‘Last Week Tonight With John Oliver’ Tackles Doping With ‘Veep’ Star Matt Walsh In Hilarious Video — Watch

7 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” tackled the issue of doping in the Olympics on Sunday by admitting that, in all likelihood, a lot of people probably don’t even care if their country’s Olympic athletes take performance-enhancing drugs.

“If we don’t really care enough to make changes, we should at the very least make our syrupy athlete promos a bit more honest,” Oliver said. Cut to a hilarious sketch with “Veep” star Matt Walsh playing the coach of an Olympic runner named Brandon Schmidt.

“I discovered him sprinting across a playground,” Walsh says. “That’s how I used to find my runners–just hanging out at playgrounds looking for the quickest kid. I can’t do that now of course.”

Going through a typical day in training, Schmidt explains his routine. “First I do cardio, then weights, then it’s just all the pills I can fit into my mouth, »

Review: After that 'Veep' finale, what happens next?

18 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

A review of tonight's Veep coming up just as soon as I'm selling a young adult fiction novel about an alternate timeline... Well, that was not what I was expecting. At all. To the point where I briefly wondered if HBO had played us all for suckers and aired the Veep series finale without telling anyone in advance. They haven't, by the way. Not only was the show renewed back in April, but I've confirmed with someone at HBO that the renewal (which came with similar orders for Game of Thrones and Silicon Valley) wasn't an elaborate ruse to keep people from realizing the show was about to end. Veep will be back next year, but with a huge difference: Selina won't be the president anymore. Nor will she go back to being the vice-president. She will be an ex-potus, for however long the series runs past next season. I »

‘Silicon Valley’: Season 3 Finale Goes Where The Series Has Never Gone Before

19 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Who saw that coming?

No, not the twist ending of “The Uptick,” “Silicon Valley’s” Season 3 finale — not exactly. Erlich’s (T.J. Miller) sneaky plan to save Pied Piper from the clutches of Gavin Belson (Matt Ross) did come out of nowhere, and even if savvy viewers were observant enough to put together the financial capabilities of Bachmanity and how it would save Richard (Thomas Middleditch) from squalor, predicting that ending would’ve been gutsy.

Why? Because Season 3 marks the happiest ending for “Silicon Valley” to date — arguably, the only happy ending. And not only that, but the decision to unite all our favorite characters under one roof trims the fat in a way the show was unwilling to do before.

Remembering the previous finales is a bit like recalling a great date that ended with, “Oh, did I forget to mention my boyfriend?” — something Jared wouldn’t understand because, »

‘Game of Thrones’ Battle of the Bastards Was Fought with a Rubber Sword

26 June 2016 3:23 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

With nearly 100,000 votes from fans, last week’s episode of “Game of Thrones” maintains a perfect 10/10 rating on IMDb. As such, director Miguel Sapochnik’s staging of the genuinely epic conflict over Winterfell, the Starks’ ancestral home, has already entered the conversation as being perhaps the HBO drama’s greatest hour yet. Not every single aspect of “Battle of the Bastards” holds up to closer scrutiny, however — namely a quick shot of Jon Snow’s sword.

Longclaw, as the blade is known, is made of Valyrian steel — the strongest, most precious material in all of Westeros. Since that doesn’t actually exist, certain concessions had to be made in the name of both safety and reality. My experience with swords is limited, but I’m pretty sure they don’t usually flop around like rubber. »

‘The Leftovers’ Secret Weapon: How Mimi Leder Revamped Season 2

24 June 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Mimi Leder can direct the shit out of anything.”

That’s Justin Theroux describing his showrunning director on “The Leftovers,” but it’s also as close as an opinion can come to being factual — and one supported by this critic. A helmer of giant blockbusters (like “Deep Impact”) and intimate dramas (like “The West Wing”), Leder expertly transformed Damon Lindelof’s wild words — “He has a lot of huevos,” Leder said — into a unique vision that brought them to life like no one else could. And she did it with incredible insight into everything from what makes each character tick to what the audience needed to see in order to access those characters.

