Mini Biography

James A. Watson Jr. was one of the most talented dramatic arts students of the 1950s/1960s at the University of Redlands, whose famous alumni of that era included singers John Raitt (male lead of "Pajama Game" on Broadway and film) and Karen Philipp (lead vocalist with Brazil 66; pilot of "Mash" as Alan Alda's first nurse love interest/fantasy, Lt. Dish).

Although his professional career has primarily found him performing strong supporting roles in films and television series (including the "Rockford Files" reunion specials in the 1990s), he was not only an extraordinary drama student at university, but also such a charismatic dancer and singer that expectations were high among his peers that Watson would become the next alumnus to carve a career in Broadway musicals.

In their last years at the university, Watson and Karen Philipp collaborated to produce, direct and star in a student musical variety show staged in a large local auditorium which was well supported by the community and attended by theatrical booking agents. This production proved an excellent way for them both to showcase their prodigious artistry.

Looking a decade younger than his years in 2008, it is a certainty that James A. Watson, like his co-star James Garner has done, will continue to grow his excellent body of work in senior characterizations that reflect his stature as a powerful screen presence and an actor who displays remarkable range and depth.
