Director: Michael Nankin.
Writers: Paul De Meo and Andrew Kreisberg.
SyFy's Red Faction: Origins premiered Saturday, June 4th, with a second showing Monday, June 6th and there is also an upcoming DVD release of this title, August 30th. The launch of this film almost coincides with the release of the latest Red Faction game, titled Red Faction: Armageddon, which can be unpacked June 7th. So obviously, there is some cross promoting occurring between the SyFy Channel and Thq. The film itself is an exciting, action paced thriller, set on Mars. Twenty-Five years previous to the show's main events, a group of socialists fought for freedom, against the Earth Defense Forces. However, the battle still rages on, as Red Faction, led by Alec (Robert Patrick) and Jake Mason (Brian J. Smith), must battle marauding tribes and the remnants of the Earth Defense Forces, now called The White Faction.

Warning! (Or, Good News! depending on your point of view). The next Syfy Original Movie is not about a monster or a cataclysmic event. It’s a movie based on the Red Faction video game series, and it looks really promising, so mark your calendars: Red Faction: Origins will be airing this Saturday, June 4, at 9 pm. On May 31, Syfy hosted a Q&A panel with four of the principals from the movie. During the panel, stars Brian J. Smith (Sgu) and Kate Vernon (Battlestar Galactica), director Michael Nankin (Caprica, Battlestar Galactica) and executive producer and writer Andrew Kreisberg (Fringe, Warehouse 13) shed light on the production, and what might be in store for the franchise.
Those who love the Red Faction games will be relieved to know that writer Kreisberg had played Red Faction: Guerrilla, and jumped on the chance to write this movie when approached by Syfy.

To start with the good news, Sasha Roiz will be back on TV every week this fall. His new show, Grimm, has been picked up to series by NBC. Spoiler TV has the first still from the pilot, which was written and exec produced by David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, and we'll probably get more details about the show after the upfronts. For now, here are the basics, from TV Line:
A fantastical drama, Grimm stars David Giuntoli (Privileged) as a detective whose mission is to protect humans living in a world where Grimm’s Fairy Tale characters actually exist. Silas Weir Mitchell (Prison Break), Sasha Roiz (Caprica) and Kate Burton also star. The bad news from NBC is that 17th Precinct didn't make the cut. Not much to add that hasn't been said at the Battlestar Blog.
David E. Kelley's take on Wonder Woman hasn't been picked up either. »

A regular round of Tuesday updates:
Magda Apanowicz guest stars in tonight's episode of Hellcats, "Warped Sister" (9 pm, CW) and she'll be back on the show next week, too. Daemon's TV has the preview and photos.
Hellcats has only three episodes left this season. The show still hasn't been picked up and, since it came back from the break, it has been chalking Caprica's Friday night ratings. (If you're a fan, it's probably time to start spreading the word.)
A quick update on Eric Stoltz appearing on Wilfred, since the news was picked up by Spoiler TV, several other sites, and even Wilfred the Dog himself -- the original tweet from the show's casting director has been removed, so possibly daddy Graystone won't be making that appearance after all. (Thanks to the visitor who pointed this out.)
In more verified Stoltz news, he definitely did make an appearance at »

You played the game, now watch the movie! … Well, that logic works for summer box office, why not for Syfy too? Smith (Stargate Universe), Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day), Kate Vernon (Battlestar Galactica), Gareth David-Lloyd (Torchwood) and Devon Graye (Dexter). Here’s your trailer, which best we can tell has to do with Martian colonists and a lost sister: »

Now that SyFy has officially announced a release date of June 4th for their TV movie sequel to the Red Faction video game series, gamers everywhere would be a remiss without just a taste of what's to come for Alec Mason.
Speaking to the press after the announcement, the cast and crew of Red Faction: Origins had a few key bits of info on the series, including whether or not Syfy might pick it up to series.
Terminator 2 star Robert Patrick will pick up the role of Alec mason, the hero of Red Faction: Guerilla, but appears in the film somewhat older and grizzled as his son Jake (Brian J. Smith) takes center stage. Origins will also star Kate Vernon (Battlestar Galactica) as "The Matriarch" of the series' Marauders.
Additionally, the film's director Michael Nankin (Battlestar Galactica, Caprica) notes that the film won't exactly reach the epic scale of the games, »

Thq's "Red Faction" games have gone from surprise hit to all-out media assault in the last few years. Comics based on the IP are already out in the wild and the next piece of the multimedia puzzle will now premiere on SyFy on June 4th.
I've written previously about how the "Red Faction: Origins" TV movie will bridge the gap between "Red Faction: Guerilla" and the soon-to-be-released "Red Faction Underground." But, the cable network has only just announced the airdate for the new show. It's got a 9 P.M. Et/Pt timeslot and stars the liquid-metal Terminator himsle, Robert Patrick as an older Alec Mason.
And if you're looking for synchronicity, the two-hour movie comes out only days after the May 31st launch of the new game. Pertinent details from the press release follow:
Directed by Peabody-Award winner Michael Nankin (Caprica, Battlestar Galactica, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Red Faction: Origins »

Summer 2011 will see a number of Syfy horror-oriented series and Original Movies.
Syfy’s summer programming will include the new original series Haunted Collector, premiering Wednesday, June 1 at 9 p.m. (Et/Pt), in which a family of paranormal investigators hunt down haunted items bedeviling their owners. The second season of Haven (based on a Stephen King story) starts up Friday, July 15 at 10 p.m. (Et/Pt). Last season, when FBI agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) arrived in the town of Haven, Maine on a routine case, her knack for unraveling mysteries proved an asset when she discovered that the seemingly sleepy town was, in fact, a longtime refuge for people with supernatural afflictions. Now, in Season Two, Audrey must not only stay on top of Haven’s many afflictions, but also solve her most challenging case yet: the secret of her own lost past and its ties to Haven.
