TimeCop - the 1994 time travel action movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme - is getting a reboot, according to reports. Based on comic writer Mark Verheiden’s Time Cop, the original film imagined a world where time travel would be possible but police regulate its usage. Netflix Interested in Hemlock Grove Season 2

23 May 2013 10:03 AM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

If you enjoyed the first season of Hemlock Grove, there’s a good chance that a second season will go into development. Netflix’s chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, recently spoke to THR about the possibility of a second season: “We’re hearing the pitches for the second season with plotlines and storylines now.”

Regarding the mixed reaction that the series received from horror fans, Sarandos talked about who the show appealed to: ”Hemlock is much more polarizing; you either love it or hate it. The crossover for the people who love the show was American Horror Story, not The Vampire Diaries. It was incredibly popular in the Nordics because of the popularity of the Skarsgards [Bill Skarsgard stars] and in Latin America, where the horror genre is very big… The other thing I look at is the tween segment. Hemlock Grove is horror, but it’s not really CW horror; it’s much more adult than that. »

Timecop Getting A Reboot From Universal

23 May 2013 3:51 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Universal are planning to reboot Timecop. Destined for another big screen outing, this time producers Mark Shmuger and Tom McNulty are developing the time travel actioner under the Global Produce label.

Based on a story by Dark Horse Comics, Timecop was originally introduced as a three part tale in an anthology. The 1994 adaptation was penned by the comic’s creators Mike Richardson and Mark Verheiden. Directed by Perer Hyams and starring Jean Claude Van Damme as the time enforcement officer, the flick follows the Timecop as he solves crime across the ages. Ron Silver played the dirty politician Van Damme brought down in that first adaptation.

THR stated that Universal are on the hunt for writers for what will be “a re-imagining of the concept.” News first broke back in 2010 about Universal’s desire for a new Timecop franchise. At that time the project »

Universal Believe It’s Time For A ‘Timecop’ Remake

23 May 2013 1:48 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

I was never a huge fan of Jean-Claude Van Damme’s output but I do have a soft spot for a trio of his frankly ridiculous actioners. John Woo’s bonkers Hard Target was highly entertaining thanks to some silly set-pieces and a hammed-up Lance Henriksen. The brilliant and underrated Powers Boothe, also on villain duties, raised Peter HyamsSudden Death into something fairly watchable, while a re-teaming with Hyams with The Muscles From Brussels on an adaptation of the Dark Horse comic-book Timecop by Mike Richardson and Mark Verheiden, brought my favourite bout of Van Dammage, in part due to a fascinating concept and a slimy Ron Silver (you see a theme here).

The 1994 sci-fi thriller also spawned a woeful Stv sequel (led by Jason Scott Lee), as well as a short-lived television series but Universal Pictures believe now is the time to resurrect the promising premise of the »

'Timecop' reboot in the works at Universal

Universal Pictures announced Wednesday that it plans to reboot the time travel action movie Timecop in a partnership with production company Global Produce.

Based on Mark Verheiden’s Dark Horse Comics title Time Cop, the original film imagined a world where time travel would be possible and where police regulate its usage. Peter Hyams’ 1994 film starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as an officer who tries to go back in time to save his wife from being killed — and stymie the endemic corruption that has emerged as a result of time-travel technology.

Timecop Reboot in Development at Universal Pictures

The 1994 sci-fi action-thriller Timecop is getting the reboot treatment at Universal Pictures. The studio is seeking writers to craft a completely re-imagined concept and story. Marc Shmuger (We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks) and Tom McNulty (The Watch) are producing.

Jean-Claude Van Damme starred in the original as a security company agent who regulates time travel. He tangles with a corrupt politician (Ron Silver) with ties to his past. Jean-Claude Van Damme will not be a part of this project.

The original is based on the Dark Horse Comics series created by Mike Richardson and Mark Verheiden. Mike Richardson went on to produce films such as Hellboy, 30 Days of Night, and R.I.P.D., while Mark Verheiden has made his mark on the small screen, producing shows such as Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, and Falling Skies. There is no word whether they will be involved in the reboot.

