Why Constance Zimmer, Steve Zissis Have Better Emmy Oddzzz This Year

13 June 2016 4:14 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Voting for Primetime Emmy nominations began on Monday, and Constance Wu’s chances of landing a nomination for “Fresh Off the Boat” are much better than they were a year ago. Meanwhile, some performers in first-year series have also caught a break, among them Patrick Warburton for “Crowded,” Michaela Watkins for “Casual,” Natalie Zea for “The Detour” and Constance Zimmer for “UnReal.” Their Emmy prospects are looking up because of the thing that has probably bedeviled them since the first time they endured a roll call in grade school: the alphabet. This year, the Academy has taken a step that’s akin to. »

Divine Access Review

18 May 2016 12:29 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Divine Access doesn’t hold any almighty answers to questions of existence, mainly because it doesn’t have to. Filmmaker Steven Chester Prince isn’t here to expose religion, but to investigate a flock’s mentality through the vision of one enlightened soul. In a very Don Verdean kind of way, this is a redemptive story about false prophets, and the power that holy command holds over people. It’s concerned with questions of how we choose to find meaning in the most simple, straight-forward acts of living that couldn’t Possibly be misconstrued (or so you’d think). You’ll laugh, cringe, and hopefully think a little bit, mostly about how living your life is a lot more important than worrying about what comes next. Praise be to – well – whoever!

Billy Burke stars as Jack Harriman, a southern slacker who spends his time wooing women through higher means of manipulation. »

Eva Longoria’s ‘Telenovela’ and Family Comedy ‘Crowded’ Cancelled at NBC

13 May 2016 11:57 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

NBC has cancelled Eva Longoria’s “Telenovela” after one season, plus freshman comedy “Crowded,” Variety has learned.

Telenovela” gave a behind-the-scenes look at a fictional telenovela and its star who does not speak Spanish, played by Longoria.

Telenovela” was the vehicle set to bring Longoria back to TV, following her stardom on ABC’s “Desperate Housewives.” The Latino-themed sitcom was one of the hottest projects last development season, entering a bidding war between a couple of networks, before landing at NBC with a straight-to-series 13-episode order — the only way Longoria would commit to the project.

NBC trimmed the episode order from 13 to 11, and did the same for “Superstore,” which stars America Ferrera. However, “Superstore” landed an early Season 2 renewal, after performing well — and better than “Telenovela.” Even with its star-power in Eva Longoria, “Telenovela” was also the lower rated of the two. During its winter run on Mondays, it averaged »

Film Review: ‘Divine Access’

10 May 2016 11:40 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Offering a gentle rejoinder to the dogmatic Christian entertainments that draw parishioners by the busload, “Divine Access” considers spirituality less as one true path to God than a multi-directional quest with many open doors. But while it’s refreshing to see a religious film this laid-back and nonjudgmental, actor-turned-director Steven Chester Prince has more trouble defining what his debut feature is than what it isn’t. That brings him in line Jack Harriman (Billy Burke), the reluctant prophet at the film’s center, who becomes a public-access sensation for encouraging belief, but never commits to anything in his personal life.

Actors like Patrick Warburton, Gary Cole, and Adrienne Barbeau are manna from character-actor heaven, but this neither-here-nor-there Southern indie will likely languish in VOD purgatory after its simultaneous theatrical/digital bow.

Part satire, part slice-of-life, part romance, part redemption drama, “Divine Access” moves to the relaxed rhythms of a hero »

Kirsty Capes with everything we know so far about Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events

If you’re like me, and grew up devouring volumes of Lemony Snicket’s macabre and witty series, you’ll be a little more than a bit excited about the announcement late last year that Netflix will be turning the thirteen-volumes-strong A Series of Unfortunate Events in to a show for the platform.

In case you didn’t know already, A Series of Unfortunate Events follows orphan siblings Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire as they journey to discover the truth behind their parents’ death, and the nature of a mysterious organisation only known as V.F.D. Meanwhile, their distant relative and all-round nasty fellow Count Olaf is hot on their heels, always employing ridiculous disguises and highly illegal methods in an attempt to obtain the Baudelaire fortune.

‘Silicon Valley’ Ep Alec Berg on His Crazy ‘Seinfeld’ Connection

If you don’t know Alec Berg by name, you know his work: “Silicon Valley,” “Seinfeld,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” And actually, if you know “Seinfeld” well, you do know his name. Berg went from writer to character to punchline on May 11, 1995’s “The Face Painter” episode. An actor named Mark DeCarlo played the ficticious “Alec Berg,” who had primo New York Rangers playoff tickets — something that Jerry (Seinfeld) and overzealous New Jersey Devils fan David Puddy (Patrick Warburton) took full advantage of. “I can always tell when the episode has re-aired, because I’ll get it from somebody,” the real Alec Berg told. »

Amazon’s reboot of The Tick superhero series has landed Peter Serafinowicz for the title role…

Mr Peter Serafinowicz – last seen on live-action comic book duties in James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy - has landed a superhero role to call his own.

Amazon has signed up the Darth Maul voice actor, Spy supporting star and Brian Butterfield creator to play The Tick, the dim-witter comic hero who was previously portrayed by Patrick Warburton in a Fox TV series that ran from 2001 to 2002. (He also had animated adventures before that.)

Amazon is producing a pilot episode for its own take, re-adapting the comic book character that first appeared in 1985. He was created by Ben Edlund as newsletter mascot for the New England Comics chain of shops, before spinning out into an independent comic book series.

The Tick Peter Serafinowicz casting: British actor will lead the new TV show based on the comic book series.

British actor Peter Serafinowicz has signed up to play The Tick for Amazon Studios. The planned TV series is a co-production between Amazon and Sony Pictures Television.

More on The Tick Peter Serafinowicz casting below, but first, here’s a little on the original comic book character, who first appeared in New England Comics book in 1986. The character was created by Ben Edlund, and appeared in his own comic book just two years later in 1988.

In the comic series the Tick is a wacky hero who escaped from a mental hospital and started fighting crime in the City. Not much is known about The Tick’s past because he is amnesiac. However, in one comic it is revealed that The Tick had a wife and children, but this may have been his imagination. »

Peter Serafinowicz Has Been Cast As The Tick

Deadline reports that the great Peter Serafinowicz will play our new live-action version of The Tick in Amazon's reboot. Fans were not best pleased when they found out Patrick Warburton wouldn't be returning after doing such a great job as Fox's short-lived take on the beloved character, but Serafinowicz has become quite the geek-icon in his own right so there shouldn't be too many complaints. We also have our first logline for the new show: The blue-suited Tick is recovering from a memory loss and ends up reteaming with his sidekick Arthur (Griffin Newman) to fight evil. The two are surrounded by a new host of characters that include Arthur’s sister Dot (Valorie Curry). Creator Ben Edlund will write the pilot episode of The Tick, and will also executive produce, with cinematographer Wally Pfister in talks to direct. »
