In truly tragic and infuriating news, actor Daniel von Bargen (Lord of Illusions, Super Troopers, The Silence of the Lambs, The X-Files, Thinner, "Seinfeld") fumbled a suicide attempt and has been hospitalized.
According to the 911 phone call posted by TMZ (who else?) the character actor made from his Cincinnati home, von Bargen sustained a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head. The 61-year-old appears discombobulated on the phone: "I was supposed to go to the hospital and I didn't want to… they were supposed to amputate at least a few toes," he said, adding that he is diabetic.
Though we wish von Bargen well and hope that he'll have a speedy recovery, we find it hard to elicit much sympathy for the man after trying to take his own life.

We will not link the audio. If you're a sick f*ck, go Google it. According to the call, Von Bargen shot himself to avoid going to the hospital. He is a diabetic and was supposed to have two of his toes amputated that day. According to Montgomery Police Srgt. Greg Vondenbenken, Von Bargen was seriously injured. This is sad news in and of itself, of course. But what’s making it even sadder is the six-minute-plus 911 call TMZ obtained. We would really, really like to unhear it now.
To spare you from the same, we’ll just recap it right here and then you can avoid it at all costs: Von Bargen says he shot himself in the temple with a 38, five to 10 minutes before calling. The operator asks a number of questions and apparently wants to keep him talking until the EMTs get there. Von Bargen says he won’t be able to get to the door and he can’t open his eyes. He admits to shooting himself »
