David S. Goyer to Rewrite 'Fantastic Voyage' for Producer James Cameron

2 May 2014 7:29 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Writer/Director David S. Goyer has joined James Cameron's upcoming sci-fi reboot Fantastic Voyage. He will be writing a new treatment for the film. The original adventure starred Stephen Boyd and Raquel Welch with Richard Fleischer directing.

The story centers on a team of scientists who are shrunken and board a miniature submarine that is designed to enter the human bloodstream. They go on a mission into the body of a scientist who is suffering from a blood clot. Set during the Cold War, the patient is a defector who goes into a coma after being shot in an assassination attempt.

This version will utilize the 3D technology that James Cameron created for Avatar. The project had been quiet since 2011, but David S. Goyer is said to have kick-started the studio's excitement about the project, with hopes for an event-sized tentpole picture that could spawn a franchise.

Uncharted Gets Horrible Bosses Director Seth Gordon

4 February 2014 5:07 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

After years of languishing in development hell, it looks like Sony Pictures is getting their video game adaptation Uncharted back on the right track, with Seth Gordon now in negotiations to direct. The studio hopes to get production started sometime this year.

The most recent draft of the screenplay was written by David Guggenheim, which the studio liked so much they brought him on board to write the action sequel Bad Boys 3 in December. The script had previously been worked on by Cormac Wibberley, Marianne Wibberley, Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.

David O. Russell was once attached to direct with Mark Wahlberg set to star as Nathan Drake, but it fell apart when the director departed the project in 2011. Later that year, Neil Burger was also in talks to direct, but the project never moved forward.
