Katherine Heigl's 27 Dresses outfit named best movie wedding look

30 June 2009 3:18 AM, PDT | From Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news

Wedding photographs often tell the same story – the glowing, gorgeous bride in a gown to die for surrounded by bridesmaids in lesser dresses gallantly grinning through the pain. And in last year’s rom-com 27 Dresses, poor, obliging Jane Nichols (Katherine Heigl) doesn’t put up with just one nasty outfit, not two, but (there’s a clue in the title, people!) 27 atrocious dresses. There’s a Little Bo Peep one, a Gone with the Wind one and an olive-green one that James Marsden’s cynical journalist Kevin dubs “an instrument of torture”. However thankfully, when Jane finally gets to upgrade from being the perpetual bridesmaid to the blushing bride she gets to wear a stunning sleeveless V-neck dress so dazzling that it’s been voted the best movie wedding look in a new poll by Blockbuster.

Jane’s sunny ensemble worn to her beach wedding narrowly beat that worn by

Sex and the City’s costume designer Patricia Field says no to fashion cutbacks

24 June 2009 2:39 AM, PDT | From Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news

It’s now been over a year since the movie of Sex and the City burst onto big screens everywhere, causing commotion in style circles thanks to everything from its scene-stealing Vivienne Westwood wedding dress to its Eiffel Tower handbag. And let’s not forget the Love Letters of Great Men poetry book, the ‘Love’ key ring and the Apple iPhone – phew! Those fabulous fashionistas certainly know how to set trends. However much debate has raged as to whether this will once again be the case in the follow-up film, set to shoot this autumn and hit cinemas next summer. Will Carrie and co. still be dressed to the nines? Well, it depends on who you talk to. Star Sarah Jessica Parker has spoken publicly of tempering the foursome’s big spending, yet the franchise’s celebrated costume designer and stylist Patricia Field seems to have other ideas…

Can Contemporary Design Make Harris Tweed Cool Again?

15 June 2009 6:00 AM, PDT | From Fast Company | See recent Fast Company news

Sherlock Holmes's creator wore it. So did your grandfather. Can contemporary fashion and design make Harris cool again?

Spend a stormy December evening in the Outer Hebrides and you'll understand why the locals invented Harris tweed. For centuries, the inhabitants of these remote Scottish isles have handwoven the dense woolen fabric to keep out the biting North Atlantic wind and rain. Outsiders -- stuffy toffs, dusty college profs, Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle -- adopted it. By the mid-1960s, the foot-powered Hebridean looms were producing as much as 7.6 million meters of cloth every year. Then came the slump. As customers switched to lighter, more modern fabrics, mills were shuttered. By 2008, annual output had sunk to just 500,000 meters.

But on Lewis, an island of moss-coated moors and salmon streams, a startup is weaving a profitable future for the sagging sector, with a client list that ranges from design giants Ralph Lauren,

Bondage Fun Started Early For Westwood's Son

9 June 2009 6:35 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Vivienne Westwood's artist son Ben developed a love for bondage as a boy when a young pal tied him to a chair and then rushed off to have her dinner.

The photographer has become an advocate for pornographic art in his native Britain and he reveals he first dabbled with the erotic outside the block of flats (apartments), where he lived.

He explains, "I asked a girl... to tie me up and let me escape. She tied my wrists and ankles and left me outside. (She) just went for her lunch and didn't come back.

"After fending off a dog, I had to explain to one neighbour that I didn't want him to help me. Finally, though, I had to ask the girl's older sister to untie my wrists."

Sex and the City fur coat used in PETA fur protest

2 April 2009 4:29 AM, PDT | From Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news

There aren’t many things that are off limits in the crowded closets of those Sex and the City gals. From expensive Manolo Blahnik high heels to elaborate Vivienne Westwood wedding gowns, fearless fashionistas Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) wear it all, including fur. It’s typically the extrovert Samantha that dons the fur, specifically a white fur coat by New York label Furs by P.K. wearing it to New York Fashion Week. But the coat doesn’t remain white for long, soon earning itself a splattering of red paint from anti-fur protestors expressing a sentiment shared by the actress herself.

