Stand Back! 64 Reasons Why We Love Stevie Nicks

26 May 2012 7:49 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Stevie Nicks is many things: Goddess Of Rock, style icon, survivor, and today is her 64th Birthday. We could never hope to give her all of the proper respect she deserves, but here's a small tribute to her legacy of cryptic lyrics, ethereal stage presence, and shawls.

So many shawls ...

1. - "Landslide." The greatest song ever written. Timeless, and one of the most covered songs of all time, from The Dixie Chicks to anyone learning the guitar ... or performing drunken karaoke.

2. "Sisters Of The Moon" - Hands down the best track from Tusk, the chances that Stevie would write a song named "Sisters Of The Moon" were always pretty good.

3. "Gypsy" - One of the definitive Fleetwood Mac songs, and one of the greatest music videos ever made.

4.

5."Silver Spring" Such a beautiful song, it was originally supposed to be included on Rumours but was left off because there just »

Cenk Uygur Blasts Congressman Joe ‘Tea Party Whore’ Walsh And Friends

23 May 2012 10:25 AM, PDT | Mediaite - TV | See recent Mediaite - TV news »

In an election that has seen a parade of their preferred nominees go down in screaming flames, the Tea Party has seen its relevance dwindle since their tri-cornered heyday. However, they can still manage to get Cenk Uygur worked up. On Tuesday night's The Young Turks, Cenk bemoaned the rapidity with which they were "co-opted" by banks, and went off on Rep. Joe Walsh (R-il), calling him a "Tea Party whore." »

The artists were honored during the school's commencement ceremony Saturday.

Students paid tribute to the artists with a concert featuring their music. More than 900 students from 58 countries graduated from Berklee this year.

Eagles Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit didn't perform at the nonprofit school.

First 'Killing Them Softly' Clip Is Kinda Perfect

10 May 2012 9:10 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Sure, it's only 41 seconds long, but there is just something so right about the first clip from Andrew Dominik's "Killing Them Softly" (née "Cogan's Trade").

The Brad Pitt-led crime film is set to make its world premiere at Cannes later this month, but a brief clip posted to YouTube gives us a first look at one of our most anticipated movies of the year.

In the clip, which is made up of one extended take, Sam Shepard's character questions Ray Liotta about the recent stick-up during a mob card game. The shot reeks of Dominik's unique style and is predictably awesome.

Check out the clip after the jump!

In "Killing Them Softly," Brad Pitt plays Jackie Cogan, a mob enforcer hired to investigate the card game stick-up. The clip above seems to be one part of the investigation.

This will be Dominik's first film since 2007's "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford »

Watch: Rock Legend Performs First Single In 20 Years

26 April 2012 9:59 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Longtime Eagle and altogether rock legend Joe Walsh is back with a performance of "Analog Man," the lead single off his first solo album in two decades.

The performance, which is premiering exclusively on HuffPost Entertainment, can be seen in the video player at the top of this article.

"It's been 20 years and I have a lot to say," Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Walsh said via press release. "These songs come from the heart."

Jeff Lynne -- of Electric Light Orchestra fame -- also makes a guest appearance.

As we reported when the single was released, the track is the rock equivalent of Jay-z's "Death of Autotune," an anti-digital manipulation screed that features Walsh railing against everything from LCD TV screens to e-mail.

"Welcome to cyberspace, I'm lost in a fog," the 64-year-old sings. "The whole world's living in a digital dream / it's not really there, it's all on the screen. »

London's sprawling arts centre houses a much-loved cinema

• Check out our Google map and flickr group

Every week we invite our readers to tell us about where they go to watch films. This week it's the turn of Joe Walsh, who regularly writes about film at Little White Lies, CineVue and New Empress. Follow Joe on Twitter here.

The building

Located in east London, not far from London's banking district, the Barbican is a sprawling complex that houses the largest, and perhaps finest, arts centre in Europe. It also boasts a fantastic cinema.

The complex maze of concrete buildings, constructed in the brutalist architectural style, may not appeal to everyone's taste, but there is an undeniable warmth and beauty to the cinema and centre.

The clientele

Despite its somewhat awkward location and maze-like construction, the cinema appears to thrive, drawing an eclectic mix of young and old to special events »

Rock Legend Releases First Song In Two Decades

21 March 2012 10:42 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Joe Walsh has released the lead single off his first solo album in twenty years.

The track, "Analog Man," premiered on Rolling Stone this morning. It's the rock equivalent of Jay-z's "Death of Autotune," an anti-digital manipulation screed that features Walsh railing against everything from LCD TV screens to e-mail.

"Welcome to cyberspace, I'm lost in a fog," the 64-year-old sings. "The whole world's living in a digital dream / it's not really there, it's all on the screen."

Walsh has one of the most commercially successful careers in rock and roll, doing stints in not one but three popular bands. The guitarist was a part of the James Gang, Barnstorm, and, of course, the Eagles. On Analog Man, Walsh is joined by Ringo Starr (Walsh's brother-in-law) on drums.

