Young Justice promo hypes special show

18 November 2010 8:17 AM, PST | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Next week the Cartoon Network will air a special one-hour show hyping their forthcoming new animated series, Young Justice. Based on DC Comics' teen superhero sidekicks of their major characters, the series won't start to air until January, which is why fans of DC 'toons like Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Justice League are looking forward to seeing how Warner Bros. Animation handles this adaptation.

Young Justice is made up of Robin, a.k.a. Dick Grayson, Batman's trusted younger partner (voiced by Jesse McCartney), Kid Flash/Wally West (Jason Spisak), Superboy/Connor Kent (Nolan North), Miss Martian/M'gann M'orzz (Danica McKellar), Aqualad/Kaldur'ahm (Khary Payton) and Artemis (Stephanie Lemelin). While they are allowed to play alongside their grown-up counterparts, the adult heroes look down on the underage vigilantes striking out on the own and without the grown-ups guidance. Ask the Flying Monkey: Are There Any Out Gay Characters on Children’s TV?

30 August 2010 8:31 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

This week: Will there be a sequel to Shelter? What makes an anti-slur word offensive? Are gay foreign films better than American ones?

Have a question about gay male entertainment? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country!)

Q: Hey Arnold, the popular 1990s TV show on Nickelodeon, is known for subtly touching on issues which most, if not all, other children's shows wouldn't touch. For example, one of the character's moms was obviously an alcoholic, and the kids' fourth-grade teacher was gay (this was confirmed by the guy who made the show, Craig Bartlett). Are there any other children's shows with gay characters, whose gayness has been officially confirmed? -- Selina, Suny Oneonta

A: You’re right that creator Craig Barlett did confirm, after-the-fact, that Robert Simmons, Arnold’s second fourth grade teacher (voiced by Frasier’s Dan Butler, an out actor), was gay. »

Captain Marvel And Black Adam Get Animated For 'Superman/Shazam!' DC Showcase Collection

6 August 2010 7:16 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

We're all big fans of DC's series of animated shorts that have accompanied their feature-length animated films lately, and since we're definitely not alone in digging the "DC Showcase" offerings, it's no surprise that all of the shorts will be collected on DVD and Blu-Ray later this year.

What is a surprise, however, is that the collection will come with a brand new, original short featuring Superman, Captain Marvel, and one of my favorite DC characters, Black Adam.

Warner Home Video's "DC Showcase Original Shorts Collection" hits shelves in November and features the previously released shorts focusing on The Spectre and Jonah Hex, as well as the upcoming Green Arrow short and the aforementioned "Superman/Shazam!" short. DC/WB has sent along a pair of screenshots from the "Superman/Shazam!" short that offer the first peek at Captain Marvel and Black Adam.

In Young Justice, being a teenager means proving yourself over and over—to peers, parents, teachers, mentors and, ultimately, to yourself. But what if you’re not just a normal teenager? What if you’re a teenage super hero? Are you ready to join the ranks of the great heroes and prove you’re worthy of the Justice League? That’s exactly what the members of Young Justice—Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis—will found out, whether they have what it takes to be a proven hero.
