Richard Stanley Returns With Vacation

16 July 2009 12:41 AM, PDT | From TwitchFilm.net | See recent Twitch news

After a long fallow period it’s looking like the coming years will be busy ones for cult director Richard Stanley.  Not only is his classic Hardware finally getting a DVD release but there are ongoing rumblings that he’ll soon be shooting a film for Brian Yuzna’s Komodo Films in Indonesia and the listing for his abandoned project The Bones Of The Earth is showing it as active once again.  But before either of those, Stanley will be returning to another abandoned project, this one being the thriller Vacation - a film that was originally written with Bruce Campbell in mind to star.  It won’t be Campbell in the lead but instead you get to take your choice of Supermen.  A few sites out there are reporting this as moving ahead with Smallville‘s Tom Welling in the lead but apparently the actual lead with be Lois and Clark‘s Dean Cain.

Hardware director making a comeback with apocalyptic thriller Vacation

14 July 2009 4:56 PM, PDT | From QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news

Can you say badass? Outsider artist and director of the Pa classic, Hardware, Richard Stanley, has, according to Fangoria, picked up the reins on his long lost project Vacation. Originally set to star Bruce Campbell, Stanley has now recruited Tom Welling (of TV’s Smallville fame) to take over the lead.

Besides the casting news and a swanky new poster, we've also got this story outline:

Vacation is the story of a coke-addicted banker who travels with his stripper girlfriend to a seedy Middle Eastern resort. Their own personal problems soon pale before the disaster that strikes in the form of freak solar storms that eradicate all means of communication, leaving them stranded in an extremely hostile environment.

Personally, I've always thought that Tom Welling never made it in features because his stiff acting and baby-faced charm really only worked on TV, but maybe under the guidance of an oddball

Richard Stanley to take his Vacation—with Superman

14 July 2009 1:21 PM, PDT | From Fangoria.com | See recent Fangoria news

A couple of years ago, it was announced that Richard Stanley (pictured), director of Hardware (coming soon on DVD, as we first reported here) and Dust Devil, was planning to make his big-screen comeback with an apocalyptic thriller called Vacation, to star Bruce Campbell. Then the news well on that one went dry—but Fango hears that the project is back on track again, with a new star.

Tom Welling, who plays Clark Kent/Superman on TV’s Smallville and also starred in the remake of The Fog, is said to be taking over for Campbell in the story of a coke-addicted banker who travels with his stripper girlfriend to a seedy Middle Eastern resort. Their own personal problems soon pale before the disaster that strikes in the form of freak solar storms that eradicate all means of communication, leaving them stranded in an extremely hostile environment. Stanley wrote the screenplay with Maggie Moor,

Might Smallville Make It To Season 10?

5 July 2009 6:37 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

The debate goes on and on as to whether Smallville is going beyond the upcoming 9th season.  In fact there are many things that are up in the air as far as what we know about the show.

The few things we do know:

Tom Welling, who plays Clark Kent, has signed a 2-year contract renewal with the CW network. Allison Mack’s contract ends next year. Callum Blue & Brian Austin Green are hopping on board to play a few characters. Things have been up in the air ever since Al Gough and Miles Millar left the show to the supporting showrunners Darren Swimmer, Todd Slakin, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson.  They’ve proven themselves, more or less with season 8, despite the emptiness of the season finale.

But after having stepped up, Swimmer and Slakvin are moving on to take over Melrose Place, leaving Souders and Peterson to run the shop.

Smallville May Get Another Season

2 July 2009 9:12 AM, PDT | From TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news

This past year’s eighth season of Smallville was rumored to be the last for quite some time, and fans were ecstatic, but a little shocked when news came that The CW was close to signing the series, and its star Tom Welling for a nineth season, which will begin on Friday September 25.  But it may come as an even bigger surprise that the rumor mill is starting to spread word that Smallville might once again shock us, and get extended for a tenth season.

SciFiWire is reporting that Justin Hartley, who plays Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, has said that reports of the ninth season being the last may be premature.

“Look, they’re so busy right now, they don’t know if they’re doing one more season or eight more seasons or two more seasons,” Hartley said last week at the Saturn Awards in Burbank, Calif. “They have no idea.

Inevitable Teen Wolf Remake Still Brewing

23 June 2009 10:27 AM, PDT | From FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news

While I'm sure no one will be surprised to hear this, it seems that a remake of Teen Wolf is actually in development. Yes I'm talking about the '80s comedy that starred Michael J. Fox as a teenage werewolf, ie. the ultimate commentary on the savage and transformative throes of adolescence. According to Moviehole [1], Warner Brothers owns the rights to the original, and they're currently seeking pitches from writers who feel the need to retell the story in some way. No director or cast is currently attached. Now I know it's getting hard to keep track of all the damn remakes in development, but this isn't actually the first we've heard of a Teen Wolf remake. There were rumours [2] a few years back about Tom Welling possibly taking over the role of Scott Howard. Apparently a Teen Wolf TV series was also being contemplated at one point, but it never came to fruition.