Just over a year ago Cattrall donated the two furs used in the movie to animal rights organisation People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and ever since they have been used by PETA in their protests. And

Carrie Bradshaw's Sex and the City wedding dress sells out in hours

31 March 2009 3:55 AM, PDT | From Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news

Its divided fashion critics ever since it was first unveiled in Sex and the City last year. Some think it an indulgent, over-cooked confection of sheer ugliness; others defend it as the most fairytale and princess-perfect gown they’ve ever seen. What are we talking about? None other than the Vivienne Westwood wedding dress as seen on Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) as she happily prepares for her dream wedding to Mr Big (Chris Noth). And it seems like its detractors are seriously outnumbered by its fans as the style spell cast by the dress continues to thrive…

Last December we told you how a New York designer was making a limited number of one-off replicas of the dress for an eye-watering $15,000, but now there’s no need to make do with a lookalike as the Vivienne Westwood original has gone on sale at swanky shopping site Net-a-Porter – or it

Anderson's Nipple Slip At Westwood Show

6 March 2009 5:30 PM, PST | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Pamela Anderson slipped up on the catwalk at Vivienne Westwood's Paris Fashion Week show in France on Friday - when a wardrobe malfunction left her baring a boob.

The busty mum of two was rehearsing for a runway show when her left nipple popped out of her top.

Giggling Anderson quickly covered up and carried on modelling the British designer's wares without a hitch.

A catwalk watcher tells WENN, "It was hilarious and Pam didn't didn't seem to mind a bit that everyone had seen more than they were supposed to. I guess when you've bared all for sex tapes and magazines, something like this is nothing."

Sarah Ferguson Brings Royalty to the Big Screen

4 March 2009 8:45 AM, PST | From PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news

Sarah Ferguson spent more than a decade hoping the story of Queen Victoria's early life would be made into a movie. And with Wednesday night's London premiere of The Young Victoria, starring Emily Blunt, she saw her dream come true. The duchess – who co-produced the film – walked the purple carpet with her daughters, Princess Eugenie, 18, and college student Princess Beatrice, 20, who has a non-speaking role as one of Victoria's ladies-in-waiting. Beatrice joked to reporters outside the cinema in London's West End, "If you blink you might miss me." She added that her "fantastic" day of filming was "so much fun,

Right Royal Young Victoria Premiere

3 March 2009 11:49 PM, PST | From EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news

Resplendent in all their finery, it was a very posh turnout for the premiere of The Young Victoria last night in Leicester Square. A host of British film royalty worked their way down the imperial purple carpet, as star of the film Emily Blunt majestically talked to her subjects, shimmering in diamonds and a full length silver-embroidered Vivienne Westwood gown worthy of Victoria herself.Blunt plays the titular monarch with the amiable Rupert Friend as her husband-to-be Albert as we take a look at the early years of the longest ruling monarch in British history - previously unchartered territory in films about the life of Victoria. And it was all the brainchild of Duchess Of York, Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson, who graced the premiere with her daughters, the Princesses Beatrice (who has a tiny cameo in the film) and Eugenie. Also in attendance was Jim Broadbent - who plays Victoria’s uncle,

Kate Is Ready For the Next Phase, Whatever That May Be

4 February 2009 11:30 AM, PST | From Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news

Kate Moss was out and about in London today to do some shopping at her pal Vivienne Westwood's store. Pamela Anderson is the current face of the brand, but that didn't stop Kate, who's fronting Stella McCartney's new campaign, from picking up a few items from the shop. It seems like Kate's been getting a little antsy with her life in London - on top of rumors that she might move to the Us, she's also said to have contacted a talent agent in hopes of finding film work. One thing Kate won't be doing is singing with her man Jamie's band, since his partner in The Kills recently denied rumors that she might collaborate with them like she did with Pete Doherty and Babyshambles. Even if Kate's musical career isn't going anywhere, it would be interesting to see where she lands on the big screen. To see

PETA Call On Oscar Nominees To Boycott Armani Over Fur Fuss

3 February 2009 5:25 PM, PST | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Officials at animal rights group PETA are urging Oscar nominees to turn their backs on fashion house Armani as they choose outfits for the Academy Awards - to protest the company's use of fur. PETA bosses have taken out a full-page ad in trade magazine Daily Variety, asking Oscar-bound stars not to wear Giorgio Armani's designs.

