WWE SummerSlam 2017 Predictions

18 August 2017 2:15 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Liam Hoofe predicts the results of this Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam event…

WWE SummerSlam – the biggest party of the Summer and the WWE’s second biggest PPV of the year – comes to us live this weekend from Brooklyn, NY. The show, which has one seriously stacked card, is expected to run for over 6 hours and features some of the year’s most intriguing match-ups, including arguably the biggest main event of 2017 so far.

Here are my predictions for this Sunday’s show.

Pre-Show: Neville Vs Akira Tozawa (Cruiserweight Title)

This week’s go home shows were surprising, to say the least. One of the biggest surprises was Neville dropping his Cruiserweight title to Akira Tozawa on Raw. While the decision to do it on an episode of Raw was baffling, if they have done it to get the rematch out of the way quickly and they move Neville up the card, »

Ranking All 17 Money in the Bank Cash-Ins From Worst to Best

16 June 2017 9:36 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Liam Hoofe takes a look at all 17 previous Money in the Bank cash-ins and ranks them from worst to best…

This Sunday night the WWE will crown their 18th Mr. Money in the Bank. Since the debut of the Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 21, the bout has given us 17 victors, 15 of which have gone on to win world titles- a good omen for whoever walks away the winner this Sunday night.

Ever since the first cash-in at New Year’s Revolution 2006, the WWE have tried to surprise fans and come up with different and innovative ways to deploy the gimmick, the majority of which have been successful.

Not all cash-ins are created equal however and some of them have not quite worked out as planned. With that in mind, let’s take a look back at each Money in the Bank cash in and rank them, »

WWE Backlash: The Five Best Matches in the Event’s History

19 May 2017 10:15 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

In preparation for this Sunday’s event, Liam Hoofe takes a look back at the best matches in the history of WWE Backlash

The return of WWE Backlash last year was met with an enthusiastic response from the WWE Universe, and with good reason. The PPV, which traditionally followed on from WrestleMania, has given us some great shows since its birth in 1999. The PPV itself would often be a better wrestling event than WrestleMania in fact, with it effectively being a re-run of the card with all of the pomp and spectacle removed.

Needless to say, the show has given us many great matches and moments over the years as well. So to get you warmed up for this Sunday’s upcoming event, here is a look back at some of the best matches from the PPV’s history, and no, Shawn Michaels and God Vs The McMahons didn’t make the list. »

Five Terrible Superstar-Inspired Gimmick Matches

28 April 2017 8:10 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Liam Hoofe takes a look at some of the worst superstar inspired gimmick matches in wrestling history…

This Sunday Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt will square off in the first-ever ‘House of Horrors’ match at Payback. What exactly that consists of remains unknown at this point in time, but optimism is far from high among the WWE fanbase.

The superstar-inspired match gimmick is a well-worn trope in the WWE, often used to end a feud that has run out of fresh ideas, or to try and make a superstar seem more interesting in some way. The House of Horrors match feels like a mix of both.

While some have been fairly successful – like the Casket Match, for example – the majority have been colossal failures. So to prepare for Sunday’s upcoming match, here is a look at some of the worst superstar inspired gimmick matches in wrestling history…

Braun Strowman Suplexes The Big Show off Top Rope and Destroys the Ring

18 April 2017 9:30 AM, PDT | | See recent news »

I don’t care who you are or what kind of television programming you like, you have to watch this.  You just have to.  P.S. I don’t care how fake you think professional wrestling is.   There is nothing fake about how insane this moment was.   If I’m picking a number one highlight in all of sports so far this year, it’s this clip of Braun Strowman suplexing The Big Show off of the top rope on Raw last night. For the record The Big Show is seven feet tall is weighs nearly 400 lbs.   We all know how strong Braun Strowman

Post-Wrestlemania 33 feuds revealed? Big WWE star retiring next year?