Smallville Season 9 Casting News & Other Notes

20 June 2009 8:52 AM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

During the break between seasons a few bits are developing in regards to the cast of the upcoming 9th season of Smallville.

The latest news I’ve seen is that Brian Austin Green is coming on board the Smallville to play the role of John Corben - or you may know him better as “Metallo.”

The surprising part for me is that it’s been reported that he stepped away from being a series regular on One Tree Hill for his two-episode appearance.

If you never caught Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, then you don’t know that Green can play a serious bad-ass character.  It shocked me when he showed up in Tscc but he pulls off the regimented, focused soldier part very well in both looks and performance.

Now They're Trying to Remake 'Teen Wolf'

19 June 2009 12:02 PM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

Stop me if you've heard this one before: a cheesy but beloved 80s flick may suffer the indignity of a remake. Teen Wolf is under consideration for a new version, according to Moviehole. Before you light your torches and grab your pitchforks, though, be advised that the phrase "currently out to writers" is used, which means there is definitely no guarantee that the project will move forward. You may now breathe a sigh of (temporary) relief.

Michael J. Fox starred in Rod Daniel's 1985 original as an entirely normal high school kid who discovers he's a werewolf. Once he fully embraces his wolf-itude, he becomes a star on the basketball team and gets lucky with his dream girl. Of course, Teen Wolf must learn some lessons along the way. The low-budget movie had the sheer luck to star Fox. When the unproven TV actor broke out that summer in Back to the Future,

2009 Teen Choice Awards Nominees List in TV

15 June 2009 8:30 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

"Gossip Girl" has a big chance to walk out with multiple prizes at this year's Teen Choice Awards after getting 10 nominations, both for the series and the cast. Almost all the main actors such as Penn Badgley, Ed Westwick, Leighton Meester and Blake Lively grab one each. The CW series is one of the top scorers of the whole nominations list after "Twilight" which dominates with 12 nods.

Right behind "Gossip Girl" in terms of number is "American Idol". Scoring 7 nominations in total, the reality singing competition earns among others through its judge Simon Cowell, host Ryan Seacrest, and two recent contestants, Adam Lambert and Kris Allen. It additionally takes the nomination for Choice Tour.

Also pocketing noms are Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato who score through their Disney shows, "Hannah Montana" and "Sonny with a Chance" respectively. Miley in particular has 10 nods when accumulated with the feature movie version of "Hannah". She tweeted,

The CW Needs Photoshop Help - Featuring A Promo Image for Season 9 of ‘Smallville’

2 June 2009 6:30 AM, PDT | From The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news

As an amateur photographer, I often find it necessary to use Adobe’s Photoshop software to enhance, color correct and otherwise improve some of my photos. When used correctly, judiciously and with a little common sense, its a great tool that most of the time is incredibility useful and vastly improves whatever photo you’re working with. However, this is not one of those times. Case in point, this brand new promo image for Season 9 of the CW’s television series Smallville.

Today, the CW released this promo image to advertisers promoting Season 9, and in so doing, according to Kryptonsite, created a weirdly Photoshopped mess where Tom Welling’s (Clark Kent/Superman) has his Season 8 head on his Season 6 body and Erica Durance (Lois Lane) has her head on Kristin Kreuk’s (Lana Lang) body.

According to the site, the promo image also lists “Sam Witwer as Davis Bloome” as part of the cast,

The (D)Evolution of 'Smallville'...?

30 May 2009 9:00 PM, PDT | From CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news

As someone who has enjoyed Smallville over the years, I became acutely and pervasively aware of something this year: all those ridiculous little plot discrepancies that I ignored in previous seasons were beginning to irk me. A lot.

Why was it taking Clark so long to embrace his destiny? How come Metropolis and Smallville seemed to be separated by, oh, about 10 miles? And why was Lana continuing to show up for saccharine discussions with Clark about their doomed "relationship"—you know, the one that ended ages ago? Can't Lana just graciously ride off into the sunset once and for all, I found myself wondering aloud? The story thread kept turning up more often than Lindsay Lohan in rehab. Been there, done that. Let's move on.

Season 8 introduced other annoyances: How would Clark ever be able to hide his identity from Lois (and everyone else) when he's not even "disguised" behind

Jensen Ackles and Hugh Jackman beat Robert Pattinson in the Hot 100

25 May 2009 6:21 AM, PDT | From The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news

Jensen Ackles from TV show Supernatural has made fifth place in AfterElton's Hot 100 of 2009, a countdown of the most desirable male celebrities of television and movies.

Ackles, 31, is followed by Fantastic Four and Push actor Chris Evans at No6, Wolverine star Hugh Jackman at No8 and Spider-Man's James Franco at No10.

Twilight fans may not be happy to see Robert Pattinson at a lowly 40th position on the list, although fellow teen heart-throb Zac Efron is just outside the top 10 in 11th place. Jensen Ackles (pictured above) stars in Supernatural with Jared Padalecki (right) who comes 12th.

