2012 TV Pilot Review – Soaps and Remakes

9 March 2012 6:29 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

After the high profile and, what Hollywood execs like to call “high concept” shows of last week’s article, this week I will be going through new pilots which follow two trends I like to call “remaking is breaking” and “Desperate Housewives is over and Grey’s Anatomy has got to end sometime”.

Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives have been big ratings pulls in the coveted demographic (18-49 if you don’t know) for ABC and have meant big advertising bucks. And, even though Grey’s prolific creator Shonda Rhimes, who will be show running three to five shows next season depending on pickups, has claimed that Grey’s will move past eight seasons, there is a general sense that the show is on the decline and, coupled with the loss of Desperate Housewives at the end of the current season, there is a definite hole in the market. »

Grey’s Anatomy Boss Tabs Torchwood Captain for Gilded Lilys

8 March 2012 5:32 PM, PST | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Shonda Rhimes’ (showrunner for Grey’s Anatomy) upcoming period drama pilot Gilded Lilys has found a fantastically good-looking leading man for the ladies to swoon over. Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to announce Gilded Lilys will play host to the marvelous talents of Captain Jack! No, not Jack Sparrow. I mean the one, the only, the immortal Jack Harkness of Doctor Who and Torchwood fame.

John Barrowman has made a name for himself playing the “I’ll have sex with anything that moves” type that is Captain Jack, and will continue to play to that strength in Gilded Lilys. He plays Julius Ashford Lily, the golden boy of the wealthy Lily family. He’s his mother’s favorite, and the women don’t mind him too much neither. Like any handsome man of means, Julius is charming when he needs to be and has no problem getting in bed with any woman he desires. »

Army Wives Season 6 Tease Nude Camo

7 February 2012 2:48 PM, PST | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Lifetime’s hit show Army Wives has scheduled its season 6 premiere for Sunday March 4th. The show’s promotional poster is a far cry from what they’ve done in the past. Its not unusual for Army wives to be seen in camouflage, however in this case, it has been painted on to the actresses.

According to TVLine.com, stars of Army Wives Sally Pressman, Catherine Bell, Kim Delaney, Brigid Brannagh and Wendy Davis are channelling the Dixie Chicks by posing all together in not much more than their birthday suits. The wives are ready to be noticed.

Army Wives is based on the non-fiction book Under the Sabers: The Unwritten Code of Army Wives written by Tanya Biank. The book, as well as the series is set at the fictional Fort Marshall in South Carolina’s old Charleston Naval Base. Biank, who at one time was a military reporter, »

Hot Shot: The Army Wives Have Season 6 Appeal

6 February 2012 5:57 PM, PST | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Lifetime’s Army Wives finally have a Season 6 premiere date, and now they’re ready to be noticed — by, ironically, wearing nothing but body camouflage body paint.

In this new piece of Season 6 key art — which you may have spied online in recent days, or perhaps on a billboard in Los Angeles — Sally Pressman, Catherine Bell, Kim Delaney, Brigid Brannagh and Wendy Davis channel the Dixie Chicks by posing all together in the altogether. And despite the camo paint, they definitely do not blend.

Army Wives launches its new season on Sunday, March 4, at 9/8c.

It seems the Warrior Princess will never die (good news to those of us who still haven't gotten over the series finale). This was supposed to be the last year the Annual Xena: Warrior Princess Convention would be held, but fan outcry caused its organizers to relent, and it's official: there will be a Xena Con 2013. After that, who knows?

Stars Lucy Lawless (Xena) and Renee O'Connor (Gabrielle) are appearing this weekend, along with fan favorites Hudson Leick (Callisto), Adrienne Wilkinson (Eve/Livia), writer/producer Steven Sears, writer Katherine Fugate (Army Wives, Valentine's Day, The Prince and Me), Claire Stansfield (Alti), Jacqueline Kim (Lao Ma), Brittney Powell (Brunhilda), and more.