The organisation is furious with the Italian fashion king for going back on his word to stop using fur.

A spokesman for PETA tells WENN, "No designer cosies up to the red carpet crowd more than Giorgio Armani, and this year PETA is urging Oscar nominees to hang-up on him when he comes calling.

"Just a year after the designer told Time magazine, 'I spoke with the people from PETA, and they showed me some materials that convinced me not to use fur,' Armani's latest collections feature fur-trimmed jackets, fur-hemmed skirts, floral-printed fur coats, and even rabbit-fur-trimmed snowsuits for toddlers."

And PETA chiefs aren't stopping at the Variety ad. The insider adds, "We have written individually to every Oscar nominee, asking them to shun Armani on the red carpet.

"Armani uses mostly rabbit fur from French and Chinese fur farms, both of which were targets of recent undercover investigations. Footage shows rabbits crammed into filthy cages that are encrusted with urine and faeces. Workers at the farm in China pull rabbits from cages by their ears and shoot them in the head with electric stun guns while the animals kick and scream. The rabbits are then hung upside down and decapitated."

The PETA spokesman concludes, "We’ve met with Armani and his staff over the past few years and have found that they are moved more by what celebrities think than about animal suffering or protests. We hope he will soon join designers such as Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, Vivienne Westwood, and Tommy Hilfiger - who are 100 per cent fur-free."

Pamela Anderson Sees Herself As "Art"

1 February 2009 10:47 PM, PST | From icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news

Pamela Anderson sees herself as "art." The former "Baywatch" actress recently starred in a new advertising campaign for legendary British designer Vivienne Westwood, and claims the experience has changed how people view her.

She said: "Yesterday I was considered soft porn, but today I am art. I have an eclectic group of friends. I like people who can feed your soul."

Vivienne asked Pamela, 41, to appear in the campaign after the pair met at her Spring/Summer 09 show in London last September.

They immediately hit it off, and Pamela admits shooting the adverts was one of the best experiences of her life.

Sex and the City nominated for film fashion awards

16 January 2009 4:45 AM, PST | From Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news

There have been critics (punk pioneer Vivienne Westwood to name but one), there have been crazes (the wedding dress – which Westwood designed and donated to the film incidentally, the Eiffel Tower handbag and obviously the Manola Blahnik blue high heels) and now there could be a prestigious industry award as Patricia Field’s clothes from fashionista favourite Sex and the City have been nominated for an award at the Costume Designers Guild 11th annual awards.

Field (a Cdg favourite – she’s already won four for her outfits on the Sex and the City TV show) will face competition in the contemporary film category from Laura Jean Shannon and Rebecca Bentien who dressed Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and co. in summer blockbuster Iron Man; Ann Roth who worked some summer style for Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried in Mamma Mia!; Amy Westcott who got to grips with spandex for Mickey Rourke

Dame Vivienne Westwood Wants To Write Script For "Sex And The City" Film

7 January 2009 11:02 PM, PST | From icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news

English fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwood has expressed her desire to pen down the next "Sex and the City" film. Westwood provided the film's important costume - Carrie's extravagant wedding dress in the first film.

She not only designed the wedding dress in which Jessica Parker appeared in the film but also wrote a note that was used in the marriage scene. She publicly criticized stylist Patricia Field's clothes designs after the release of the film.

The 67-year-old British designer has also not only developed a plot for the second movie but written to the show's producers to ask them to use her plot for the sequel, The Independent reports.

A spokesperson for Westwood confirmed that the production company has yet to get any inputs on this from Dame. The first "Sex and the City" film was appreciated worldwide for its vast array of designer clothes and handbags.