The countdown is topped by Neil Patrick Harris, with Torchwood star John Barrowman at No2 and fellow Torchwood actor Gareth David Lloyd at No14. Misha Collins, who is to become a series regular in Supernatural, sneaks in at No93.

Ryan Reynolds, who played sword-twirling Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is at No21, X-Men actor James Marsden,

The CW Network unveiled the schedule for its 2009-2010 season today at a presentation for advertisers, affiliates and national media in the Theater at Madison Square Garden. The announcement was made by Dawn Ostroff, President of Entertainment, The CW.

"In just three years, The CW has become TV to talk about, with culturally current, quality programming," said Ostroff. "Next fall, we will have great flow from Monday through Friday, starting with the Monday pairing of Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill, which made The CW one of the top destinations for young women this season. Tuesday night gives us a perfect match with 90210 and Melrose Place. And what could be better than our Wednesday night shows from Tyra Banks and Ashton Kutcher - the all-model lineup of America's Next Top Model and The Beautiful Life. News: Two great tastes that taste great together...

21 May 2009 7:32 AM, PDT | From doorQ.com | See recent doorQ.com news

It's like a match made in Hell.

CW has announced that the new The Vampire Diaries, about immortal brothers lusting over a human girl, with air back to back with classic genre fave Supernatural, about mortal brothers lusting over each other.

I made part of that description up.

Vampire will air Thursdays at 8Pm while Supernatural  will remain at 9Pm.

This means that super Smallville will be flying over to Friday nights. I'm not sure about the logic of that -- are Tom Welling's pecs really enough to get people to watch on Fridays -- but it does make for a dark and morose Thursday theme.

Vampire Diaries stars Paul Wesley and the always adorable Ian Somerhalder.

I have absolutely no idea if this series will be any good. Having Kevin Williamson as the series creator gives me some hope that it won't just be beautiful brooding bare-chested but

'Smallville' - Doomsday

15 May 2009 7:58 AM, PDT | From AirlockAlpha.com | See recent Airlock Alpha news

With an episode titled "Doomsday" it is hard not to have high hopes for "Smallville's" eighth season finale. From the opening episode of the season, the show has gone to move beyond the departure of Lex Luthor and plow towards an epic smack down between the Man-of-Steel and his Kryptonian nemesis, Doomsday. Fun as this season has been, those episodes have all been in vain as Clack Kent (Tom Welling) disposes of his nemesis with freak-of-the-week speed and precision that leaves you feeling oddly hollow and unfulfilled. This is not an epic-scaled battle to the death between Superman and Doomsday that was promised (or expected). Instead, "Doomsday" carries around a lot of emotional baggage and never quite settles whether it is a fight-to-the-death or an intimate character piece. It's ...

Smallville: Double Deaths in the Season Finale

12 May 2009 11:00 AM, PDT | From E! Online | See recent E! Online news

The season finale of Smallville is this Thursday, which means the much talked about deaths are upon us. The cast and crew are being very tight-lipped about who's saying goodbye to Metropolis on Thursday night, but we did try our best to get executive producer Kelly Souders to tell us who would be back next season, and she obliged...a bit. For clues as to who survives, read on... Here's what Kelly has to say on who's returning next season: Tom Welling: "We wouldn't take a step without him." Erica Durance: "Erica is the one person we can say yes to. We all know in the mythology it's Clark and Lois forever." Cassidy Freeman: [Long silence]...

The 2009 AfterElton Hot 100

After triumphing for two years in a row, Jake Gyllenhaal is not the winner of our third annual AfterElton.com Hot 100 poll (see the results for 2007 here and 2008 here). So which out man did take the top spot? If you’re the kind of person who always burns their mouth biting into that piping hot chocolate chip cookie, you can just cheat and go here to learn who came in first place.

Here at AfterElton.com, we’re thrilled to announce an out gay man topped this year’s list – especially this particular man as most of us voted for him as well. In fact, out gay men snagged nearly 20% of the spots, including the top three. To be sure, we’ve nothing against our straight male crushes, but it says something great about 2009 that there are so many out men to choose from.

'Smallville' - Injustice

9 May 2009 9:11 AM, PDT | From AirlockAlpha.com | See recent Airlock Alpha news

It's late, Clark (Tom Welling) is in the middle of an innuendo-filled conversation with Tess Mercer (Cassidy Freeman) regarding his destiny and the foretold slaying of Doomsday. In the midst of the many hints, nudges and winks to what is coming there is a distant cry: "Clark, help me." It a fantastic sequence and for his second directed episode, Welling should be proud; it's stark, gritty and in an almost horror movie-esque with the Beast Chloe (Allison Mack) is running from never appearing on screen; hearing her screams, Clark swoops in (or blurs in at the least) at the most dire moment in another of "Smallville's" firm nods to Clark's future as Superman; and after the midnight heroics, the camera pans off to the side and reveals a cadre of black clad semi-baddies watching from ...
