Guest Actress in a Comedy: The Frontrunners and Dark Horses for 2017 Emmys

There are a lot of returning faces in the guest actress category. Look for multiple Emmy winners Christine Baranski and Laurie Metcalf to repeat in this category for their work as the mothers of leads Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki on “The Big Bang Theory” — Baranski already has four noms for the role, while Metcalf has one. Three of the four times Melissa McCarthy has hosted “SNL” has led to a nomination here, and this year she has the bonus of her impeccable Sean Spicer imitation. Elizabeth Banks has also been nominated in the category before for “Modern Family,” but she faces serious competition from other “Family” guests like Dot-Marie Jones and Jane Krakowski. Another show with great guests is “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” which had turns by Laura Dern, Rachel Dratch, Maya Rudolph and Amy Sedaris. And Carrie Fisher should lock a nod for her swan song on “Catastrophe.” Previous nominee Kristen Wiig had an entire episode »

Second Opinion – Fist Fight (2017)

3 March 2017 7:45 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Fist Fight, 2017.

Directed by Richie Keen.

Starring Charlie Day, Ice Cube, Jillian Bell, Tracy Morgan, Dean Norris, Christina Hendricks, Kumail Nanjiani, Dennis Haysbert, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Alexa Nisenson, Stephnie Weir, and Austin Zajur.

Synopsis:

When one school teacher gets the other fired, he is challenged to an after-school fight.

Fist Fight is a film difficult to write-off entirely but also rarely as hilarious as you’d hope it to be on the basis of its talented cast. The fun double act between Charlie Day and Ice Cube just about keeps it on the right side of watchable, but this is strictly a “save it for Netflix” deal unless you’re especially bored.

It’s the last day of school before summer vacation, and all Hell is breaking loose. Teachers are struggling to maintain control of their classes, and hot-headed history teacher Ron Strickland (Ice Cube) ends up lashing out at one of his misbehaving students… »

Synopsis:

When one school teacher gets the other fired, he is challenged to an after-school fight.

Fist Fight is exactly what it is billed as being, which is frankly some of the best information that could come out of a review for this over-the-top, outlandishly cartoony R-rated comedy. There actually is a knock em’ down, drag out fight between two wildly different high school teachers (Charlie Day is a lenient and meek pushover both as an English teacher and in life’s general confrontational situations, while Ice Cube is the scary, assertive, steely eyed history teacher that will chew out students with no remorse thanks to his hardened and weirdly explained out of place backstory). It’s »

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 2 Episode 11 Review: Josh Is the Man of My Dreams, Right?

20 January 2017 7:00 PM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

You ruined everything, you stupid...

Nope. I don’t think Rebecca, nor the winds, ruined anything.

When the “winds of Diablo” blew their way through West Covina on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 2 Episode 11, everyone re-evaluated their choices.

And I think everyone ended up right where they belong.

Things got a little weird during an hour that shifted the direction of the series, so let’s start talking about it!

You might say, 'Don't do it, Winds! Leave these poor people alone!' But I'm a prankster. Tee-hee-hee-heeeee. I just wanna see what will happen.

Let’s start with the winds.

I always love when a narrator takes over for an episode. It’s one of the elements I love most about Jane the Virgin - there’s just »