'Hemlock Grove': Darkness Is Coming

18 April 2013 9:26 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

At the foot of a sweeping grand staircase in the foyer of an imposing early 20th century mansion, Famke Janssen is stoically explaining what's going to happen next to Bill Skarsgard as he fights back tears.

The two are filming a scene of "Hemlock Grove," the epic new Netflix series helmed by horror-master Eli Roth. The show is based on Brian McGreevy's novel of the same name, and follows two teenage boys (Skarsgard and "Degrassi" alum Landon Liboiron) at the center of a murder mystery in a creepy small town full of supernatural elements.

Its horror-esque approach and broad mix of supernatural beings may sound a lot like "True Blood" (which stars Skarsgard's older brother Alexander), but "Hemlock" is carving its own path. "We started by casting an entirely different Skarsgard," jokes McGreevy, who serves as an executive producer on the show.

TV Review: Derivative ‘Hemlock Grove’ Goes Down Slowly

15 April 2013 7:30 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Without providing much supporting evidence, Netflix has proclaimed “House of Cards” a success, which is plausible (if a trifle irritating) given mostly favorable reviews and front-page stories about whether the distributor’s binge-viewing format would reinvent TV as we know it. From a subscriber standpoint, “Hemlock Grove” — a horror concept from director Eli Roth — might be an even surer bet, although the series itself is undistinguished, playing like a slightly saucier version of the CW’s supernatural youth-skewing soaps. Disemboweling teenagers is a tried-and-true horror staple, but beyond dedicated genre fans, a few sips of “Hemlock” will more than suffice.

Novelist Brian McGreevy developed his book as a series with Lee Shipman, and the first three episodes rather slowly disgorge secrets, while oscillating between teens and their parents to provide multigenerational froth, much like gothic soaps ranging from Fox’s “Point Pleasant” to CW’s “Secret Circle” to CBS’ “Harper’s Island. »

Hemlock Grove, based on Brian McGreevy’s novel of the same name, puts a spin on the current trend of werewolves and vampires, replacing love triangles with body parts and unconsummated longing with raunchy, bloody sex.  The story picks up in the small town of Hemlock Grove following a string of grisly murders when new boy in town, Peter Rumancek, gypsy trailer trash and rumored werewolf, comes under suspicion for the crime.  Peter finds an unlikely ally in Roman Godfrey, golden boy of the wealthy and influential Godfrey estate, Hemlock Grove’s resident wealthy philanthropists in the model of the Carnegies.  Together the pair attempts to solve the mystery of the murder before the killer can strike again.  From Producers Eli Roth, Lee Shipman, and Mark Verheiden, the show stars Famke Janssen, Dougray Scott, Lili Taylor, Bill Skarsgard, Landon Liboiron, Penelope Mitchell, Freya Tingley, Kandyse McClure, and Aaron Douglas, and premieres April 19th on Netflix. »

Check Out the First Trailer for Eli Roth's 'Hemlock Grove'

9 January 2013 4:30 PM, PST | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

Netflix, in their first appearance at the semi-annual Television Critics Association conference, presented the first trailer for Hemlock Grove. The supernatural thriller from producer Eli Roth is getting its premiere on Netflix on April 19th, with all 13 "episodes" available on launch day. "It's like a long 13-hour movie as opposed to episodic television," executive producer Mark Verheiden said.

The story, on it's surface, sounds like Twin Peaks: when a high school girl in Hemlock Grove (a steel community, as opposed to Twin Peaks' lumber community) is murdered, the concoction of bizarre townsfolk are drawn into the case. Unlike Twin Peaks, however, Hemlock Grove leans squarely into supernatural territory - no doubt about it. "There's no shortage of monsters on the show and they tend to fall on different varieties --  like what separates a human from a monster," said Brian McGreevy, whose novel, Hemlock Grove was the basis for the series. »
