“Are you criticising me?”

This is awkward. If it weren't for the fact that no one sets out to make bad TV, we'd almost think that Doug Naylor was going meta with this one. How rubbish can an episode that lampoons criticism possibly be?

Well, contrary to the dopamine release that reviewers supposedly get from slagging something off, (cheers, Kryts) it gives us no pleasure to say that Timewave is not up to the high standard that Red Dwarf Xii has set in the last two weeks. In fact, we'd go »

Eiff 2017: Double Date Review

6 July 2017 6:24 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Richard Phippen

It’s hard not to like and admire a low-budget British genre flick when it’s written by a young English actor and directed by his friend, even if the writer has given himself the lead role. In this instance, it’s a rather brave move, as screenwriter Danny Morgan, probably best known for regular appearances in the Johnny Vegas vehicle Ideal, has cast himself as Jim, a nerdy virgin about to hit 30. It’s a successful collaboration with Benjamin Barfoot too, a visually impressive director with a distinctive vision for the project at hand.

Online dating hasn’t helped Jim’s sexual cause, and his chat-up technique is non-existent, so his best mate Alex (Michael Socha) decides he’s to be responsible for getting Jim’s cherry well and truly popped before his birthday is up. Unfortunately for the pair of them, they’re about to »

Tyler Perry Returns in Boo 2! a Madea Halloween This October

26 May 2017 11:43 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Before the holiday weekend gets under way, Lionsgate set new release dates for a pair of its upcoming projects. First up, the studio has handed out an October 20, 2017 release date for Boo 2! A Madea Halloween, a follow-up to last year's Boo! A Madea Halloween, from star/writer/director Tyler Perry. The studio also slated the new Aardman Animation stop-motion film Early Man for release on February 16, 2018. Unfortunately for both of those projects, they land on very competitive weekends.

Over the last few years, the third weekend in October has become increasingly crowded, but last year, Boo! A Madea Halloween managed to come out on top with a box office win of $28.5 million, easily beating three more newcomers, 20th Century Fox's Keeping Up With the Joneses, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back and Ouija: Origins of Evil. However, it only earned $73.2 million domestically and just $1.6 million internationally for a worldwide total of $74.8 million, »

Aardman are looking to bring back Wallace and Gromit, but not in feature films

5 May 2017 4:13 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Jon Lyus

Fans of incorrect lower limb attire, facial decortication and enormous Lycan-Lapine crossbreeds will be pleased this morning. Aardman’s Co-founder Peter Lord (and Master) has told a German VFX conference that he ‘absolutely assumes’ that Nick Park will bring back Wallace and Gromit to your screens soon.

According to THR Lord told the Fmx VFX and animation audience in Stuttgart, Germany recently,

“When Nick’s not drawing cavemen, he’s drawing Wallace & Gromit…I absolutely assume he will do another, but not a feature. I think he found it was too much. I think he liked the half-hour format.”

The Curse of the Were-Rabbit was a stretch for our old pals W&C, though the relentless invention and visual accuity was as mesmerising as ever. That we’ll see more Wallace and Gromit on the small screen is a reassuring sign that Aardman, no matter how far they travel, »

Movie Review – Free Fire (2016)

29 March 2017 6:05 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Free Fire, 2016.

Directed by Ben Wheatley.

Starring Brie Larson, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy, Sharlto Copley, Babou Ceesay, Enzo Cilenti, Jack Reynor, Sam Riley, Noah Taylor and Michael Smiley.

Synopsis:

Set in Boston in 1978, a meeting in a deserted warehouse between two gangs turns into a shootout and a game of survival.

Ben Wheatley deserves a rest. Since 2009, he’s directed six features, 14 episodes of a Johnny Vegas vehicle and two further episodes of Doctor Who. No genre can contain him, his previous, the hysterically overwrought High-Rise fell somewhere between the dystopian fantasy of A Clockwork Orange and a chic advert for a flat share. He’s dipped his toes into horror (the truly unsettling Kill List), the psychological (the psychedelic A Field in England) and social satire (Sightseers). Free Fire – a further divergent – is Wheatley’s bold, brash homage to the ashen, nihilistic gunfights of the 70s. Hair is bigger, »

Aardman Unearths Zippy First Teaser For Early Man

16 March 2017 7:17 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Stop-motion connoisseurs Aardman Animations are getting back into the game with Early Man, a prehistoric adventure starring Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston and Game of Thrones starlet Maisie Williams.

Slated for January of 2018, today brings forth the very first teaser trailer for Nick Park’s old-timey adventure flick, and fans of Aardman’s decorated body of work (see: Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run) ought to feel right at home. Up above, we’re introduced to plucky caveman Dug (Redmayne), a hero from the Stone Age with more courage than sense.

Placed at the forefront of his hapless tribe – here we see Dug’s allies scuppering a hunting trip, blissfully unaware that they’re creating too much noise – Redmayne’s protagonist spearheads a fight against the mighty Lord Nooth (Hiddleston), a ridiculously pompous governor/tyrant who hails from a neighboring Bronze Age town. Williams, meanwhile, is attached to the part of Goona, »
