NBC’s Constantine Has Found Its Papa Midnite

16 August 2014 11:08 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

After an extensive search, it looks like NBC has finally found its villain for Constantine. According to USA Today, newcomer Michael James Shaw has been cast in a recurring role as Papa Midnite, the “voodoo king of New Orleans” and a formidable magical adversary to the series’ titular supernatural detective.

Shaw is known for such riveting roles as “Caterer” in Today _ _ cks, “Homesless Man” on The Wire (uncredited), and “Don-o-mite” in an eponymous 2014 short film. Needless to say, Constantine is the biggest role he’s landed yet, and I’m interested to see what he does with it.

Papa Midnite was last played by Gladiator and Guardians of the Galaxy alum Djimon Hounsou, who was great in an otherwise lackluster film. In the comics, Midnite first appeared in Hellblazer issue #1 as an immortal mob boss, businessman, and voodoo practitioner operating out of New York City. He often operates on the wrong side of the law, »

Michael James Shaw Is Papa Midnite in NBC's 'Constantine'!

15 August 2014 2:16 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

One of the biggest casting questions swirling around NBC's Constantine has finally been answered, with newcomer Michael James Shaw signing on to play the iconic Papa Midnite in the upcoming series.

Michael James Shaw will have a recurring role as Papa Midnite, the voodoo king of New Orleans who serves as a primary adversary to Matt Ryan's John Constantine. In the original Hellblazer comics, Papa Midnite and Constantine didn't see eye to eye since his first appearance in Hellblazer #1, but they have also been allies at different times during the original comic's run. USA Today reports that, with "evil forces rising on Earth," Constantine and Midnite may have to join forces.

It isn't known exactly when Papa Midnite will make his debut on the series, or how many episodes he will be featured in.

Timecop Reboot Picks Up Screenwriters Of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

10 April 2014 7:56 AM, PDT | | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Total Recall. RoboCop. Blood Sport. Godzilla. The Fantastic Four. The Pink Panther. Gremlins. For better or worse, Hollywood loves a reboot. The latest reboot to make the leap into development is Universal's Timecop. THR reports Universal has hired cousins Mark Gunn and Brian Gunn, co-writers of the Dwayne Johnson action-comedy Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, to write the screenplay for a rebooted Timecop. The original 1994 movie starred Jean-Claude Van Damme and was inspired by the comic book series by Mike Richardson and Mark Verheiden. The action flick was set in 2004, where--as the trailer below outlines--"time travel is a reality." Meanwhile, in actual reality it's 2014 and we still don't even have hoverboards, but I digress. Anyway, in Timecop time travel wasn't only possible, but also a criminal offense. It's just too tempting to go back and time and steal sweet loot (Time Bandits) or bet on sporting events you already »

Star Wars: Episode VII Location & Casting, He-Man Director, Woodland Avengers, Timecop Reboot, Karl Urban Talks Dredd 2

10 April 2014 6:47 AM, PDT | | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Star Wars Last week, rumors began circulating that J.J. Abrams might be revisiting some of the classic environments of the original Star Wars trilogy in Star Wars: Episode VII, namely the ice planet Hoth and the desert planet Tatooine. Now, THR is adding some weight to at least half of that rumor by reporting that a "source" inside the production has revealed that Abrams is building a "re-creation of Tatooine." Abrams is a self-avowed devotee of the original movies and the entire Skywalker storyline revolves around the desert planet so this seems like one slam-dunk of a rumor.

Far less certain is the recent rumor that a virtual unknown has landed a major role in the new trilogy. Again, THR is out in front of this rumor, placing Oxford-educated actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers "in line to nab" a key role, possibly as the Jedi daughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi. So far, the »

Breaking Bad Star Aaron Paul in Talks for The Dark Tower

21 January 2014 1:34 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

When The Dark Tower was in development with Universal Pictures back in 2011, it was considered one of the most ambitious projects in Hollywood history. Stephen King's seven-book series would have been adapted into three movies and two limited-run TV shows that were set to debut between the films. However, that all fell apart when the studio dropped the project in July 2011. Warner Bros. expressed interest in reviving the project back in August 2012, but they ultimately passed a few weeks later. The last we heard about The Dark Tower was in September, when director Ron Howard insisted that the adaptation is not dead yet, but we have had no proof of that beyond the director's word, until now.

Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul revealed in a new interview that he has met with director Ron Howard, to discuss playing protagonist Eddie Dean. Here's what he had to say to Ain't It Cool News, »
