The Alphabet Network is at home in Shondaland. TV Line reports The Catch TV show on ABC has been renewed for a second season. When the series was not included in ABC's early season, fans feared The Catch would be cancelled.

A high-stakes private investigator/cat-and-mouse drama, The Catch features Mireille Enos as Alice Vaughan, who runs an excluse P.I. and security firm, Anderson/Vaughan, with her best friend and partner Valerie Anderson (Rose Rollins). When Alice's fiancé, Christopher Hall (Peter Krause) targets swindles her out of 1.4 million dollars and disappears, she learns he is the Mr. X she has been tracking for her clients -- master con artist Benjamin Jones. Alimi Ballard, Jay Hayden, Jacky Ido, Sonya Walger, and Elvy Yost also star.

At last, we’ve finally met the mysterious Benefactor.

Last week on ABC’s “The Catch,” John Simm (“Doctor Who”) made his debut as Rhys, the man behind the con team of Ben (Peter Krause) and Margot (Sonya Walger), and it’s clear that there’s a power struggle brewing — probably because Rhys also happens to be Margot’s brother.

In Variety‘s exclusive preview clip for the May 5 episode, titled “The Ringer,” Simm’s Rhys is planning the next con with his teammates — and he’s not getting his way.

“The young wine baron is checking in today, and he’s bringing with him the sweetest little gambling addiction,” The Benefactor tells Ben and Margot. Downton Abbey” star Lesley Nicol has joined ABC’s “The Catch,” Variety has learned.

While no details on her character or storyline have been made available — in typical Shondaland fashion — sources say Nicol will have a substantial recurring role on the Thursday night drama.

The latest series from Shondaland, “The Catch” stars Mireille Enos as private investigator Alice Vaughan, who is the victim of fraud perpetrated by her fiancé (Peter Krause). The cat-and-mouse thriller also stars Sonya Walger, Rose Rollins, Elvy Yost, Jay HaydenJacky Ido and Alimi Ballard.

Nicol starred on “Downton Abbey” as Mrs. Patmore for the series’ entirety.

At last, we’ll get to put a face to “The Benefactor.”

British actor John Simm (“Doctor Who,” “Life on Mars”) has joined the cast of ABC’s cat-and-mouse thriller “The Catch,” Variety has confirmed exclusively.

He’ll play the mysterious benefactor behind Ben/Christopher (Peter Krause) and Margot (Sonya Walger), who’s been footing the bill for their elaborate financial cons. As the leader of the organization they work for, they’re deeply in debt to him, and he’s coming to collect.

“He’s one of my all-time favorite actors,” showrunner and executive producer Allan Heinberg told Variety. “I’ve wanted to work with him my whole professional life, and I could not be more grateful for that. We’re getting a great guest cast.”
