[DVD Review] The Matrix: The 10th Anniversary Edition

If you've seen The Matrix you know why the film community heralds it as a benchmark achievement in filmmaking. Just as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Wars set the bar for film special effects, The Matrix came along and made us re-examine everything we thought a movie could do. Revolutionary, groundbreaking, mindblowing - these are all terms people use to describe The Matrix. It's certainly all true, but up until now, what I'd appreciated most about The Matrix was this: it packaged a Philosophy 101 course into a digestible Sci-Fi flick with a raging techno/rock/orchestral score and jaw-dropping action sequences. The Blu-ray release of The Matrix turns this scale on its head bringing the action scenes to the level they were always meant to reach - now the film is superb all the way around.

Blu-Ray Review: Everyone Needs to Own ‘The Matrix’ in HD

7 April 2009 6:36 AM, PDT | From HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news

Blu-Ray Rating: 5.0/5.0 Chicago – Like a lot of movie fans, one of the first DVDs I owned in the early days of the technology was the revolutionary “The Matrix,” starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Joe Pantoliano from directors Andy and Larry Wachowski. Not only was this sci-fi action extravaganza an easily re-watchable film but it looked amazing with DVD quality. Of course, HD was developed for movies like “The Matrix,” now available as a stand-alone Blu-Ray release for the first time.

The tenth anniversary edition of “The Matrix” brings the already-influential tale of Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity home in crystal-clear 1080p High Definition with the film’s original 2.40:1 aspect ratio. The impressive audio track is a Dolby TrueHD English 5.1 track and the film also includes French and Italian 5.1 tracks and Spanish and Portuguese 2.0 tracks.

What is there to say about the plot of the quality of “The Matrix

The Matrix 10th Anniversary - A Look Back On The Trilogy

31 March 2009 5:09 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

One of the greatest and most memorable movies ever made celebrates its 10th anniversary today. That movie is The Matrix.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been ten full years since The Matrix opened on the big screen on March 31, 1999 to great reviews, a plethora of film awards and an incredibly strong fan base. The movie sits at #29 on IMDb’s top 250 movies as voted by users with over three-hundred thousand votes and it has 86% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie, written and directed by Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski, set new standards in special effects for action and gunplay, martial arts choreography, sound and music style all the way to cinematography and editing. On top of that, they took a geeky concept and made it insanely popular and cool amongst mainstream moviegoers. It was an action movie that was both intelligent and stylistic and it did pretty much everything right.

Wachowskis 'Considering' Superman Trilogy

17 February 2009 2:10 PM, PST | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

The Matrix filmmakers Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski have been offered the chance to take over the Superman franchise and make a trilogy of movies about the Man of Steel, according to reports.

The superhero franchise has been on hold since 2006's Superman Returns, which was directed by Bryan Singer.

According to movie website Ain't it Cool News, Singer has turned down the chance to make another Superman movie, paving the way for studios bosses at Warner Bros. to offer the job to the Wachowskis.

The site was tipped off by a recent interview James McTeigue - who directed the brothers' film adaptation of comic V for Vendetta - gave to a German TV station.

McTeigue revealed the Wachowskis' plans to make a movie about comic character Plastic Man have been postponed, and that they are considering a three-part follow-up to Superman Returns.

A source tells Ain't it Cool News, "(The Wachowskis) are currently reviewing their options as it's like being asked to take the final play in a Super Bowl final.

"Making a Superman movie is unbelievable as they have grown up in the world of comic books and they would be ideal for the project."

Rumor: The Wachowskis to Direct Superman Trilogy?

12 February 2009 10:05 AM, PST | From newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news

According to a scoop at AICN, the Wachowski brothers have been approached and are considering a reboot of the Superman franchise for Warner Bros.

James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) said “Plastic Man” was the next hero for Andy and Larry Wachowski, but the project has been delayed indefinitely at WB. Instead, the studio offered a complete reboot of Superman in a proposed trilogy to the Matrix duo. Maybe WB forgot about the box office failure that was Speed Racer.

The news says Bryan Singer, who directed Superman Returns, is looking to move on from the Man of Steel and possibly taking over the Logan’s Run remake. This conflicts with the August 2007 announcement of Joseph Kosinski as the director, but it does mean Singer isn’t interested in continuing through the series as previously reported.

The overall news aligns with the news from August 2008 when Warner Bros Pictures President Jeff

Bryan Singer Losing Superman Sequel to Wachowskis?

12 February 2009 3:15 AM, PST | From Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news

According to AICN the Wachowski Brothers are set to take over the Superman franchise from ousted Bryan Singer, and if they are in charge, they will want to reboot it into a Matrix-style trilogy.

The "dub-bros" were set to start work on another super-flick, Plastic Man, but Warner Bros. has put that project on hold, which would allow for the brothers to work on Superman.

AICN goes on to say...

The Wachowski's are currently reviewing their options as its like being asked to take the final play in a Superbowl final. [McTeigue] says if they do agree, he will likely either succumb to providing second unit support on the movie or will champion the directorship of 'Plastic Man.' The very thought of the brothers making a 'Superman' movie is unbelievable as they have grown up in the world of comic books and they would be ideal for the project.
