Shonda Rhimes Killed Off a TV Character Because She Hated the Actor

13 November 2015 4:10 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Character deaths keep TV interesting. And it's a question everyone has had over the past decade as more and more shows feel it necessary to kill off audience favorites. Do some show runners have certain characters axed simply because they can't stand the actor? While a lot of producers and writers will stay mum on that subject, Shonda Rhimes doesn't mind telling the truth. In a recent interview with The Nightly Show, she confided in host Larry Wilmore that she has put a hit out on a certain character in the past. And it was because she couldn't stand the so-called 'thespian' bringing her creation to life. Though, don't look for her to name names, of which there are many.

The simple fact is, you do not cross Shonda Rhimes! The woman is behind some of the biggest hits on TV at this moment in time. She has created Grey's Anatomy, »

‘How To Get Away With Murder’: Who Shot Annalise?

1 October 2015 5:23 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The Season 2 premiere of “How To Get Away with Murder” ended with a bang, leaving Viola Davis’ Professor Annalise Keating shot in the gut, before the screen cut to black.

Per usual in the world of Shondaland, the cliffhanger won’t be resolved for quite some time, and each episode will deliver more clues into the night Annalise was wounded, ultimately answering the question: who shot Annalise?

Aja Naomi King, who plays law student Michaela on the ABC drama, tells Variety that not even the cast knows the shooter’s identity.

“Anyone is really up for grabs, so to speak,” King says, joking that she is just as curious as the viewers. “At this point, with the way that things are going and how we still don’t really trust Annalise or each other, it could have been any one of us just to get out from under her.”

Still, Wes (Alfred Enoch) is quite suspicious of Rebecca’s whereabouts, and “Eggs 911” has also become more suspicious with another anonymous text, this time to Michaela (Aja Naomi King). Aside from Rebecca, Famke Jannsen’s character is introduced and revealed to be the woman behind »

Watch: ‘Htgawm’ Season 2 Trailer — Rebecca’s Killer Revealed in Premiere

11 September 2015 10:50 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The first trailer for Season 2 of “How To Get Away with Murder” has arrived, and when the whodunnit phenomenon returns, a major question will be answered — who is Rebecca’s (Katie Findlay) killer?

In the Season 1 finale this past February, Rebecca’s lifeless body was found under the staircase in Annalise Keating’s (Emmy-nominated Viola Davis) home. According to the new video, posted Friday by ABC on Twitter, the cliffhanger that ended the freshman season won’t be left up in the air for long — but, of course, another big twist will be introduced.

Talking to an undisclosed figure, Keating screams, “Now that you’ve done this, you’re a monster!”

As for Rebecca’s killer, the season teaser pans over each member of the Keating Five, plus Keating’s staffers Bonnie (Liza Weil) and Frank (Charlie Weber), who, in the Season 1 ender, was revealed to be the killer behind Lila Stangard’s murder, »

Viola Davis Talks ‘Murder’ Role: ‘I Was Tired of Being the Third Girl from the Left’

29 May 2015 1:55 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Actress Viola Davis was pretty open at Thursday night’s “How To Get Away With Murder” Fyc event at Sunset Gower Studios.

“I was tired of being the third girl from the left kinda feeling like I was jumping up behind a Meryl Streep or Julianne Moore saying, ‘Hey, I’m still here… I play the maid and I’ve got two lines!’”

The Shondaland star explained that saying “yes” to Annalise Keating was “a no brainer,” but not everyone on the panel was as loose-lipped. Even after a jaw-dropping finale on “Htgawm,” writer-creator Peter Nowalk kept any information about the ABC show’s impending second season under wraps.

“I don’t like to spoil anything. Obviously the fun of the show is you don’t know what’s coming,” he said.

Moderated by Debbie Allen, who directed an episode of the drama, the Q&A event revealed that viewers »

If Scandal's latest episode left you feeling completely gutted, you're not alone. On Thursday night, the addictive ABC series known for its outlandish twists - rigged elections! government conspiracies! an online bidding war for the president's mistress! - grounded the drama in something very real: racism. Titled "The Lawn Chair," the episode took on the shooting of an unarmed black teen by a white police officer: an allusion to the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson. When the boy's father, played beautifully by Courtney B. Vance, rushed to the crime scene, guarding his son's body with a shot gun, »
