Slamdance 2012. Competition Lineup

Ten narratives and eight documentaries are lined up for the 2012 Slamdance Film Festival Competition. Variety's Dave McNary reports that two titles "already generating buzz are Bindlestiffs in the feature lineup and We Are Legion: The Story of Hacktavists in documentaries. Bindlestiffs, directed by Andrew Edison, stars Andrew Edison, Luke Loftin and John Karna as smart-mouthed high school virgins, who are suspended from school on a graffiti charge and flee to the inner city to live out the plot of The Catcher in the Rye. We Are Legion, directed and written by Brian Knappenberger, is a look inside the world of Anonymous, the radical 'hacktivist' collective that's redefined civil disobedience for the digital age."

The other narrative features:

Roller Town from Glen Jm on Vimeo.

Andrew Bush's Roller Town, with Kayla Lorette, Mark Little and Scott Vrooman.

Derek Franson's Comforting Skin, with Jane Sowerby, Tygh Runyan and Victoria Bidewell. »

Walliams' Thrill At Queen Meeting

10 December 2011 6:11 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

British comedian David Walliams was delighted to meet Queen Elizabeth II this week (begs05Dec11) after the royal took the time to chat to the funnyman about his recent charity swim.

The Little Britain star swam 140 miles (225 kilometres) along England's River Thames in September for the U.K.'s Sport Relief organisation, and he was among the guests at a reception at Buckingham Palace on Thursday for famous adventurers.

Walliams was greeted by the monarch, and he was surprised to learn she had been keeping up-to-date with his challenge, which left the funnyman sick with a stomach bug and nursing a back injury.

Speaking on Britain's The One Show on Friday, he says, "I got to meet the Queen last night at Buckingham Palace. She invited me to meet her because of the swim.

"It was amazing - I got to chat to her twice. She asked me how I was so she'd followed the whole thing and knew I wasn't well. It was adventurers and explorers... we were all sharing stories." »

David Walliams In Great Expectations

8 December 2011 6:59 AM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

You've already caught a glimpse of Jeremy Irvine's Pip and Helena Bonham-Carter's Miss Havisham from the new adaptation of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. Now it's the turn of David Walliams, who plays the awesomely-named Mr Pumblechook. As you'll probably all remember from Mr Ramsay's third year English literature class, Mr Pumblechook is uncle to young Pip's brother-in-law and guardian Joe Gargery (Jason Flemyng). Pumblechook is instrumental in connecting young Pip with the rich, eccentric Miss Havisham, but he's also a supercilious and rather arrogant man who Pip dislikes considerably. And judging by this photo, he's modelled his hair on Jenny Agutter in The Railway Children, which is always a good look.Great Expectations also stars Robbie Coltrane, Holliday Grainger, Sally Hawkins, Ewen Bremmer and of course Ralph Fiennes as the convict Magwitch. Mike Newell is directing, and it's due out sometime next year. »

Come Fly with Me Series One Blu-ray Review

2 December 2011 2:30 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Exiting the cosy surrounds of Little Britain, via an uncertain visit to the States, David Walliams and Matt Lucas arrived on BBC One last year with a new show, with all new characters and some very high expectations.

Come Fly with Me is far more than an airport bound Little Britain Part Two as the documentary format allows for some slow burning character development which wasn’t always a feature of the preceding show. One Vicki Pollard sketch was much like another and there’s mileage in the catchphrase comedy, particularly with these two clearly having the time of their lives and choosing to rarely simply rely on the characters doing nothing but spouting the usual lines, but Cfwm is a little different, and is all the better for it.

With Come Fly with Me their scene is set in and around an airport with low-cost airline Fly-lo providing the »

'EastEnders' Samantha Womack for 'Britain's Got Talent'?

Former EastEnders star Samantha Womack has reportedly been lined up to judge the next series of Britain's Got Talent. Womack, who played Ronnie Mitchell in the soap, is said to have held "secret talks" with ITV bosses and is now on the shortlist to join the panel. "Samantha is brilliant and the bosses love her," a source told The Sun. "She's hugely popular as ten million people watched her every week on EastEnders - and she's got a fair old mouth on her. "She's not afraid to call a spade a spade, but she also has a down-to-earth approach that producers think will encourage acts. We don't just want the judges to slag people off."