9 March 2017 11:04 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

After his clean loss at WWE Fastlane to The Big Show earlier this week, following months of ineffectual booking, people are starting to wonder whether someone’s got it in for Rusev backstage. It’s just the latest rumour in his and Lana’s WWE career. Back in 2015, the Ravishing Russian reportedly brought heat on the couple backstage when their real-life engagement went public – while they were involved in a love triangle storyline with Dolph Ziggler. Then she had a badly received Twitter bust-up with Paige.

Rusev is also no stranger to honest remarks on Twitter. He’s gently poked fun at WWE booking decisions in the past – like the amount of matches Chris Jericho and Roman Reigns had earlier this year, and, most recently, wishing Jack Swagger well after the All-American American requested his WWE release. There’s a rumour that tweet is behind Rusev’s Fastlane loss.

WWE edit out ‘Roman Reigns sucks’ chants from Raw, backstage heat on WWE star?

8 March 2017 11:49 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

One of my big problems with WWE Raw these days is that the matches don’t feel like they have stakes. And no, ice cream blueprints don’t count.

So we have to look to wrestling’s lively and innovative independent scene, specifically the promotion WrestlePro – where you can see former WWE star Ryback take on Ring of Honor’s Colt Cabana in a Cm Punk action figure on a pole match.

Thursday, March 30th come to @WrestlePro at the Hyatt at 8:30 pm to see Ryback vs @ColtCabana in a Cm Punk action figure on a pole match!

— The Big Guy (@Ryback22) March 7, 2017

Cabana has been friends with Punk since when they broke into the business together, while Ryback found himself a recurring subject in the Straightedge Superstar’s shoot Art of Wrestling podcast. There better be a ‘dumb as f***’ chant’ at that show. »

Wrestlemania 33 match back on? Matt & Jeff Hardy still going to WWE!?

7 March 2017 9:40 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Aj Lee and Paige are currently being recreated for the screen with Rock ‘The Dwayne’ Johnson’s new movie Fighting With My Family. The two, of course, had a memorable frenemy relationship when they were both in WWE, and one fan asked if they still keep in touch:

Yessss. We mostly talk about make up, periods and when’s the next time we will post underwear selfies… @AJBrooks #freaksandgeeks

Paige (@RealPaigeWWE) March 4, 2017

@RealPaigeWWE Tuesday. We agreed the next time is Tuesday.

— Aj Mendez Brooks (@AJBrooks) March 4, 2017

Paige (@RealPaigeWWE) March 4, 2017

Of course, they’re just being silly together. They won’t actually post any underwear selfies today. I’ll just make sure…

[the entire duration of Summerslam 2016 later]

One WWE tease that actually might be happening, however, is Matt and Jeff Hardy returning to the company.

This has become a rather confusing story. The Hardy »

Wrestlemania 33 match “probably” cancelled, ex-World Champion quits WWE…

2 March 2017 9:10 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Back in 2011, when Cm Punk was the coolest thing on the planet, he demanded WWE bring back their old school ice cream bars as part of his kayfabe contract negotiations. The gimmick even ended with its own t-shirt.

The New Day have since taken this ice cream task upon themselves, but their quest took a dark turn yesterday: bringing out possibly the most horrifying piece of WWE merchandise this side of Daniel Bryan’s beard hat.

The sickeningly green colour, the way they’re all vacantly smiling despite their slowly melting faces – this is a nightmare printed to t-shirt. Perhaps it’s all a clever ‘I Scream’ pun on ‘ice cream’. But that’s no excuse for bringing such horror into this world.

The main news this week has been various wrestlers leaving Tna Impact Wrestling. Not to be outdone, WWE now have one too.

Backstage heat on Tna star, Big WWE Wrestlemania 33 match cancelled?

24 February 2017 12:31 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Ever since his racist comments were leaked as part of the Gawker sex tape lawsuit in 2015, Hulk Hogan has mostly vanished from WWE. His Hall of Fame profile has been removed from their website, you can’t find any Hulkster merchandise on their shop, and his WWE contract was terminated.

Well, call of the search, guys. I’ve found him.

