The only drawback of a new show becoming a draw is that it has to come back – and, as both Downton Abbey and Homeland have proved of late, it can be hard to meet the expectations of viewers and reviewers. So, after such examples of difficult-second-series syndrome, it's welcome to be able to cite a case of exemplary season-two management: as Fresh Meat reaches the penultimate episode of its return-series tonight (10pm, Channel 4), writing, acting and plotting all hugely justify the decision to continue.

Order and Disorder put a positive spin on the end of the universe, while Fresh Meat was the week's only winning comedy

Fresh Meat back for Series 2

Fresh Meat, the award-winning comedy drama series written and created by Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong returns to Channel 4 on Tuesday 9th October at 10pm.

Returning to the student house at  Hartnell Avenue this term a little bit older but not much wiser are Jack Whitehall as Jp, Joe Thomas as Kingsley,  Kimberley Nixon as Josie, Greg McHugh as Howard, Zawe Ashton as Vod  and Charlotte Ritchie as Oregon, along with some new faces.

Jelka van Houten joins the cast as new housemate Sabine, "a foreigner" to mess with their vibe. She is a 29-year-old PhD student from Amsterdam, who is clean-living, straight-talking and sober!

The Fades and Kick Ass star, Sophie Wu (represented by Ken McReddie Associates) plays Heather, Kingsley's new girlfriend who also happens to be Josie's best friend.
