Michael Ealy Will Lead The Jacob’s Ladder Remake

A remake of Adrian Lyne’s Jacob’s Ladder has been brewing over in Hollywood for a few years now, and today, Variety reports that Ld Entertainment have found their lead in Michael Ealy.

Described as more of a reboot of the 1990 film than a straight remake, the project boasts a script from Alison Rosenzweig and Jeff Buhler, who rewrote Jake Wade Wall’s original draft, and has David Rosenthal behind the camera.

Plot details are scarce at this point, but Variety’s report mentions that it will be a “modern-day paranoid action thriller about two brothers.” That doesn’t give us a whole lot to go on, but apparently the producers are hoping to “contemporize the story with new situations and characters but still maintain a story that examines issues and poses existential questions.”

It’s been some time since I’ve seen the original Jacob’s Ladder, but

Film Review: ‘Cabin Fever: Patient Zero’

Film Review: ‘Cabin Fever: Patient Zero’
Just in time for the latest Ebola outbreak comes “Cabin Fever: Patient Zero,” the second (but one doubts last) in-name-only sequel to Eli Roth’s 2002 cult hit about the scorched-earth path of a flesh-eating virus. Cheap enough to make Roger Corman wince and so strenuously serious (at least until someone gets their face smashed in with a giant dildo) that you pine for the “Mystery Science Theater” commentary track, “Patient Zero” brings the bad biological voodoo to the Dominican Republic, where unethical doctors and hard-partying tourists battle to escape an infected isle with their epidermises intact. Only the least discerning of gore hounds will have the patience to see who emerges victorious.

Until well past the hour mark, “Patient Zero” seem like two separate, equally uninspired riffs on Roth’s overhyped original, as if the filmmakers had started down one path, run aground, then started over again and haphazardly stitched together the results.

Cabin Fever: Patient Zero - Five Fast Questions for Director Kaare Andrews

When Cabin Fever came out in 2002, it was a sensation among fans of freaky frights. The film packed more than a little punch with its own version of the karate kid, a leg shaving scene that set disposable razor sales back for a year, and a German Shepherd who made Cujo look like a lapdog.

Eli Roth’s Cabin Fever left a legacy hard to live up to, but of course a dumbed-down sequel was released. It was directed by Roth’s Bff Ti West, but one would never guess that after the studio heads got hold of it in the editing room and butchered it.

Regardless, the Cabin Fever name still carries weight so there is a prequel that's out now on demand and will be in theaters on August 1, 2014.

This time the story centers about the initial outbreak of the creeping virus. On a remote island, Patient Zero

Review & Interview by Daniel Xiii.

“Does this look infected?”

Your ol’ pal (well, I guess for the readers here at Famous Monsters I’m your new pal, seeing as this is my first review here!) Daniel Xiii really digs a flick that piles on the gore, a preference that has existed in me since the glory days of 80’s splatter shockers; so any new release that harkens back to those more extreme, over-the-top days of gallons o’ grue is always welcome in the crypt of Xiii.

To that end, when the original Cabin Fever—a cross between the Evil Dead and Street Trash directed by genre stalwart Eli Roth (Hostel 1 and

Cabin Fever 3: Patient Zero is More Red Goo than Surprise Ending: A Movie Review

*full disclosure: a theatrical screening of this film was provided by Sinister Cinemas and Raven Banner Entertainment. Director: Kaare Andrews. Writer: Jake Wade Wall. Cast: Sean Astin, Currie Graham, Ryan Donowho, Brando Eaton and Jillian Murray. Cabin Fever 3: Patient Zero was originally developed as a prequel. This film would be the first in the franchise, followed by Eli Roth's Cabin Fever (2002) and Ti West's Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2009). Later, the script was reworked and the film is the second sequel in the franchise. And really, this is a standalone film as this title has only the loosest connections with the previous two films. This second sequel uses several standard indie horror features, which will be recognizable to most fans. However, actor Sean Astin as Porter offers a few deadly surprises along the way. Also, a few slower moments threaten to derail the momentum of the film,

Rlj/Image Set to release Cabin Fever: Patient Zero this June! VOD/iTunes Dates!

Rlj/Image Entertainment is set to unleash the third film in the Cabin Fever franchise, Cabin Fever: Patient Zero, and it actually looks pretty decent if I do say so myself. Directed by Kaare Andrews, who comic book fans know as the writer and artist for various Marvel titles, including The Incredible Hulk and The Amazing Spiderman, Cabin Fever: Patient Zero looks as if it breathes new life into the franchise, hopefully in a more successful way than the second film in the series (the second film is notorious as being so tampered with by the studio that director Ti West wanted his name removed from it), and appears to be a pretty gory ride. The folks at Rlj/Image are unleashing the virus on viewers beginning with a VOD release date of June 26th, followed by a limited theatrical/iTunes date of August 1st. Will you fright

Cabin Fever: Patient Zero Review

In all fairness, director Kaare Andrews could have shown colonoscopy footage for an hour and a half and it still would have entertained viewers longer than Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever managed to – but our ambitious auteur goes above and beyond by delivering a sequel more in line with Roth’s original cult phenomenon. Sure, Rider Strong doesn’t drop in for another “explosive” cameo, but back once again is Roth’s flesh-eating virus, and this time it’s ready for the big leagues. Cabin Fever: Patient Zero is a puss-ridden, grotesque, splattery bit of biological horror, and while it lacks the indie charms that wooed franchise fans initially, Andrews’ pseudo-reboot could be the start of something nasty – rivaling Roth’s signature brand of stomach-turning visual horrors.

Since ruining a friendly vacation and eating through a prom, officials are still struggling to contain the hungry virus causing so much devastation.
