bros (who now own New Line) in 1984, Police Academy was an outrageous comedy about a bunch of well to do but incompetent and unqualified misfits who are recruited due to a police shortage in an unnamed American city. The film starred Steve Guttenberg, G.W. Bailey, Bobcat Goldthwait, Bubba Smith, David Graf, Marion Ramsey, Michael Winslow, Kim Cattrall and Sharon Stone.

Grossing $146 million worldwide, the success of the film spawned a seven film franchise. Warner Bros have been looking at cheap to produce films that can ignite franchises in the wake of the highly lucrative »

Police Academy Remake

10 January 2012 12:33 AM, PST | www.themoviebit.com | See recent TheMovieBit news »

I don’t know anymore. I really don’t! The one thing you thought would never be remade, is about to get remade, as Scott Zebielski has been hired by New Line to direct the remake of the 80s comedy. Apparently Zebielski is a reserve officer in West Hollywood as well, so that may bring something to the table. But in all seriousness, do we need a remake of Police Academy? Lets hope all 500 Police Academies aren’t in line for the remake treatment, because they stopped being funny after the fourth one (at a push) That said, at least give Michael Winslow some sort of cameo, as for me and many others, Motormouth Jones made the movies enjoyable to some extent.

Scott Zabielski Signed to Direct ‘Police Academy’ Remake

9 January 2012 5:30 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

The ancient remake advice is 'remake something terrible,' and New Line is certainly following that to the letter by hiring Scott Zebielski to direct a remake of the '80s comedy Police Academy. But is there any chance that this version of the story will actually be any better than the '84 one? That original is the story of a bunch of bumbling misfits who train to become cops when their city, hard up for extra help, opens the Academy to anyone. What wonders will the remake offer? If there is an advantage to hiring Zebielski to make this version, it is that he actually went to the police academy in La, and is a reserve officer in West Hollywood. So maybe this will be a staggeringly realistic depiction of the rigors of police training. With a Steve Guttenberg cameo, of course. Instead, we'll probably get a post-economic downturn »

New Line Taps Scott Zabielski for Totally Necessary ‘Police Academy’ Remake

9 January 2012 5:30 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Variety has just broke the story that New Line Cinema has signed on Scott Zabielski to direct its upcoming remake of the lowbrow 1984 comedy Police Academy. Zabielski comes from television, most notably as director of several episodes of the Comedy Central show Tosh.o (a viral video clipfest hosted by comedian Daniel Tosh). According to Deadline, who also claim to have broken the story, Zabielski is actually a reserve police officer in West Hollywood so he has first-hand knowledge of police academies so there’s at least some sort of thinking behind this besides “he’s cheap, let’s hire him!”.

The original Police Academy, which followed a group of new recruits to the police squad that were less than qualified (zoinks!), was successful enough to spawn six sequels as well as two TV shows (one animated in 1988, and one live-action in 1997) . It also helped launch the careers of Steve Guttenberg »

Scott Zabielski to Direct Police Academy Remake

9 January 2012 | Comingsoon.net | See recent Comingsoon.net news »

New Line is moving forward with their planned remake of Police Academy and have placed Scott Zabielski at the helm. Known for producing and directing episodes of "Tosh.0," Zabielski will be making his feature film debut. The original seven-film comedy series starred actors such Steve Guttenberg, G.W. Bailey, Bobcat Goldthwait, Bubba Smith, David Graf, Marion Ramsey, Michael Winslow, Kim Cattrall and Sharon Stone and detailed the comical misadventures of police training. Bizarrely, one bit of Zabielski's resume that seems to have helped him get the gig is the fact that he has actually trained in law enforcement and works to this day as a West Hollywood reserve officer. »
