The Post Review

Author: Stefan Pape

It was only two years ago that Spotlight won Best Picture at the Academy Awards, a film about journalists searching for the truth in the face of adversity. Now, it’s a territory that Steven Spielberg has delved into himself, to make an intelligent, entertaining drama that is so gloriously cinematic and unrelentingly fast-paced. It’s a bit like Spotlight, just played on fast forward.

Meryl Streep plays Kay Graham, the first female newspaper publisher, who runs the Washington Post, finding herself unwittingly caught up in a battle between the truth, and the Government. Her enterprising, stubborn editor Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks), along with his team of diligent reporters, have somehow got their hands on the Pentagon Papers, a revealing document that unravels corruption and lies concerning politicians and the military – going back as far as The White House. The New York Times have the story too,

Movie Review – The Post (2017)

The Post, 2017.

Directed by Steven Spielberg.

Starring Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenkirk, Tracy Letts, Bradley Whitford, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Alison Brie and Matthew Rhys.

Synopsis:

In the early 70s, the Washington Post discovers an extensive cover-up spanning four Us Presidents. The decision to publish what became known as The Pentagon Papers puts it, especially its publisher and editor, on a collision course with the government.

We’ve seen Washington Post Editor Ben Bradlee before, but played by a gruff Jason Robards in All The President’s Men (1976). There’s no mention in Steven Spielberg’s The Post of either Bob Woodward or Carl Bernstein – at least by name – but by the end of the film we’re in no doubt that one of the many hats worn by the film is that of prequel. To Watergate. And it’s all laced with the delicious irony of

The West Wing: NBC Cast to Reunite to Read All the President's Men Screenplay

While The West Wing TV show ended in 2006, after seven seasons on NBC, the cast still reunites here and there. Sometimes for industry events, or on each other's shows, and other times for more political reasons that would do President Jed Bartlet (Martin Sheen) and their alter egos in his administration proud. This is one of those times. West Wing vets Bradley Whitford (Josh Lyman), Joshua Malina (Will Bailey), Richard Schiff (Toby Ziegler), and Ed Begley, Jr, (who guest starred in season two on NBC as Senator Seth Gillette), are doing a free reading of William Goldman's screenplay for All the President's Men. The 1976 feature film was based on 1974 non-fiction Watergate scandal account by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein and starred Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman in those

The Post European Premiere Interviews: Tom Hanks and more on Spielberg’s timely new film

Author: Jon Lyus

We present our red carpet interviews from the European Premiere of Steven Spielberg’s The Post, held at the Odeon Leicester Square on the 10th of January, 2018. It is the first high profile event of the 2018 movie calendar, and a new Spielberg film in cinemas is always something to take note of.

The film stars Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Sarah Paulson, Bradley Whitford, Alison Brie, Carrie Coon, Bob Odenkirk and many more. It tells the true story of the uneasy alliance between the owners and journalists of The Washington Post and The New York Times as they sought to uncover the true nature of the United States government’s involvement in Vietnam.

Spielberg has assembled a fine cast for this timely film, and it was a pleasure to attend the premiere this evening. Hanks, in particular, was in fine form, careening effortlessly from outlandish (and fictional) tales

Starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks and directed by Steven Spielberg, The Post has the kind of pedigree most films would die for. Which is why we were so surprised when this prestige drama chronicling the real-life events around The Washington Post's decision to publish the Pentagon Papers in the early 1970s was shut out of the Golden Globes after receiving six nominations. However, given the timeliness of the film's story, we can't help but expect that the Oscar voters will feel differently about the film.

We had a chance recently to sit down with members of the amazingly talented cast including Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenkirk, Bradley Whitford, and Tracy Letts to discuss what makes this film so timely, and of course,

Be honest: who saw Get Out coming? Its trailer promised, on the surface, the ingredients of a Jason Blum-backed horror, one set to explore racial tension. It was interesting, sure, and Blumhouse has fuelled impressive talent and films in the past (The Gift and Whiplash instantly spring to mind). But still: Get Out not only became a monster hit, it also quickly became something of a sensation. And deservedly so.

It’s also the film that’s just pipped Blade Runner 2049 to the top of our writers’ annual film of the year poll. The

For the other locations, there weren’t sets built, but there was a complex where we co-opted spaces to create a few sets, like the detective office, the operating room. ‘Get Out’ to Be Honored by Producers Guild With Stanley Kramer Award
Jordan Peele’s horror-comedy “Get Out” will receive the Producers Guild of America’s 2018 Stanley Kramer Award.

The prize will be presented on Jan. 20 at the 29th Annual Producers Guild Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The Stanley Kramer Award was established in 2002 to honor a production, producer, or other individuals whose contribution illuminates and raises public awareness of important social issues.

Producers Guild Awards Chairs Donald De Line and Amy Pascal said, “The electrifying response to ‘Get Out’ demonstrates that the power of motion pictures to crystallize and reflect our collective social anxieties remains stronger than ever. It’s hard to imagine two more different sensibilities approaching the problem of race in America than Stanley Kramer and Jordan Peele, but despite the different paths their stories take, their power springs from the same outrage, fearlessness, and passion.”

My 5: ‘West Wing Weekly’ Host Hrishikesh Hirway’s Top ‘West Wing’ Scenes

There is perhaps no bigger West Wing fan than Hrishikesh Hirway, who has turned his longtime love of Aaron Sorkin’s beloved political drama into the popular recap podcast, The West Wing Weekly, co-hosted by none other than Joshua Malina, who played Will Bailey on the show.

Week to week, Hirway and Malina tap into the pop culture fandom (and nostalgia) surrounding the NBC series as they rewatch and discuss episodes of the show. The pair is currently up to season four, episode nine (“Swiss Diplomacy”) of the show’s seven-season run, meaning they’ve recently passed the halfway mark of their ongoing experiment, which has proved to be wildly successful.

“Josh and I were both really surprised by the reaction the podcast got at first. We were really overwhelmed by how many other West Wing fans there are out there and how passionate they are,” Hirway tells Et, adding they dread the end of the series
