Inside the Golden Globes 2016 After-Parties

Inside the Golden Globes 2016 After-Parties
This year’s infamous Golden Globe after-parties were colored by two unfortunate events. First, changes to the drop-off system required all partygoers (who didn’t come directly from the show) to take shuttles to the Beverly Hilton out of Century City. Many guests and celebrities were forced to endure hour-long waits on the backed-up lines, and other, less determined, revelers abandoned course completely.

On a far graver note, the celebratory night took a much different turn when guests learned of the passing of legendary musician David Bowie. At around 11 p.m., partygoers fled frantically outside to check their phones for news, entertainment greats raised their glasses in commemorative toasts and DJs at shindigs from HBO to Weinstein honored the British legend by playing mashups of his tunes.

The Variety staff was on hand to share how it all went down.

8:22 p.m. Inside the already-packed Fox party, “American Horror

Oscars 2014: Top 5 Acceptance Speeches from Lupita Nyong'o to Jared Leto

While live-blogging the Oscars you really don't get too much of a chance to take in all the acceptance speeches. I catch a few moments here and there, and I can pretty much tell when the air is being let out of the room as well as those moments where someone is really capturing the moment. What I've put together below are the five speeches where I think the winner really managed to stand-out. I also love the true excitement coupled with the words chosen in these speeches. Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave, especially, seemed to capture the room with her infectious smile as much as Jennifer Lawrence a year before, not to forget her brother, Peter, who photobombed Ellen's Twitter-breaking selfie and is clearly someone very special in Lupita's life and she in his. The only truly strange thing about these speeches is John Ridley and Steve McQueen failing
