ABC Family’s “Shadowhunters” has cast Stephanie Bennett in a guest starring role, TheWrap has learned. Bennett will play the role of Lydia Branwell opposite a cast led by Katherine McNamara and Dominic Sherwood, which also includes Harry Shum Jr., Alan Van Sprang, Alberto Rosende, Emeraude Toubia, Isaiah Mustafa and Matthew Daddario. “Shadowhunters,” the straight-to-series adaptation of the “Mortal Instruments” series of Ya novels by Cassandra Clare, will follow 18-year-old Clary, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is, but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters — human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. »

From comic-book adaptations to sci-fi, fantasy and horror. Here are the new geek-skewed shows coming to Us TV in 2016...

The world of TV has never been so crowded and, at the same time, geeks have never had it so good. As saturated as the big screen is with superhero films and sprawling shared universes, that mentality has well and truly bled onto the small screen too.

So there’s a lot of comic-book adaptations coming up in 2016 from Marvel, DC and others, but genre TV is represented across the board with science-fiction, fantasy and horror represented at pretty much every network and cable channel in the Us.

Jon Cor (Being Human) has been cast as weapons trainer Hodge Starkweather, the network announced Thursday.

ABC Family has cast Jon Cor as weapons trainer Hodge Starkweather in its saga series “Shadowhunters.”

The “Being Human” alum, who also appears in Syfy’s upcoming “Dark Matter,” will be a recurring guest star on the series.

Shadowhunters” is based on Cassandra Clare’s “Mortal Instruments” books. It follows Clary Fray (“Happyland” and “The Fosters’” Katherine McNamara), a teenager who learns that she is descended from a long line of the titular human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother is kidnapped, Clary must embrace her destiny and accept that the world is full of faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves.

‘Glee’ Alum Joins ‘ABC Family’s ‘Shadowhunters’

Glee” actor Harry Shum Jr. will play a centuries-old warlock in the ABC Family series “Shadowhunters.”

Based on the adult fantasy book series “Mortal Instruments” by Cassandra Claire, “Shadowhunters” follows an 18-year-old girl who discovers that she comes from a long line of human-angel hybrids who hunt demons.

Shum’s character, named Magnus Bane, is the high warlock of Brooklyn with eccentric style. He is wise, fierce, cunning and keeps his cards close to his chest. Despite his youthful appearance, he has been alive for hundreds of years.

Shum previously showcased his dance moves as Mike Chang in the Fox show “Glee” which recently finished its sixth and final season.

Shadowhunters” is produced by Constantin Film, with Ed Decter and McG serving as executive producers. McG will direct the pilot.
