What’s That, Little Bluebird? ‘Enchanted’ is Getting a Sequel?

2 July 2014 6:22 PM, PDT | | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Seven years after Disney brought Amy Adams into our lives as the real life princess that we’d always dreamed could exist, they’re attempting to make magic happen again with a sequel to their 2007 hit Enchanted, according to Deadline. In that first movie, doe-eyed, full of wonder and dressed like an adorable cupcake Giselle (Adams) peeled herself away from the animated kingdom of Andalasia when a wicked queen (Susan Sarandon) banished her to plain old regular Earth for fear that she would marry her princely stepson (James Marsden) and unseat her from her throne. With Enchanted 2 now a reality, maybe that means Giselle and her true love from New York City (Patrick Dempsey) didn’t wind up happily ever after as it so tidily seemed at the end of the first film. Or Prince Edward and his equally earthly girlfriend (Idina Menzel) weren’t exactly a match either. Having »

'Enchanted' Sequel Still Kicking, Now with 'Shrek 2' Writers on Board

2 July 2014 8:51 AM, PDT | | See recent news »

It's been four years since we heard about Disney developing a sequel to their fairytale comedy Enchanted starring Oscar nominee Amy Adams. And it's been even longer since the 2007 film hit theaters, but that's not stopping Disney from keeping their hopes for Enchanted 2 high as Deadline reports a pair of writers have been hired to script the film. David N. WeissJ. David Stem are set to script the film, and with films like Are We There Yet?, Daddy Day Camp and The Smurfs in their past, that doesn't inspire much confidence. But there's a glimmer of hope as the duo also scripted Shrek 2, which is a solid sequel. Read on! It's not clear who will all be returning from the first film, but one would hope that Amy Adams is a high priority, and there probably shouldn't be a sequel without her unless it focuses on another princess. »

In Other Sequel News, 'Enchanted 2' Is in the Works

2 July 2014 8:45 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Way back in 2007, "Enchanted" filled our hearts with crazy love for Amy Adams and made some serious bank, so it's high time for Disney to try and make a sequel!

J. David Stem and David N. Weiss ("Daddy Day Camp," "Are We There Yet," "Shrek 2") will be writing the script, and Anne Fletcher ("The Guilt Trip," "27 Dresses," "Step Up") will direct. How could this go wrong?!

There's no word on whether or not Adams, who has wowed audiences with dramatic performances in "American Hustle," "Her," "The Master," among others, will reprise her role as Giselle, and, well, why would she? Her career is so crazy good that it would be silly to take a break from her dramatic work to sing for her supper in a sequel.

Meanwhile, her co-stars seem pretty busy too. Idina Menzel is busy still rocking Broadway and racking up awards, Susan Sarandon is holding it down in Hollywood, »

'G.I. Joe 3' and 'Enchanted 2' Land New Screenwriters

2 July 2014 8:09 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

A pair of sequels have found new writers, the first of which is G.I. Joe 3, which will be written by Jonathan Lemkin (Shooter) with the expectation the film will center around Dwayne Johnson's Roadblock character. G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu is not expected to return as Paramount is planning a 2016 release. Then we come to Disney, who seems to have just remembered their now seven-year-old live-action/animated hybrid Enchanted was a hit and have brought in The Smurfs and Shrek 2 screenwriters, J. David Stem and David N. Weiss, to write Enchanted 2 with Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, The Guilt Trip) attached to direct. No word on which members of the original cast, which included Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey and James Marsden, will return. Variety / Deadline »

2 July 2014 7:27 AM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

If you've been looking forward to sequels for G.I. Joe and Disney's Enchanted, then there's some good news coming your way.  Progress on the sequels are moving forward as the studios have now hired writers for each project.  Come inside for all the details and see who'll be penning the scripts!

I know, these properties have almost nothing in common, but considering they're both sequels, both of which just hired writers, I felt it better to lump them together into one article than a pair of smaller ones.  So let's get to it.

