Review: Captain Caveman and The Teen Angels – The Complete Series

  • Comicmix
In the 1960s, super-heroics were such the rage that ever era seemed to inspire a masked champion for Saturday morning fare. We had the Mighty Mightor who could been seen as an ancestor to his comedic counterpart, Captain Caveman, which also reflects the shift from dramatic fun to slapstick comedy (also showing how parents boxed in the animators).

Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels was created for Hanna-Barbera, shortly before they split to form their own outfit. It ran from 1977 through 1980 in ABC and the complete 40 episode series is now available on a three-disc set from Warner Archive. The series started off sandwiched as a part of Scooby’s All-Star Laff-a-Lympics and Scooby’s All-Stars before gaining their own thirty minute slot. Brenda, Dee Dee and Taffy, the erstwhile angels, found a caveman frozen in a block of ice and thawed him back to life. Now, Cavey and the girls

'The Big Bang Theory': Mayim Bialik and a robot lend a helping hand

What did you think of the Season 4 premiere of "The Big Bang Theory"? We think Sheldon (Emmy-winner Jim Parsons) going on a date might be the funniest thing we've seen in awhile, but we also enjoyed the "robotic manipulation" B-plot.

First off, who didn't see the robot-masturbation plot coming a mile off? We mean ... it's Wolowitz (Simon Helberg). Of course he's going to try that. That did not keep it from being hysterically funny, especially when Will Smith's "Fresh Prince" mom Vernee Watson-Johnson returned as Althea the nurse to solve Wolowitz's problem.

But the main storyline was by far the best. Sheldon and Amy Fowler (guest-star Mayim Bialik) are in talks to procreate (via petry dish, naturally), so Penny makes them go out on an exceptionally awkward date. We can't wait for Bialik to return to the show. She's slated to be in at least one more episode. We hope it's more.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: Win the Complete Fifth Season on DVD!

In The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, life changes overnight for William "Will" Smith. He's sent from the streets of Philadelphia to live with his Aunt Viv (Janet Huber-Whitten, later Daphne Maxwell Reid), a professor of Black History and Literature, and Uncle Phil (James Avery), a lawyer, in their Bel-Air mansion.

Will's mom Viola "Vy" Smith-Wilkes (Vernee Watson-Johnson) hopes that Will will learn a thing or two about how to be successful and will get a good education. Though Will's street smarts clash with his spoiled cousins, Hilary (Karyn Parsons) and Carlton (Alfonso Ribeiro), and snooty butler Geoffrey (Joseph Marcell), the Banks soon warm to their fun-loving nephew.

Youngest cousin Ashley (Tatyana Ali) loves and relies on Will's hip knowledge of music and fashion. When the Banks mansion becomes too much for him, he has friend Jaz (D.J. Jazzy Jeff) to keep him grounded.
