Our weekly round-up of all the big news stories from the world of movie superheroes…
Having made way for Disney's marketing blitz on The Avengers these past couple of months, Warner Bros. stepped up the promotional campaign for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises in a big way this week, flooding the world wide web with a host of Bat-related goodies. It began with a new theatrical poster, and while this left some fans underwhelmed, the studio more than made amends over the next few days, starting with six character posters showcasing Batman (Christian Bale), Bane (Tom Hardy) and Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway), along with a 'secret' Catwoman design that was discovered tucked away on the official website. Of course, this was just the beginning, and soon we had two new TV spots consisting of snippets of previously unseen footage, in addition to a whole raft of images featuring Bruce Wayne / Batman, »

The Warners Bros. and DC Comics collaboration, an adaptation of Frank Miller's popular 1986 graphic novel series, will be released as two movies on DVD later this year.
Weller will take on the lead role of Batman/Bruce Wayne, while Winter will play Carrie Kelly, the brand new Robin.
McKean will voice Dr. Wolper and Prison Break's Williams will double up as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, according to The Hollywood Reporter. »

Marvel may have enjoyed more success than DC when it comes to live-action adaptations (well, outside of Christopher Nolan's Batman saga, at least), but in terms of animation even the most hardened of Marvel fans would have to admit that DC Comics has the edge. With their direct-to-video DC Universe Animated Original Movies line (now rebranded as DC Comics Premiere Movies), Warner Bros. has adapted some of the most acclaimed comic book titles from the DC Universe and now they're turning their their attention to one of the all-time greats in Frank Miller's epic tale, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, for what is sure to be a hotly anticipated two-part animated adaptation.
As revealed by Heat Vision today, Peter Weller (RoboCop) has been brought in to voice Bruce Wayne / Batman in The Dark Knight Returns, leading a cast that includes Ariel Winter (Modern Family) as Carrie Kelley / Robin, »

Published in 1986, Frank Miller's graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns had a profound impact on the current pop culture take on The Batman. Released at a time when comic books weren't considered capable of rising above juvenile status, Tdkr showed us a grim, stark future for a 55-year-old Bruce Wayne. Long since retired from being the Batman, Bruce decides to put on his cape and cowl again to battle a new breed of Gotham City criminal. That sets the stage for Batman's final confrontations with The Joker, Two-Face and a fight-to-the-death street brawl with none other than the Man of Steel, Superman.
Warner Bros. Animation had already announced plans to adapt Miller's The Dark Knight Returns into a direct-to-video animated movie. Today we learned who would provide the voices for some of the show's cast members.

Frank Miller's badass 1986 Batman comic The Dark Knight Returns is getting an animated adaptation, and today we get our first look at it from a series of photos that have been released. Warner Bros. has also announced the impressive voice cast for the film. I hope this turns out being a lot better than the Batman: Year One animated movie they made.
Peter Weller (Robocop) will be taking on the role Batman/Bruce Wayne! Weller is crazy, and he's got a great voice for this character! The cast also includes Ariel Winter (Modern Family) as Robin. David Selby (original Dark Shadows soap opera), Wade Williams (Prison Break) as Harvey Dent/Two-Face; and Michael McKean as Dr. Wolper, the psychiatrist who releases the Joker from the insane asylum.
The movie is being directed by Jay Oliva, who was the storyboard artist for Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel, »

We’ve got some big Batman news to share today, but oddly enough it doesn’t involve the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises. Instead, Warner Bros. has announced who will be providing the voice acting for the upcoming two-film adaptation of Frank Miller’s classic The Dark Knight Returns – an animated feature based on one of the landmark Batman story arcs. It’s a star-studded cast that should make Bat-Fans happy. Headlining the project is none other than Robocop himself, Peter Weller, who is set to provide the voice for Bruce Wayne/Batman. He will be joined by Modern Family’s Ariel Winter, who will perform as Robin according to THR. Also joining the cast are David Selby, Wade Williams (Harvey Dent/Two-face) and Michael McKean (Dr. Wolper). The...

The Hollywood Reporter have revealed that none other than Robocop’s Peter Weller will be the voice behind old man Batman in the DC Animated adaptation of Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns”. Not only that but the release will come in two parts (no, I’m not sure why either), the first arriving in the fall and the second in early 2013.
The 15th release in the DC animated line, which so far has been a mixture of great and middling adaptations of classic DC comics stories, also features the voice work of Ariel Winter (Modern Family) as Robin, Wade Williams (Prison Break) as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, and Michael McKean as the psychiatrist Dr. Wolper.
There are also a handful of images released, all showing a distinctly un-Dark Knight Return looking sheen but some of the designs seem pretty faithful to the seminal comic book series nonetheless.
This project really is a tough one. »

Last year, Warner Premiere released an animated adaptation of Frank Miller's popular graphic novel, Batman: Year One. However, the popularity of that book pales in comparison to one of the most influential comics of all-time, The Dark Knight Returns. Along with Watchmen, Returns was a major deconstruction of the superhero genre, and pushed it into a more violent and gritty direction. Miller's take on the Batman universe showed Dark Knight as more of a fascist than a hero (you can skip Miller's atrocious sequel series, The Dark Knight Strikes Again). Although Christopher Nolan has eschewed a comic-book tone with his Batman movies, he has retained the themes of Miller's 1986 comic. Today, THR reports that Wp is moving forward with an animated adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns, and that they will split the feature into two-parts. Hit the jump for more including the film's voice cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, »

Yes, I said movies. D.C. and Warner Brothers Premiere are adapting Frank Miller’s seminal Batman tale, “The Dark Knight Returns” into an animated movie, and instead of cramming the dense, 4-issue tome into one movie (as they are wont to do), the tale will instead be split into a two-parter, with Part 1 scheduled for this Fall and Part 2 in 2013. We also now have the first casting for the film, with “Robocop’s” Peter Weller scheduled to voice an aging Bruce Wayne/Batman, and “Modern Family’s” Ariel Winter as the new Robin, this time envisioned as a spunky young girl name Carrie. Besides those two, the cast will include David Selby, “Prison Break’s” Wade Williams as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, and Michael McKean as Dr. Wolper, the psychiatrist who releases a “reformed” Joker from Arkham Asylum, only to see the villain, as expected, return to his killing ways. »

Batman and RoboCop aren't the strangest bed fellows imaginable — Darren Aronofsky was attached to reboot both properties at different points in time, for example, and the two have crossed over in numerous instances of fan fiction, some more family-friendly than others.
Now, the two are intersecting in the biggest way to date: Peter Weller, the original Alex Murphy, is adding Bruce Wayne to his list of iconic characters.
