Leslie West was born on October 22, 1945 in New York City, New York, USA as Leslie Weinstein.

Has played guitar in recording sessions for people like Sam Kinison, Billy Joel, Bobby Keyes, Felix Cavaliere, Dion DiMucci, Joe Lynn Turner, Joe Bonamassa and Bo Diddley.
Has released eight solo albums between 1969 and 1999. The best of the lot is probably his debut called "Mountain", which subsequently his band was called after.
In the sixties he was the lead guitarist for a locally popular Long Island band, called Vagrants.
Is the lead singer/guitarist for classic rock band, Mountain, since 1969.
Most popular/important albums with Mountain include "Climbing" (1970), "Nantucket Sleighride" (1971), the live record "Twin Peaks" (1974) and "Mystic Fire" (2002).
Mountain's most famous hit, "Mississippi Queen" (1970), can be found on the soundtrack albums for Vanishing Point (1971), He's My Girl (1987), and The Expendables (2010).
Released three albums with West, Bruce, Laing between 1973 and 1974. This band included former Cream bass player Jack Bruce.
Was asked to submit a theme song for Mutant X (2001) but lost out to Louis Natale's composition.
Frequent guest on Howard Stern's radio show (has played gigs with "King Norris", the band of Stern's sideman, Fred Norris).
Attended Forest Hills High School in New York.
Had emergency leg amputation on June 19, 2011 in Mississippi to save his life. His leg had swelled and he is a diabetic.
