Acs awards to Touch and Anzac Girls

Touch and Anzac Girls have won key prizes at the 2014 Australian Cinematographers Society awards for South Australia and Western Australia.

Aaron Gully took the best cinema feature award for Touch, a mystery starring Leeanna Walsman, Matt Day and newcomer Onor Nottle, produced by Triptych Pictures. Julie Byrne and directed by Christopher Houghton.

The best telefeature, series, TV drama or comedy trophy went to Geoffrey Hall Acs for episode four of Screentime.s Anzac Girls. Hall also collected the Milton Ingerson award for best entry overall.

Jim Frater Acs took the dual prize for best dramatised documentary for The War That Changed Us episode 1 and for Desert War- Alamein, both produced by Electric Pictures. Andrew Ogilvie. Producer shows faith in uplifting movies

Producer Steve Jaggi is convinced audiences are hankering for films with positive, joyful themes, an antidote to the dark subjects often favoured by filmmakers.

Putting his money where his mouth is, Jaggi launched The Incubator last year through his Indefatigable Pictures banner to develop and produce life-affirming films.

The first three projects to benefit from that initiative are either completed or in post. All are from first-time filmmakers, part of Jaggi.s plan to help foster the international careers of Australian creatives.

Based on a true story, Skin Deep is the saga of a young woman who is diagnosed with terminal melanoma and meets a stranger who gives her the courage to embrace life. The screenplay is by Monica Zanetti, who had melanoma. Rosie Lourde is the producer and the director is Jonnie Leahy. Zara Zoe plays the protagonist and Zanetti portrays the stranger.

Nick Offerman ("Parks and Recreation") has joined the cast of Oliver Thompson's metaphysical drama "Welcome to Happiness" at Minutehand Pictures. Filming is currently underway in Los Angeles.

Film marks debut feature for Australian comedian Carl Barron [pictured].

Shooting has commenced on Manny Lewis.

Anthony Mir’s film marks the debut feature for Australian comedian Carl Barron, who co-wrote with Mir and stars in the film which follows a fictional stand-up comedian who finds it hard to connect to one person.

The film also stars Leanna Walsman, Roy Billing and Damien Garvey, and will feature new stand-up material from Barron whose last tour was seen by over 300,000 people in Australia and New Zealand.

Financed by Seven Productions, A-List Entertainment and Beyond Films, Manny Lewis is produced by Martin Fabinyi for Beyond Screen Production and will be released theatrically in Australia and New Zealand by StudioCanal in 2015.

Baz's creative team cleans up at Aacta Awards

The Great Gatsby dominated. Aacta.s technical and short films awards today, collecting gongs in all six craft categories for which it was nominated, plus the Aacta award for outstanding achievement in visual effects.

The co-production Top of the Lake bagged two TV trophies while Matchbox Pictures. Nowhere Boys, created by Tony Ayres, was named best children.s TV series.

The TV documentary prize went to Redesign My Brain, which explores the revolutionary new science of brain plasticity, written and directed by Paul Scott and produced by Isabel Perez and Scott for ABC TV.

Writer-director Nick Verso's The Last Time I Saw Richard, produced by John Molloy, was honoured as best short fiction film.
