Enough about 2011; let's look ahead to 2012. This past year was good about offering a diverse set of films that catered to many tastes, especially crowds that wanted something out of the range of standard multiplex fare. But 2012 looks like a much stronger year. We can almost always look ahead to a new year and say that there is a great batch of new films from established favorite filmmakers, movies with wonderful casts, giant event movies and promising indies. But 2012 looks like it has more of those than usual. It's going to be a good year for movie watchers. After some deliberation (which no doubt has still allowed me to overlook something for which I'll facepalm later) here is a list of ten films that I'm very excited to see in 2012, followed by a full page of discussion about a whole bunch of other movies that didn't make my personal cut »

There's a running joke in Kerry Washington's family. "This is slightly embarrassing," she confides. "As a young girl, my real dream was to be the woman in the shows at SeaWorld." So keen was she to be the trainer who tempts the dolphins and killer whales from the water to entertain the crowds, "it seemed like a real calling for me". Then life took her towards acting. "So the joke in my family is that I thought, 'Forget the whale, I'll just get up on the stage myself!'" »

I recently attended a QandA session with Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker, The Adjustment Bureau) as part of the Chicago International Film Festival. The actor, who was receiving an honor for his artistic achievements, mentioned how he felt Hollywood was lacking a leading man of color under the age of 40 and that he was hoping to fill that void. I've recognized this void for some time, but it means much more when supported by a statement from someone like Mackie. But why has Hollywood failed so miserably to groom new stars to replace aging headliners like Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Will Smith and Samuel L. Jackson? It's clear to me the void doesn't exist for lack of talented contenders. But is Mackie our best bet to fill that void? He certainly has been on fire lately, landing roles in Real Steel, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Gangster Squad, just to name a few. »

Paramount has chosen Saturday morning as the best time to debut the first poster for Eddie Murphy's A Thousand Words, a release that was perfectly timed to follow Murphy's Oscar hosting duties, but with those plans scrapped I guess any old day will do to get the buzz out there on this one. In A Thousand Words, Murphy plays Jack, a fast-talking agent whose most powerful weapon, his mouth, may prove to be his ultimate demise once the magical Bodhi tree owned by his recent client, guru/author Dr. Sinja (Cliff Curtis), begins shedding one leaf for each word Jack speaks. As it turns out, Jack only has one thousand words left before he dies. Along with Murphy and Cliff Curtis, the film co-stars Kerry Washington, Clark Duke and Allison Janney and is set to hit theaters on March 23, 2012. If you missed the trailer, I've included it just below the poster. »

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel stole the spotlight as they hit the black carpet of the 2011 GQ Men of the Year on Thursday evening, November 17. The on-and-of couple were seen arriving separately at the prize giving event that took place at Chateau Marmont, Los Angeles.
Upon his arrival, Justin looked dapper in his suit complete with a bowtie. Meanwhile, Jessica, who reportedly to have been rekindling romance with Justin, looked gorgeous in a black mini dress with stud details on her shoulders. She finished off her look with a silver miniaudiere and black heels.
Though they appeared solo on the red carpet, it was reported that Justin and Jessica were spotted packing on the Pda at the event. Some onlookers told Celebuzz that the pair were seen locking lips, hugging and canoodling during the evening.
Also stealing the attention on the black carpet, meanwhile, were "Twilight Saga" hunk Kellan Lutz »
The biggest thing in the midseason schedule ABC announced Friday (Nov. 18) -- for us, at least -- is what isn't there: The network hasn't scheduled the return of "Cougar Town" or the Shonda Rhimes-produced drama "Scandal" yet.
What it does have, though, is premiere dates for cross-dressing comedy "Work It" and the buzzed-about dramas "The River" and "Gcb," along with (shudder) "Celebrity Wife Swap." First-year comedy "Man Up!," meanwhile, will be off the schedule come January.
"Work It," whose pilot drew rather large doses of critical bile over the summer, will take over the "Man Up!" timeslot at 8:30 p.m. Et Tuesdays starting Jan. 3. Also premiering that night is "Celebrity Wife Swap," which will fill the "Dancing With the Stars" results show spot for five weeks before yielding to "The River," a creepy drama about the search for a missing explorer on the Amazon.
The 9 o'clock Tuesday spot »
ABC just announced its midseason lineup, which includes the start of new thriller The River, the return of Shark Tank and … a few missing shows.
There’s no word yet on when Shonda Rhimes’ next drama Scandal starring Kerry Washington will debut, or for that matter, when Cougar Town will return (anybody who’s a fan of Cougar Town and Community is having a bad week). Another key omission: New comedy Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23 — which is most assuredly a priority for the network, so there’s likely another round of dates coming before too long.

GQ Men of the Year 2011 Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Fallon, and Jay-z engaged in a light-hearted and gesture-filled conversation inside the magazine's award ceremony bash at the Chateau Marmont in La last night. The dapper guys mingled with the crowd and even posed for funny pictures with Justin's date Jessica Biel. On the red carpet Jay-z was asked whether he and the rest of the men of the year could take down the crew from People's Sexiest Man Alive issue starring Bradley Cooper. Jay responded, "I'll take on the whole entire cast of Parks and Recreation. I'll leave Justin to take care of Glee and Jimmy Fallon could karate-chop the rest of those guys." Jimmy followed up by saying that their one female Moty Mila Kunis could certainly hold her own, "I think Mila Kunis could take some people out if she wanted to." Fellow honoree Michael Fassbender smoked a cigar »

The casting list for Quentin Tarantino’s “Southern” “Django Unchained” has been one of the biggest developing stories in entertainment, mostly due to the against-the-grain casting, and it’s about to get even bigger and crazier now that there’s news that Sacha Baron Cohen might be joining the cast. According to MovieLine, Baron Cohen could be playing Scotty Harmony, a slave owner who buys Kerry Washington’s character Broomhilda as a “female companion.” Sacha Baron Cohen is an actor who’s “type” hasn’t been pinned down yet, such as playing the hero or bad guy it would seem. Or he’s one of those actors that don’t have a “type,” so it’ll be very interesting »

Sacha Baron Cohen is in final negotiations to take a small but pivotal role in Quentin Tarantino's next film, Django Unchained, reports Variety. He looks set to play a gambler who buys Django's enslaved wife, Broomhilda.
Tarantino's film stars Jamie Foxx in the title role of an escaped slave who becomes a bounty hunter and returns to the plantation where he once lived in order to free his wife. The movie is a paean to spaghetti westerns, though set in the deep south rather than the old west, with the title referencing the 1966 Sergio Corbucci film Django.
Variety suggests the role of the gambler, Scotty, is an important one and Tarantino has spent some time and effort to secure the right actor. If he signs on the dotted line, »
