‘The Office’ Spinoff Pilot ‘The Farm’ Will Air Next Spring

28 December 2012 3:48 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

After the last few seasons of The Office saw an increasingly divided fanbase, the long-running sitcom-mockumentary will finally end next year. The spirit of the show briefly saw the possibility of carrying on with Rainn Wilson’s proposed spinoff, The Farm, which would have seen office weirdo Dwight Schrute taking the reins of his family beet farm.

For fans not yet ready to see The Office‘s fictional universe disappear, NBC unfortunately declined to purchase any episodes of The Farm beyond its pilot. However, a recent announcement indicates that the world will end up seeing just what Wilson had planned for the Schrute Farm, as the show’s pilot will be aired next year as part of the final farewell to The Office.

TV Line has confirmed that a slightly retooled version of The Farm‘s pilot ...

The Office’s Ill-Fated Dwight Spinoff Will Air Its Pilot This Season

27 December 2012 9:02 PM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

We had it on good authority that this would happen, but now it's a definite: While Rainn Wilson's Office spinoff The Farm didn't make the cut for NBC next season, the pilot will indeed air as a regular Office episode before the series wraps in the spring. "We’re not going to air exactly what it was, because it has certain aspects that were appropriate for a pilot of a new show," says Greg Daniels. "We’re going to shoot a little additional material to make it fit into the season more." »

Hannah Hart Tackles Big Life Questions On Rainn Wilson’s Soul Pancake

27 December 2012 7:21 AM, PST | Tubefilter.com | See recent Tubefilter News news »

Rainn Wilson's Soul Pancake channel recent made our radar by offering a serious look into the lives of homeless people around the country. Despite that project, Soul Pancake's focus continues to center on thought-provoking, unusual, and interesting dramedy pieces. One of the channel's main series is The Flipside, which purports to be a "narrative series where characters struggle with life's questions in both a comical and heartfelt way." Each episode unfurls a unique scenario full of oddball twists and turns, leading up to a final question which reflects on the scene. In the most recent installment of The Flipside, My Drunk Kitchen star Hannah Hart and The Big Bang Theory's John Ross Bowie explore the question, "who do you treat differently?" Hart and Bowie (who is currently working on a web series pilot for Amazon with fellow Big Bang Theory cast member Kevin Sussman) aren't the first notables to appear on The Flipside. »

Dwight Schrute Spin-Off The Farm to Air as Modified Office Episode

27 December 2012 5:36 AM, PST | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Rainn Wilson fans were bummed when NBC decided not to pick up his Dwight Schrute Office spin-off, The Farm this year. I have to imagine it was a good call however, as it didn't sound like a terribly good premise, but I would still be curious to see how it would go. Well, now we'll [...] »

'The Office' failed spinoff pilot will air as modified 'Office' episode in 2013

26 December 2012 4:35 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Plans for a spinoff of "The Office" centered on Rainn Wilson's Dwight Schrute were derailed earlier this year, but "Office" boss Greg Daniels has confirmed that a modified version of the spinoff pilot will air before "The Office" closes for good in 2013.

In a brief interview with TVLine, Daniels reveals some tweaks will be made to the busted pilot to adjust for the fact that the spinoff isn't moving forward.

"We're not going to air exactly what it was, because it has certain aspects that were appropriate for a pilot of a new show," Daniels tells the site. "We're going to shoot a little additional material to make it fit into the season more."

