Review: Mother’S Day

11 May 2012 9:50 PM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

Mother’S Day: First Look -Robg.

Let’s just get this out of the way right off the bat. Mother’S Day is a very unpleasant movie. I tend not to enjoy this particular sub-genre of horror movies that consist of films like Last House On The Left or Funny Games. I completely respect and understand their importance, but these are not the types of movies I break out on a Friday night when I have friends over for some beers and fun.

That said, Mother’S Day is by far the best of this sub-genre of horror movies. It’s by far the best film Darren Lynn Bousman has directed. And it’s also the best ensemble cast you’re probably ever going to see in a genre film of this sort. And while that praise makes it sound like the film is flawless, it’s definitely not perfect. »

Icons Exclusive Interview: Director Darren Lynn Bousman

11 May 2012 9:46 PM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

*Editor’s note: This interview originally appeared on Icons Of Fright’s sister site Massive Hysteria back in September of 2010. With this week’s DVD/Blu-Ray releases of both Mother’S Day and 11-11-11, we thought we’d present it again to the Icons audience completely unedited and uncut. Check it!

Considering director Darren Lynn Bousman’s impressive body of work, which spans over 3 Saw sequels, the crazy rock musical Repo! The Genetic Opera, an episode of NBC’s short lived Fear Itself TV series and the upcoming remake of Mother’S Day, it’s a surprise that we never got him in the hot seat for an extensive Icons Of Fright interview. So, with the launch of Massive Hysteria, we decided that he would make for the ideal interviewee to kick things off in style!

Bousman invited Mh over to his place for our career spanning lengthy chat, »

Featuring: Emilie Autumn, Sean Patrick Flanery, Bill Moseley, Ogre, Alexa Vega, Dayton Callie, Briana Evigan, Jessica Lowden, Terrance Zdunich, Paul Sorvino, Marc Senter

For the diehard fans of Repo! The Genetic Opera, when whispers began over a year ago that Darren Lynn Bousman (director of Mother’s Day, 11-11-11 and several of the Saw films) and Terrance Zdunich (Repo!, The Molting comic book) were teaming up once more for another musical endeavor, the project couldn’t debut fast enough. Promotional images promised a whimsical goth-tinged carnival spearheaded by Lucifer himself, and early glimpses of soundtrack bites included performances from iconic genre staples like Emilie Autumn, Ogre (Skinny Puppy) and Ivan Moody (Five Finger Death Punch). The project was not a studio endeavor; rather, it was filmed in about seven days, produced almost exclusively by Zdunich and Bousman themselves, with help »

Rebecca De Mornay is a Real Mother in Mother’s Day Trailer

27 March 2012 9:12 AM, PDT | Movie Cultists | See recent Movie Cultists news »

When Momma’s happy, everybody is happy, and when Momma’s mad… well, some people have to die.

Mother’s Day is Darren Lynn Bousman’s remake of the 1980 horror film of same name, and it looks like De Mornay steals the show as the mom with a set of unbreakable rules. I never saw the first film but this one looks like it could be pretty good, although there is one red flag that makes me wonder what might be wrong with it. Mother’s Day was actually filmed back in 2009 and I have to wonder why it sat around on a shelf for so long. And why is now deemed like a good time to release it? It’s not like it has a little-known actor in it that recently hit the big time.

Mother’S Day Trailer: Darren Lynn Bousman Horrific Vision of the 1980′s Classic

27 March 2012 6:00 AM, PDT | FusedFilm | See recent FusedFilm news »

Darren Lynn Bousman may not be the king of horror, but he did create quite a few movies under that genre. Like those Saw sequels (II, III, IV) you all know and loathe, the freakishly weird cult classic The Genetic Opera, and the gone in a blink of an eye flick 11-11-11. Now the director has come out with a remake of sorts. The first trailer for Bousaman’s Mother’s Day has been released. The movie is based on a remake of Charles Kaufman’s 1980 film of the same name.

Rebecca DeMornay is the crazed mother of three fugitive sons who find their childhood home occupied by “unwanted guests”. The movie also stars Jaime King, Deborah Ann Woll, Briana Evigan, Alexa Vega, Shawn Ashmore and Matt O’Leary.

New Trailer for Darren Lynn Bousman’s Horror Remake Mother’S Day

26 March 2012 6:03 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

A new trailer for director Darren Lynn Bousman’s remake of the 1980 horror film Mother’s Day has gone online. The film stars Rebecca De Mornay as a crazytimes mother who helps her three fugitive sons take care of a few unwanted houseguests. Bousman is best known as the director behind Saw II, III and IV, but his previous directorial effort, 11-11-11, came and went with barely a whimper. Mother’s Day looks to place him back in Saw-esque territory, and it appears to be a fairly effective horror/thriller. The movie was actually filmed back in 2009 and screened at Fantastic Fest 2010, where our own Bill Graham called it a “surprisingly fun mixed bag.” Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Jaime King, Deborah Ann Woll, Briana Evigan, Alexa Vega, Shawn Ashmore and Matt O’Leary. Mother's Day hits theaters for a limited engagement on May 4th, »
