How One Fan Helped Get Dwayne Johnson Cast in 'Fast and Furious' Instead of Tommy Lee Jones

24 August 2016 3:00 PM, PDT | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

When Dwayne Johnson made his first appearance as a supporting character in the Fast and Furious series back in 2011 (above), it was a pleasant surprise. By that point, Johnson had been starring in action vehicles like The Rundown, Walking Tall and Doom for years, and tended to supplement his star turns with supporting roles in comedies like Get Smart and The Other Guys. Johnson made a definite impression in Fast Five as Hobbs, a role in which he represented law and order as a member of the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service, charged with capturing Dom (Vin Diesel) and Brian (Paul Walker). He ends up helping them instead. Hobbs returned in Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7 and reportedly plays a key role in the upcoming Fast 8. Originally, however, another actor was envisioned to...

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's beefy role in Fast Five? That was originally written for Tommy Lee Jones, Vin Diesel reveals...

Released in 2011, Fast Five marked a major turning point in the Fast & Furious franchise. Street racing and tinkering with modified cars took a back seat to rippling muscles and high-octane action - and audiences loved it. The Fast series has been on an upward trajectory ever since in financial terms, with each sequel out-performing the last at the box office.

That change in fortunes is thanks in no small part to Dwayne Johnson, who made his debut as the towering lawman Luke Hobbs in Fast Five. But according to Vin Diesel, the part of Hobbs wasn't written for Johnson at all, but veteran actor Tommy Lee Jones. During a video posted on Facebook, Diesel explained that Johnson's casting in Fast Five came as a result of feedback from fans. »

Fast 8: Dwayne Johnson Channels 'The Rock' And Goes Off On 'Candy A$$' Male Co-Stars

9 August 2016 8:25 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

When you hear Vin Diesel talk about them, you'd think the recurring cast of the Fast & Furious franchise are like family. Ever since the untimely passing of Paul Walker, there's been an overriding message from the cast of these films that they've created incredible bonds with one another over the years, and that losing Walker was like losing a brother.

It would appear that Dwayne Johnson doesn't feel quite as rosy about things...

The actor, and former full-time professional wrestler, took to social media last night to put some of his male co-stars on blast. Johnson, who used to taunt opponents as "The Rock" when he was in the WWE by calling them "Rudy Poo Candy A$$es," dusted off that old phrase while shining a spotlight on what he calls incredibly "unprofessional" conduct by some of his male co-stars on the set of Fast 8.

'Beyond': 'Most Satisfying' Among Rebooted 'Star Trek' Movies, But Gay Sulu a Dramatic Miscalculation

'Star Trek Beyond' with Chris Pine as Captain Kirk: Will movie franchise reboot achieve 'escape velocity'? 'Star Trek Beyond' Review: Movie franchise needs to boldly go where J.J. Abrams has never gone before We're never told what “beyond” refers to in Star Trek Beyond, the 13th film in the venerated sci-fi series. But here's a theory: if the franchise is to regain its footing after the tepid returns of Star Trek Into Darkness, it will have to move beyond J.J. Abrams, the writer/director who used his brand of copycat magic to relaunch the series in 2009. In our reboot era, he's got the canny ability to provide older audiences with enough familiarity to keep them under the tent while giving new audiences enough youthful verve so they don't feel the franchise isn't for them. Latest Fast 8 set photo and video show Dwayne Johnson walking away from car wreck

20 July 2016 12:40 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Over the past 15 years, if the Fast & Furious franchise has taught viewers one thing, it’s that although their characters may not have superpowers, they operate and ward off death as if they were superheroes. For example, Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto has driven his car off a giant cliff, Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner has jumped from a speeding train onto a speeding car and much more, only to walk away relatively unscathed each time.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that the latest photo from the set of 2017’s Fast 8 features Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs confidently walking away from an overturned car, paying no mind to the wreckage behind him. The caption attached reads: “The Iceman cometh. And he don’t fucketh around. #OnSet #FastAndFurious8 #ZeroToleranceForBullshit #Iceman.” See the badass photo, which comes from Johnson’s Instagram, here…

Star Trek 4 Will Not Recast Anton Yelchin's Chekov

19 July 2016 5:49 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Just weeks before Star Trek Beyond was set to debut in theaters this weekend, a horrible freak accident left star Anton Yelchin dead. In the wake that followed, Paramount Pictures decided to keep the star's character Ensign Pavel Chekov out of any new marketing materials, including the TV spots and banners. The movie does pay loving respect to both Yelchin and iconic Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy in the end credits. But it isn't known how the franchise will move forward without Anton Yelchin just yet.

The PostMedia Network caught up with producer J.J. Abrams, and asked the difficult question about what will happen to the character of Chekov. Abrams made it very clear that Paramount Pictures and the team behind the recently announced Star Trek 4 will not recast Anton Yelchin's character. Though, they are not sure how they will move forward without the actor.

Part James Bond, part “Point Break,” the original “xXx” was a cheesy action spy thriller with enough badass set pieces and trademark Vin Diesel charisma to turn a profit. 'Furious 8': New Featurette is a Car Lover's Wet Dream

15 July 2016 11:24 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

While the Fast & Furious franchise may have dramatically changed over the course of the past fifteen-plus years, one thing that hasn’t changed is its emphasis on cars. Sure, Dom and his crew rarely ever actually race the damn things, but they remain integral to the plot and the methods for which they carry out their missions.

This trend looks to continue in Furious 8, the latest film in the long-running series, and the first one since Tokyo Drift without one of its leads, Paul Walker behind the wheel. Despite the tragedy, this sequel is in full force, and has Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray now at the helm in what looks to be another exciting entry.

Throughout the production, the Fast & Furious marketing team has done a great job of releasing behind the scenes videos almost weekly on their official YouTube channel, and the latest one introduces audiences »