And since Wilson won't be departing for a series of his own, Daniels hints that it will likely mean a happier ending for Dwight and longtime love interest Angela when "The Office" airs its series finale in the spring. »

Rainn Wilson’s Soul Pancake Gets Serious In ‘Stories From The Street’

17 December 2012 4:13 PM, PST | Tubefilter.com | See recent Tubefilter News news »

Sometimes, Rainn Wilson is funny. Sometimes, he's quirky. His Soul Pancake channel is an outlet that allows him to be both of those things. In a new series, however, Wilson isn't funny or quirky, but instead conveys a heartfelt sentiment. The series is called Stories From The Street, and it showcases brief featurettes related to America's homeless. Stories From The Street is filmed in partial black and white with a high-quality camera, giving the series a certain artsy quality. In each episode, a homeless person tells his or her story, hitting the audience right in the feels with their tales of poverty, loss, or just plain bad luck. Check out the first episode (of the four already released), featuring a street performer named Dre: Wilson isn't the first celebrity to tackle homelessness on YouTube. Earlier this year, Kobe Bryant launched Mission, a series on TakePartTV that also attempted to showcase »

Rainn Wilson Talks ‘The Office’ Ending & Defunct Spin-Off Series ‘The Farm’

17 December 2012 7:32 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

After hearing that the proposed spin-off of The Office (titled The Farm) would not be picked up by NBC, longtime fans of the show quickly realized that the quirky and memorable characters of the hit series would be making their last appearances in The Office season 9, which will conclude early next year. Even with the knowledge that this will be the last hoorah for the Dunder Mifflin crew, one question remained: How will the beloved series end?

The rumor mill has been churning for months now. We’ve heard that the identities of the documentary crew filming the characters would be revealed by the end, and that Dwight Schrute’s crazy family on The Farm would also be introduced at some point during season 9. Fortunately, Dwight Schrute himself (Rainn Wilson) confirmed these rumors recently, and shared a ...

Social media has become an added medium of coverage to all news genres, including sports, politics and entertainment. We’re bringing you a social media round-up of interesting and entertaining items making film headlines in the social sphere.

If anyone could recreate Ivan Reitman’s Ghostbusters on stage in a live script read, it seems obvious that it would have been his son Jason Reitman. The young director organized a live read of the 1984 science-fiction comedy film at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art last night, following weeks of stirring excitement in the social sphere, by reaching out to cast potential actors and actresses on Twitter.

Reitman ended up pulling together a star-studded ensemble, led by Seth Rogen, Jack Black and Rainn Wilson. Rogen played Peter Venkman (originally by Bill Murray), Black as Ray Stantz (originally by Dan Aykroyd) and Wilson as Egon Spengler (originally by Harold Ramis). Other »

'Ghosbusters' Live Read: Rogen, Black, and Wilson Cross Streams

14 December 2012 7:30 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

As someone who observes the film industry from a journalistic standpoint more so than a fan these days, it's easy to get jaded and cynical about all of Hollywood, full of overpaid actors with too-fragile egos, studios churning out quantity over quality, making movies to win awards, award season, etc. Thankfully there are ways to drown out that noise with little reminders of why movies and a lot of the people who make them are awesome. Case in point, Oscar-nominated director Jason Reitman's innovative and wholly entertaining project Live Read, which brings together a group of known and working actors to read live a script from a beloved or classic film in front of an audience.

Thursday night's performance was a read of the 1984 classic "Ghostbusters," directed by Reitman's father Ivan and the featured players were: Seth Rogen as Peter Venkman, the role originated by Bill Muray; Jack Black as Ray Stantz, »

Seth Rogen, Rainn Wilson, Jack Black to Star in Ghostbusters for a Night

12 December 2012 1:00 PM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

The long-anticipated return of the Ghostbusters is finally happening, although only for one night and in one theater (Lacma). It will be the movie performed at tomorrow’s installment of Jason Reitman’s monthly Live Read series. It’s a special one for Reitman, because his father, Ivan Reitman, directed the original. So who will play the busters, buster? Rainn Wilson will read for Egon, Jack Black is in as Ray, and in the Venkman role … Seth Rogen. Yep, the same Seth Rogen who was rumored years ago to be attached to star in Ghostbusters 3 and who later called a reboot a “terrible idea.” Other notable readers include Kristen Bell in the Dana Barrett role and Parenthood’s Mae Whitman as the receptionist Janine Melnitz. The show is sold out; however, there will be a standby line. See you there. »
