DVD Review: ABC TV Releases Including ‘Cougar Town,’ ‘Brothers and Sisters,’ More

23 August 2011 11:28 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Disney and ABC Studios are releasing waves of DVDs in the coming weeks that are designed to allow you to catch up before new episodes of your favorite shows premiere or, as is the case with two of the first titles, remember the days when they were still on the air. The most recent seasons of “Brothers & Sisters” and “Off the Map” hit stores this week, August 23rd, 2011, followed by “Cougar Town” and “Desperate Housewives” next week, August 30th, 2011.

DVD Rating: 3.0/5.0

Of the first four ABC releases, there’s a clear favorite in the HollywoodChicago.com offices, one of the most underrated comedies on TV — “Cougar Town.” The second season of the Courteney Cox comedy was the one that critics and fans of the show thought would solidify the program with a larger fan base but it didn’t quite take. The program earned enough of a following to »

16 May 2011 7:29 AM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Somewhere, the Walkers are drinking a lot of wine — as are their fans.

Last week, ABC dropped the axe on Brothers & Sisters amid reports that a shortened sixth season of the veteran family drama was being considered. In the end, budgetary issues brought the Walkers’ journey of secret siblings, partnership issues, lost love and family ties to an end.

Below, executive producer David Marshall Grant tells TVLine what he would have changed about the de facto series finale, hints at what was in store for the Walkers — another health scare for Kitty? — and reveals what it was like saying goodbye »

Brothers & Sisters: Cancelled by ABC; No Season Six

13 May 2011 7:35 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won't be on ABC's fall schedule.

Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.

The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn't last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just »

Last Night's "Brothers & Sisters:" "Fathers Unknown"

25 April 2011 8:20 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Maxsim Chernovsky called and would like his tank top and dance belt back.

If you were wondering about last night's Brothers & Sisters liveblog... our dear snicks had taken to his sickbed, all quivering and queasy, and was thus in no shape to watch and comment on last night's Walker family shenanigans.

Too bad, because he could have made serious hay with all the craziness that went down.

The show opens with Sarah breaking in a pair of Louboutins and trying to design a seating chart for her wedding. Good luck with that - in this clan you never know who is related to who at any given moment - much less who is talking to one another.

Luc comes in in a tight black tank top - which would be suitable backstage attire for Dancing with the Stars, but seems a little unlikely loungewear (even for a French artist slash underwear model. »

Brothers & Sisters Review: So Many Paternity Mysteries!

18 April 2011 6:06 AM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

The Walker family has more secrets than the CIA. On Sunday's Brothers & Sisters, Brody and Michelle contributed new paternity mysteries to the ever-evolving Walker lore.

Beau Bridges' Brody is smitten with Nora. That's so great, except on B&S, it's never that simple. Cue Justin catching Brody sweating in the kitchen. Like, really sweating.

While Brody woos Nora and invites her to join him as he manages a baseball team in Fresno, Justin’s paramedic partner hacks a computer to peep Brody’s medical records.

It turns out Brody's got a clean bill of health, but Astoundingly, Justin uncovers an even bigger secret. Brody totally lied about the possibility that he could be Sarah’s dad.

I've always liked this show and its characters, but at a certain point it gets hard to take paternity mysteries seriously. The first time, sure. The second? Eh. The Third?

Patricia Wettig Leaves Brothers & Sisters

11 January 2011 8:13 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Patricia Wettig, who's played mistress-turned-quasi-family member Holly Harper since the beginning on Brothers & Sisters, has appeared on the show for the last time.

An apparent casualty of this year's reboot, the amnesia-stricken Holly left town to join also-departed daughter Rebecca in New York at the end of this week's episode.

The door reportedly remains open for Wettig's return, but it looks like a done deal for the foreseeable future. What do you think of the move? Is it a good one for the show?

Patricia Wettig unceremoniously bid farewell to Brothers & Sisters this week.

The actress, whose husband Ken Olin (David) and daughter Roxy Olin also appeared on the show, had gained more prominence in recent seasons prior to this one.

Meanwhile, Pedro Pascal is joining the show in a potentially recurring role. He will play Zach, a homeless war vet who Justin (Dave Annable) takes under his wing. »

Brothers & Sisters giveth, and Brothers & Sisters taketh away. Let’s start with the taketh away part…

Series vet Patricia Wettig made her final appearance as Holly Harper in last night’s episode, although a B&S insider says the door is being left open for her to possibly return. In Sunday’s ep, Holly left town to join daughter Rebecca in New York.

And now onto the giveth front: Sources confirm to me exclusively that Pedro Pascal — last seen as one of Glen Childs’ flunkies on The Good Wife — is joining the show in a potentially recurring role. He’ll play Zach, »
