The Dark Tower trailer features Easter eggs for The Shining and It

4 May 2017 8:40 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Yesterday fans got their first look at the long-awaited trailer for the film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series of novels, but tucked away in the background of Matthew McConaughey’s Man in Black unleashing hell on earth and Idris Elba’s Gunslinger performing one of the sickest looking reloads in cinematic history is a photograph of the Overlook Hotel present in arguably the author’s most famous work, The Shining.

There is also a brief shot of young hero Jake stumbling across a destroyed circus with some balloons floating, hinting at Pennywise the Clown and It.

For those unaware, the different worlds found within The Dark Tower are used as a hub to connect all of Stephen King’s novels into a singular universe – something the film is clearly tipping its hat too with these references.

Should we be worried about The Dark Tower? After all, we’re only four months from release and the first trailer only landed yesterday [watch it here]. It invokes memories of a few years ago when 20th Century Fox held back trailers for Fantastic Four because there was a lot of trouble brewing behind the scenes. The same thing happened last year when Sony kept delaying the first trailer for their Ghostbusters remake. Can we expect to see similar stories coming out of The Dark Tower once the dust has settled?

We’ll soon find out but for now, let’s see what the Flickering Myth staff thought of the trailer.

Shining and It Easter Eggs Discovered in The Dark Tower Trailer

3 May 2017 5:03 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

At long last, the very first trailer for the long-in-development adaptation of The Dark Tower has arrived. The movie comes out in just a few short months and we now have a good sense of what Stephen King's epic fantasy series looks like in live-action form. Those who have read the books know that The Dark Tower takes a lot of lore from other Stephen King books and ties it all together. So, quite appropriately, there are a few Easter eggs in The Dark Tower trailer to other Stephen King works, such as It and The Shining.

Sony's first trailer for The Dark Tower has quite a few people excited, but die hard fans of the novels will be quick to notice that the movie is going to be very different. That is because it isn't adapting any of the eight books directly. Instead, the movie is taking place »

The Dark Tower trailer analysis and breakdown

3 May 2017 12:17 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

John Saavedra May 4, 2017

The first trailer for Stephen King's The Dark Tower has arrived, and we found tons of references, clues, and easter eggs...

For a long time, it was thought to be impossible - a film adaptation of Stephen King's fantasy horror epic about a Gunslinger traveling through different worlds to stop an evil Man in Black from destroying the fixed point that holds all of reality together: the Dark Tower. Yet, we'll finally see this story on screen, as the man in black flees across the desert, and the gunslinger follows.

After suffering several setbacks through the years - getting this movie made has been a journey almost as epic as Roland's - The Dark Tower is almost here. Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) directed and co-wrote the film adaptation. Fellow Danish filmmaker Anders Thomas Jensen helped rewrite the script, which was originally penned by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner. »

Must Watch: First Trailer for Nikolaj Arcel's 'The Dark Tower' Movie

3 May 2017 5:11 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"The tower protects both our worlds. If it falls, hell will be unleashed." Sony Pictures has finally released the first trailer for the adaptation of Stephen King's book series, The Dark Tower. Directed by Danish filmmaker Nikolaj Arcel, this cinematic version of the story is more sci-fi than fantasy, about a Gunslinger roaming an Old West-like landscape in pursuit of the man in black. Idris Elba stars as Roland Deschain, with Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black. The cast includes Abbey Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, Fran Kranz, Tom Taylor, Katheryn Winnick, Alex McGregor, Nicholas Hamilton, Claudia Kim, and Michael Barbieri. This actually looks pretty damn cool, but it also looks a bit messy, with almost too much going on. The story framed around the young kid is quite interesting. I'll definitely be seeing this film. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Nikolaj Arcel's The Dark Tower, »