In Holland.

The Real American’s latest appearance is in a commercial for Dutch insurance company Centraal Beheer, where he stops a thief from stealing a woman’s handbag. He then delivers a series of very well-protected wrestling moves: a tombstone piledriver, a leg drop, a flurry of fists and a splash off the top of a gate – none of them ever connecting with the villain. Way to expose the business, Hulk.

The concept is that the insurance company can provide actual protection from theft, rather than the pretend version Hulkster offers. »

Fantasy Fridays: Scully & Mfr Cast Masters Of The Universe!!

10 February 2017 11:08 AM, PST | | See recent LRM Online news »

We'd like to forget all about the last attempt at a live-action Masters of The Universe movie. Sorry, Dolph! Great hair, though.

Welcome back to another edition of Fantasy Fridays, where two real-life best friends (Jeremy Scully and I, Mario-Francisco Robles) get together to cast/pitch our dream movies.

In the past, we've tackled everything from The Batman to the Universal Monsters.

This week, we turn our attention towards the long-gestating cinematic reboot of Masters of The Universe. Jeremy and I grew up on the classic 80s cartoon, and I had a ton of the old action figures. Yet even we knew, as children, that the 1987 movie starring Dolph Lundgren was crap. That's why we'd like to put our own spin on what the reboot should look/feel like.

Over the years, many filmmakers and various studios have tried and failed to get a Masters of The Universe movie off of the ground. »

WWE Monday Night Raw In Person Reaction 2/6/2017

7 February 2017 12:00 AM, PST | | See recent LRM Online news »

Portland, Oregon is a city rich in history when it comes to professional wrestling. Starting with the territory owned by Don Owens, it saw the rise of performers like Billy Jack Haynes, Jimmy Snuka, and the legendary “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. Today, the big dog in town of course is the WWE. Tonight at the Moda Center, the WWE held Monday Night Raw and I had the pleasure of attending the show live.

WWE Camera Crew at work

This was not the first Monday Night Raw I’ve ever attended. That distinction belongs to the episode that played on August 27th, 2001 at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Time flies when you’re having fun and to think that close to sixteen years have passed since I last attended an episode of Raw blows my mind. (I did attend the WWE Pay per View The Bash in 2009 at Arco Arena in Sacramento, »

Predicting the WrestleMania 33 card after the Royal Rumble

30 January 2017 4:36 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Liam Hoofe predicts the WrestleMania 33 card following the Royal Rumble

Well, the Royal Rumble 2017 is in the history books, and while the result was a divisive one, the show itself was great and we saw several Mania feuds started on the night.

With WrestleMania just 9 weeks away the card is starting to take shape. Some things still remain uncertain, and it does look as though some people may not get the place on the card they deserve, if they get one at all, but it is still shaping up to be a jam packed WrestleMania.

Here are my predictions for the main card at WrestleMania 33:

Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal

A WrestleMania tradition these days, the fourth Andre the Giant Battle Royal is a dead cert to be on this year’s WrestleMania Card. While winning the match has not really been that much of a boost for the previous winners, »

Fantasy Fridays: Scully & Mfr Cast The Universal Monsters (Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolf Man, More!)

27 January 2017 10:30 AM, PST | | See recent LRM Online news »

Welcome back to another edition of Fantasy Fridays, where two real-life best friends get to play studio execs and cast talent for upcoming projects. We sort of take the same tact as the old Wizard Magazine features where we choose our dream picks for coveted roles without necessarily being tied down to realistic options.

With the case of Universal's upcoming Cinematic Universe of Classic Monsters, we thankfully have a very wide palette to choose from since the studio has already secured some surprisingly high-profile talent. So that actually takes some of the "pie in the sky/fantasy" nature out of our picks, since it seems like they're able to get who ever they want to appear in these films.

So far, we've got The Mummy with stars like Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe. Then there's Johnny Depp, who's signed on for The Invisible Man. The sky's the limit for these monster flicks, »
