CBS officially canceled "Unforgettable" this week, but the show may still have a chance at survival thanks to a couple of cable networks.
TNT and Lifetime have each had talks with the show's producers, Sony Pictures TV and CBS Studios, about picking up the show for a second season, Deadline reports. Discussions are still in their early stages.
"Unforgettable" was one of the highest-rated shows to get the ax this season, averaging 12 million viewers and a 2.5 rating among adults 18-49. It starred Poppy Montgomery as a former detective with a near-perfect memory who consults with the Queens homicide squad led by her ex (Dylan Walsh).
The show would be a decent fit with either TNT, which has several female-lead crime shows on its schedule -- and will lose flagship series "The Closer" at the end of the summer -- or Lifetime, which has tried and failed to launch a couple »

Exclusive: The cancellation of CBS’ freshman drama Unforgettable was one of the closest calls this upfront season. Now the procedural starring Poppy Montgomery and Dylan Walsh is exploring a move to cable. I’ve learned that producers Sony Pictures TV and CBS TV Studios have had preliminary conversations with TNT and Lifetime about potentially picking up the series. Unforgettable, which centers on Carrie Wells (Montgomery), a New York detective with the ability to visually remember everything, would make sense for both TNT and Lifetime. TNT has had a lot of success with female-lead cop procedurals with The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles. Lifetime has tried hard to launch one with two recent series, The Protector and Against The Wall, both of which were cancelled after one season. Turner has been the most open to rescuing broadcast series with NBC’s Southland going to TNT and most recently Cougar Town moving to TBS. »

It turns out that Unforgettable didn't live up to its name. CBS has cancelled the police drama after one season on the air.
The TV series revolves around Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery), a female police detective with an unusually detailed memory (hyperthymesia) that helps her solve crimes. The cast also includes Dylan Walsh, Michael Gaston, Kevin Rankin, and Daya Vaidya.
Unforgettable started out the season with a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 14.09 million total viewers. Over the course of the season, the drama's ratings declined. At the end of the season, they fell as low as a 1.8 demo rating with 9.45 million viewers.
The season ended up averaging a 2.3 rating in the demo with 11.3 million viewers. While the total number of viewers is impressive, the demo number (and its decline) is not. CBS already has »

CBS Cancels CSI: Miami and Unforgettable, Rob and NYC 22
CBS renewed a slew of shows a two months ago and also announced the pick-up of seven new series (and the likely cancellation of A Gifted Man earlier today, but now the high-rated network has officially canceled two shows.
CSI: Miami: This CSI spin-off has been on the air for 10 years, but its ratings are slipping. Its most recent season (which only consisted of 19 episodes) was pulling in about 8 million total viewers and a 1.7 rating in the key demo. For any other network that might seem like stellar ratings, but for CBS it tended to be on the low-side. In a statement, the network said “CSI: Miami leaves an amazing television legacy – a signature look and style, global popularity and as a key player in CBS’s rise to the top over the past decade. We thank all the producers – led by Jerry Bruckheimer, »

This crime drama revolves around Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery), a woman who has a (nearly) perfect memory. She can recall every place, day, and conversation that she's ever had. Unfortunately, she can't let go of the ones she'd rather forget, including the murder of her sister many years earlier. Unlike any other event in her life, Carrie can't recall some key details of that day when she and her sister were playing in the woods and it haunts her.
Years earlier, Carrie worked for the Syracuse Police Department and used her abilities to help solve crimes as a detective. Carrie »

In March, CBS handed down a lot of early renewals for next season. The network is doing very well so there weren't any surprises in the bunch. One show that wasn't mentioned was Unforgettable. Does this series have a chance at being renewed or is it doomed to be cancelled?

Unforgettable, which wasn’t among the shows to elicit an early renewal by CBS, will make a strong case for consideration by serving up a memorable final salvo of episodes starting tonight at 10/9c. And those who stick around for the May 8 season finale may, just may, join Carrie (played by Poppy Montgomery) in unearthing a major reveal about her sister’s murder.
But first….
This week Carrie has a slightly smaller fish to fry — a case of her work and romantic worlds colliding, George Costanza-style — when her bad boy beau Jackson Hurst is revealed to have ties to a murder suspect. »

In addition to my day job, I teach a class at Nyu on the Television Industry. Each class, in addition to a specific lesson plan, the students and I usually touch on the top shows of the week -- what they watch, what America watches; the overlaps and the disparities.
Each week, as we go over the week's most watched shows, at least one student asks: "Who the hell watches NCIS, anyway?"
NCIS, now in its 9th season, just celebrated its 200th episode as the most watched TV show of the week. Not one of my students, aged 18-21, has ever seen an episode. CBS currently has 11 dramas in primetime that, despite regularly and overwhelmingly winning their time slots are watched by relatively few of us in the Media Elite Bubbles of New York and Los Angeles.