Paul McCartney enlisted Walsh to play guitar at his 2012 Grammy Awards Show performance of "My Valentine," off McCartney's album Kisses on the Bottom. »

Sprung! Favorite New Rock Singles for Early Spring 2012

7 March 2012 6:52 AM, PST | www.culturecatch.com | See recent CultureCatch news »

Here's eleven of my favorite new rock tunes for your early spring listening pleasure. Enjoy the melodic sunshine, people.

"Eskimo Kiss" The Kooks Junk of the Heart (Astralwerks)

Not sure why my fellow critics insist on dropping the "sounds like The Strokes" tag on these Brits. And some scribes have whined they aren't "edgy" enough. So what. I hear more of The Kinks and The La's as reference points. And to me, that's much better company if you love more pop in your rock. Case in point, the infectious ear candy of "Eskimo Kiss," my pick hit from their latest long player (LP). Currently on tour in the U.S. of A.

"Stay At Home" Yellow Ostrich Strange Land (Barsuk)

Speaking of the Strokes...I hear more than a hint of their aggro-guitar pop rock in this very fine track from former Wisconsinite/current New Yorker Alex Schaaf. His newly »

Burlesque Dancer Tempest Storm, 83, Celebrates A Belated 21st Birthday

28 February 2012 8:51 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Calling someone a legend before they celebrate their 21st birthday might sound hyperbolic. But, in the case of burlesque dancer Tempest Storm, it just might apply -- with a notable caveat.

Storm, a fiery redhead known during the 1950s and '60s as "the Tempest in a D-cup," was born on Feb. 29, 1928, a leap year.

That means even though the calendar says she is turning 84, she is only celebrating her 21st birthday.

Some people might be a little anxious to wait 84 years for their first "legal" drink, but Tempest Storm says she never drinks so she is looking forward to other aspects of her unique once-every-four-years birthday.

"It keeps you young," she told HuffPost Weird News. "Certainly, my fans always know the date."

Yes, they do, according to Laura Herbert, the official historian of the Burlesque Hall of Fame, a Las Vegas institution dedicated to remembering or honoring dancers like Gypsy Rose Lee, »

The Grammys from the Quipping Gay Authorities

13 February 2012 4:29 AM, PST | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

You'd think a Grammys saddled with old-timers, expected wins, and repeat performances (Foo Fighters, Paul McCartney, apparent phoenix Chris Brown, and Bruce Springsteen all took the stage twice) would make for a languid viewing experience, but get this: The 2012 Grammys was one of the slickest and most entertaining award ceremonies I've seen in the past... three years? At least two, anyway.

It was pleasurable and seemingly fast, even with the bewildering shock of Whitney Houston's death still in the air and without Lady Gaga's magnificent ovoid entrance of 2011. We found fun in a truly hopeless place. And a dubious new hairdo for Rihanna too, to boot! Everyone wins.

I hate gushing snarklessly about an organization as execrably out-of-touch as the Grammys, but I can't help that the performances were palatable. Bruce Springsteen isn't quite the shuffling troubadour of Asbury Park anymore, but he was a perfect opening act: »

Adele's Sweep, a Prayer For Whitney Houston, and More 2012 Grammys Highlights

12 February 2012 10:13 PM, PST | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

The 2012 Grammy Awards were all about Adele's major wins and the sad passing of Whitney Houston. After a kickoff from Bruce Springsteen, host LL Cool J led a prayer for Whitney and gave a look back at some of her stellar Grammys performances. Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt honored another late musical star, Etta James, with a song. Bonnie and Alicia also presented best pop solo performance to Adele for "Someone Like You." Adele, who suffered from vocal problems for the last year, appropriately thanked her doctors. Further accolades went to Jay-z and Kanye West, both absent, for best rap song with "Otis," and Dave Grohl's Foo Fighters picked up best rock performance for "Walk." Bon Iver took home best new artist. Rihanna and Coldplay teamed up for one of the evening's most memorable duets. Her "We Found Love" segued into Coldplay's "Princess of China" and "Paradise." Grammys 2012: Paul McCartney's 'My Valentine' performance

12 February 2012 7:03 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

For his first performance at the 2012 Grammy Awards, Paul McCartney went the subdued route, sitting on a stool in a tuxedo, while Diana Krall backed him on the piano and Joe Walsh played guitar, to perform "My Valentine." It was just lovely.

"My Valentine" is his latest single, which he wrote for wife Nancy Shevell and performed at their wedding back in October. Awww. The song is the first single off McCartney's latest album, "Kisses on the Bottom," which is a mixture of oldies and new songs, featuring McCarntey reinterpreting tracks made popular by Sam Cooke, Ella Fitzgerald and Danny Kaye.

The album version of "Valentine" includes Eric Clapton on guitar; Stevie Wonder plays on another track from the album, "Only Our Hearts." The album is available for download and in stores now.

We'll post video of "My Valentine" as soon as we have it.