First of all, Deadline dropped the news that many Disney fans are sure to be excited about, as one of their most underrated films (according to many) is finally getting a sequel.  J. David Stem and David N. Weiss have been hired to write the script for Enchanted 2 which is expected to bring back some of the »

Enchanted Sequel is Moving Forward with The Smurfs Writers

2 July 2014 5:40 AM, PDT | | See recent Worst Previews news »

It's been seven years since Disney released its "Enchanted" film, which stars Amy Adams and grossed $340 million on a budget of $85 million. Even though a sequel was rumored almost immediately, it's only now that the studio hired writers to write the screenplay. Those writers are J. David Stem and David N. Weiss, the duo behind "The Smurfs" and "Shrek 2." Kevin Lima is not returning to direct. He'll be replaced by Anne Fletcher (The Guilt Trip, 27 Dresses). In the original film, a fairytale princess is sent to our world by an evil queen. Soon after her arrival, Princess Giselle begins to change her views on life and love after meeting a handsome lawyer. 'Enchanted 2' Still Happening, Disney Hires Writing Duo

2 July 2014 4:06 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

It's been seven years since Amy Adams first portrayed princess Giselle in Enchanted. Now Disney is finally going to work on that sequel we've all been waiting for. The studio has hired writing duo David Stem and David N. Weiss (Smurfs 2, Shrek 2, Daddy Day Camp) to pen the script to the overdue followup.

Anne Fletcher (The Guilt Trip, The Proposal) is set to direct the sequel. However, there's no word on whether Adams will reprise her role as Princess Giselle. As a matter of fact, we don't know if any of the original cast members – which include Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Timothy Spall, Idina Menzel, Rachel Covey, and Susan Sarandon – will return.

In 2007, Enchanted's worldwide gross was more than $340 million. The movie earned numerous Oscar nominations and Golden Globe nominations.

Screenwriters hired for Enchanted 2

It's been seven years since Disney wonderfully transplanted their classic animated tales to the realm of live-action with Enchanted, and while a sequel has been rumoured for a while now, it looks like we are finally getting some traction on the project with The Smurfs and Shrek 2 writers J. David Stem and David N. Weiss hired to pen the script. Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, The Guilt Trip) is at the helm for the sequel, though there is no word on whether Amy Adams will return as the first live action Disney princess, or if any of the cast, including Patrick Dempsey, James Madsen, Timothy Spall, and Susan Sarandon, will be coming back. But, considering the reception she has gotten because of Frozen, I suspect Idina Menzel will see her small role elevated for the follow up. via Deadline »

Enchanted 2 Finally Moving Forward With A New Set Of Writers

1 July 2014 9:21 PM, PDT | | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Released back in 2007, director Kevin Lima's Disney-fairytale-come-to-life Enchanted was an absolutely massive smash hit. Made for $85 million, it dominated at the U.S. box office with an eventual total of $127 million, and its global gross after being released internationally was brought to a stellar $340 million. It was only a matter of time before Disney began working on a sequel, and while there was a false start back in 2010, this time looks like it could be the real deal. According to Deadline, Enchanted 2 is finally moving forward and has brought aboard two new writers to get it closer to the finish line. Sources have told the site that J. David Stem and David N. Weiss have been tasked by Disney to craft a new story following up with the characters from the original. The two writers began their big screen careers writing the script for The Rugrats Movie back in »

Enchanted 2 Moves Forward With New Writers

1 July 2014 7:16 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

I have no qualms about admitting that I absolutely loved Enchanted. Filled with incredibly catchy musical numbers (“That’s How You Know” and “Happy Working Song” spring most to mind), hilarious characters, a remarkably self-aware script and a winningly upbeat spirit, it was one of the most plainly fun movies of 2007.

Of course, when the film came out, there was talk of a sequel, but nothing ever really came together. As a big fan of Enchanted, I thought maybe that was a good thing. After all, the story wasn’t exactly conducive to a follow-up, and I didn’t want there to be any chance that an inferior sequel could in any way diminish the spell cast by the original. In a post-Frozen world, however, it appears that there’s new interest in Enchanted 2.

Enchanted 2 Moving Forward at Disney with Shrek 2 and Smurfs Writers

1 July 2014 4:46 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

Seven years after the first film implanted "Happy Working Song" into everyone's heads, Disney is finally getting serious about Enchanted 2.  The original pic, directed by Kevin Lima, imagined what would happen if one of Disney’s gleeful and song-filled princesses made her way into present day New York City, with Amy Adams filling the lead role of Giselle.  The result was a funny, catchy, and surprisingly self-aware film that went on to gross $340 million at the worldwide box office.  Talk of a sequel surfaced soon after, but the follow-up failed to materialize. Now, with Frozen having grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide and lighting up the home video charts, Disney suddenly has renewed interest in an Enchanted sequel as it has set new screenwriters on the project.  Hit the jump for more. Per Deadline, Disney has hired J. David Stern and David N. Weiss to pen the screenplay for Enchanted 2. »
