Producer Harvey Weinstein Raves About Michelle Williams in "My Week with Marilyn!" Check Out My Fun Interview!

25 November 2011 9:32 AM, PST | Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news »

Call this "My Five Minutes with Harvey," that's Mr. Harvey Weinstein -- a great producer and a surprisingly good man! I interviewed the guy who changed the way we view independent movies via his Miramax banner (with brother Bob Weinstein) for his entertaining and thought-provoking film, .My Week with Marilyn..

Based on two books by Colin Clark, .My Week with Marilyn. takes a snapshot of the icon while making the 1957 film, .The Prince and the Showgirl.. The glorious Michelle Williams embodies Marilyn Monroe, Kenneth Branagh stars as Sir Laurence Olivier, and Eddie Redmayne is Colin Clark. The film is told from his perspective, but it.s Williams. who will receive all the honors for her honest portrayal of Monroe. She.s at once vulnerable and strong, petulant and pleasant. Williams deserves a Best Actress nomination, and yes, perhaps, the Oscar itself! She.s long overdue!

Robert Katz Leaving Dimension Films Prexy Post

1 November 2011 3:31 PM, PDT | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

Exclusive: Robert Katz is about to begin discussions to exit as president of Dimension Films, a job that is proving tough to fill for the long term. Katz, a well regarded exec who had been Film Department’s president of production and before that exec veep at Yari Film Group, took the job in late July following Brad Luff’s exit after less than a year. I’m told that the exit is fairly amicable and that it came down to a difference in vision between Katz and his boss, Dimension head Bob Weinstein, who has always been a challenging guy to work for. I’m not sure that Katz really had an opportunity to get on track in such a short time, but clearly the chemistry wasn’t right. Dimension last released Apollo 18, the $5 million budget “found footage” genre thriller that grossed $17.6 million domestic. »

The Halloween Franchise – The Nights He Came Home

27 October 2011 4:50 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

In Hollywood there is nothing more terrifying than an original idea. It’s a fear born from the unknown, fear that audiences won’t get it, fear that it won’t do ‘good business.’ For nervous studio executives, both the movie franchise and the remake are a reassuring comfort blanket. These are movies that already have a guaranteed audience and producers can relax in the knowledge that the same idea has made money before.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween (2007) is in the rare position of being both a franchise movie and a direct remake of John Carpenter’s 1978 classic. That Zombie’s film raked in a massive $30.6 million on its opening weekend is hardly surprising. Nor should it be surprising that the film is a mess – lacking originality, insight, and, worst of all, scares. The sequel released in 2009 is even worse.

But fans of the original have little reason to complain. »

A Creepy Ballerina Emerges in New ‘Livid’ Poster

26 October 2011 11:49 AM, PDT | Destroy the Brain | See recent Destroy the Brain news »

One of the films that entered Austin’s Fantanstic Film Fest with a lot of buzz was the follow-up film from the directors of the French splatter film Inside.  Livid, a film by Julien Maury & Alexandre Bustillo, is an entirely different type of film though.  It is one that is more interested in creepy imagery and haunted house tropes than the buckets of blood seen in their break-out hit.  You can read our early review of the film from Fantastic Fest by clicking Here.  Judging from the first poster from the film, seen below, I will say that it gives a fair preview of what to expect in the film.

Fans of the French duo won’t have to wait for the DVD and Blu-ray for the release of Livid, as news has come out that Dimension Films has acquired the film for release.  The press release as well as »

BFI Fellowship Recipients: From Bette Davis to Bernardo Bertolucci

5 October 2011 7:02 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

David Cronenberg, Ralph Fiennes to Become BFI Fellows. [Right: Bette Davis.] The list of those who have received a British Film Institute Fellowship since it was first handed out in 1983 is quite extensive. [See below.] BFI Fellows include not only Britishers, but also numerous foreigners who have somehow or other been associated with either the film world or the BFI itself, among them directors (Michelangelo Antonioni, Marcel Carné), producers (John Brabourne, David Puttnam), film executives (Harvey Weinstein, Sidney Bernstein), editors (Thelma Schoonmaker), cinematographers (Jack Cardiff), actors (from Alec Guinness to Bette Davis, from Jean Simmons to Isabelle Huppert), writers (Graham Greene), critics (Dilys Powell), and philanthropists (J. Paul Getty). There are a number of puzzling omissions, however. For instance, the following are a few British actresses who have left an indelible mark on world cinema: Anna Neagle (left out perhaps because she died in 1986), Margaret Lockwood, Julie Andrews, Julie Christie, Lynn Redgrave, and Greer Garson. »

Exclusive Interview: Wes Craven Talks Scream 4 Blu-ray, Scream 5 and More!

2 October 2011 10:47 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Directed by Master of Horror Wes Craven, Scream 4 is the latest installment in the (potentially growing) Scream series of flicks which not only reunited the director with the franchise's original trio of survivors (Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox) but also allowed the veteran director an opportunity to collaborate with a new generation of genre stars (Emma Roberts, Hayden Paniettere, Rory Culkin, Alison Brie, Erik Knudsen) as well.

Released in theaters this past April, the latest sequel featured "final girl" Sidney Prescott (Campbell) returning to her hometown of Woodsboro on the eve of the anniversary of the original "Woodsboro Massacre" - also known as the plot of 1996's Scream - for a book signing after her biography becomes a hit with readers everywhere. Always a victim of bad timing, Sidney's unaware when she arrives in town that a new Ghostface is on the loose; not only is this »

Scream 5 On The Way?

1 October 2011 6:02 AM, PDT | www.themoviebit.com | See recent TheMovieBit news »

It seems that we may not have seen the last of the Scream franchise. Series creator Wes Craven, in an interview with Movieweb, revealed "The odds are that there will be (a Scream 5). It is something that Bob Weinstein wants to do. He tends to do what he wants to do". He added: "So I am inclined to think that there will be (another sequel). Whether I will be a part of it or not? I don't know. My contract gives me the first look."If they show me something that is really wonderful? Of course I will be a part of it." Whether or not we need another instalment of the long-running horror series is up for debate. The movies have built up a dedicated following over the years, due mainly to their subversive take on the horror genre. However with Scream 4 being released to middling reviews and box office, »

Wes Craven thinks the ''odds'' are in favour of 'Scream 5' being made.
