Christian Slater Joins USA’s Cyber Crime Pilot ‘Mr. Robot’

USA is continuing its focus on adding household names to its roster, announcing today that Christian Slater will play the title role in the pilot for its cyber crime thriller “Mr. Robot.”

The project focuses on a young programmer (“24’s” Rami Malek) who suffers from a debilitating anti-social disorder and decides that he can only connect to people by hacking them. Slater plays a mysterious anarchist who recruits him into an underground organization intent on bringing down corporate America. It hails from Universal Cable Productions and is executive produced by Sam Esmail (“Comet”), Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin (“True Detective”) and Chad Hamilton (“Breakup at a Wedding”), and Niels Arden Oplev (Sweden’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “Under The Dome”). Portia Doubleday (“Her”), Carly Chaikin (“Suburgatory”) and Martin Wallström (“Simple Simon”) also star.

Christian Slater has a new title: Mr. Robot.

The Mind Games and Breaking In alum has landed the title role in USA Network’s cyber-crime pilot, which centers on a mysterious anarchist (Slater) who recruits a brilliant cyber security engineer (24‘s Rami Malek) into an underground hacker organization intent on bringing down corporate America.

The potential series also stars Portia Doubleday (Her), Carly Chaikin (Suburgatory) and Martin Wallström (Simple Simon).