Speaking to Indiewire shortly before starting production on Season 3, Leder dug into how the series developed over its first two seasons, what she brought to the table as a director and why one big scene didn’t »

Stay Puft Crushes the Ghostbusters in 4 New TV Spots

23 June 2016 4:13 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Earlier today, the new Ghostbusters theme song was released, entitled "I Ain't Afraid," by Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliot. Given how divided many fans are about this Ghostbusters remake, it remains to be seen if this will be universally loved or hated when this reboot hits theaters on July 15. While we wait to see if it's a huge hit or a colossal flop, we have four new TV spots from this reboot, which give us a new glimpse at Stay Puft, along with some interesting insight from Sony's Tom Rothman.

Ever since it was revealed that there will be an all-female cast, a vocal minority of Ghostbusters fans have expressed their displeasure with the casting all throughout the production. Director Paul Feig has even taken to Twitter several times to defend his movie and the cast, but during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman »

Listen to the New Ghostbusters Theme Song by Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliot

23 June 2016 9:24 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last week, the official Ghostbusters soundtrack song list was released, which revealed that the group Fall Out Boy will be teaming with rapper Missy Elliot on a new version of the theme song, dubbed "I'm Not Afraid." While the full soundtrack won't be released until July 8, this new song was released online today. This Ghostbusters reboot has certainly become quite divisive among fans, and this song most likely won't ease any of the debate swirling around the movie. In fact, we're willing to bet, that some of you will consider this this the final nail in the coffin.

The song debuted through Fall Out Boy's official YouTube page, and for fans of Ray Parker Jr.'s original theme song, you may not like this version at all. Practically every aspect of this reboot has been under severe scrutiny by longtime fans of the original, and this theme song will certainly spawn even more debate. »

Fall Out Boy And Missy Elliot's Remixed Ghostbusters Theme Song Is The Worst Thing You'll Hear Today

23 June 2016 7:32 AM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Someone really needs to tell Sony that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. In the player below, you'll find the new Ghostbusters theme song cover by Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott, and, well, it's pretty terrible. This obviously doesn't mean that the movie will be bad (though there are many convinced that it will be), but a remix like this certainly isn't going to win over sceptical fans convinced the reboot will suck.  Directed by Paul Feig, this new movie will focus on Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones), Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy), Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig), and Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), along with Chris Hemsworth (as the team’s secretary), Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh, and Neil Casey as the reboot’s lead villain. Ghostbusters is currently set to be released on July 22nd, so stay tuned. »

First Trailer for Greg Mottola's Comedy 'Keeping Up with the Joneses'

"Who are these people?" 20th Century Fox has unveiled a trailer for Greg Mottola's latest comedy, titled Keeping Up with the Joneses, which is almost a bit like Mr. & Mrs. Smith about a couple next door that are actually super spies. On the other side are Isla Fisher and Zach Galifianakis, an ordinary suburban couple that are in for a wild ride when they figure this out. Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot play the "covert operative" couple - whoever cast them did a perfect job. The cast includes Patton Oswalt, Matt Walsh, Kevin Dunn and Maribeth Monroe. This looks like it should be harmless entertainment, right? Enjoy. Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot Go Undercover in First ‘Keeping Up With the Joneses’ Trailer

22 June 2016 8:42 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot are too perfect to be ordinary new neighbors in 20th Century Fox’s first trailer for the action-comedy “Keeping Up With the Joneses.”

“You know, there’s something off about them — they’re both so overly accomplished,” Isla Fisher’s character, Karen Gaffney observes. In the film, Fisher plays a suburban wife to Zach Galifianakis.

It turns out that their gorgeous and sophisticated new neighbors, Tim and Diana Jones, are covert operatives who soon come under attack.

“Here’s the thing about trust — once it’s gone, bad things can happen,” Hamm’s character tells his neighbor, forebodingly.

Fisher and Galifianakis are soon embroiled in an international espionage caper with plenty of gunplay and car chases.

In one sequence, Hamm and Gadot point guns at their neighbors as Hamm shouts, “Get in the car.” But the tension breaks when Galifianakis makes a run for it, »

New Ghostbusters TV Spot Has Balloon Monsters Raining on a Parade

If you're not on the Ghostbusters parade this summer, you're not alone. This reboot is currently one of the most derided movies of the season, and one TV spot is likely to dissuade you. But speaking of parades, there is a big one going down in Times Square, and it's been overrun by Ghosts. Only these four ladies can save the day, and the rest of the world while they're at it.

Recent TV spots have very clearly shown the return of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. But as this latest footage attests, we're not getting the 'real' Stay Puft. Fans have quite loudly complained about the look of the creature, and with good reason. The iconic monster is actually not himself these days.
