Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits $600 million worldwide

10 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, has continued Marvel Studios’ fine run of box office form, with the Phase Two sequel having now passed $600 million worldwide.

With $205 million domestically, The Winter Soldier is now just $1 million away from overtaking the North American haul of Thor: The Dark World, while globally the Chris Evans-headlined sequel is fast approaching Iron Man 2 ($623.9 million) and Thor: The Dark World ($644.8 million).

Despite competition from rival superhero flick The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the Captain America sequel should have no problem overtaking Thor: The Dark World, which would make it the third-highest grossing Marvel Studios release behind The Avengers ($1.518 billion) and Iron Man 3 ($1.215 billion).

As it happens, The Winter Soldier also looks set to surpass Warner Bros. Superman reboot Man of Steel ($668 million), which would bode well for the big showdown between the two film’s sequels on May 6th, »

Hayley Atwell's 'Agent Carter' rumored to be heading to ABC series pick-up

14 April 2014 2:35 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Anything that puts Hayley Atwell on my TV once a week is a good thing. It's that time of the year, where we hear all sorts of rumors about what might or might not be happening. This morning, one of the bigger stories concerns another ABC Marvel series, one that would run concurrently with "Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.", which is well on its way to a second season pick-up. While I haven't seen anything specific about the approach they're taking to the proposed series "Agent Carter," it would obviously hinge on Hayley Atwell's character from "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," one of the most interesting female leads they've had in any of the Marvel movies. It sounds like it would essentially serve as a prequel to the series they already have on the air, but is that enough of a change to make this worth the greenlight? If they do this, »

So let's talk about Captain America and Black Widow...

7 April 2014 3:23 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

So we all saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier. (Seriously, we all saw it.) And we’ve all had a good, long, thoughtful conversation about the deeper themes lingering under the surface of the paranoia-inducing, wiki-leaking, surveillance-state-exploding superhero sequel. But there’s a  more obvious thing we need to address — a question hovering over the whole movie that remains unanswered. Captain America. Black Widow. Question mark?

To recap, with spoilers. At the start of Winter Soldier, Cap and Widow’s relationship has evolved a little since The Avengers. But only a little. They’re co-workers. Widow’s mildly concerned that »

Here's Why Hawkeye Isn't In Captain America: The Winter Soldier

7 April 2014 12:00 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The fictional clandestine organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. plays a massive role in the plot of Joe and Anthony Russo.s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and as a result just about all of the major players get a time to shine. Both Samuel L. Jackson.s Nick Fury and Scarlett Johansson.s Black Widow play important supporting characters in the story, Cobie Smulder.s Maria Hill makes her first big appearance since The Avengers, and the movie introduces important people like Alexander Pierce (Robert Redford) and Agent 13 (Emily VanCamp). But while walking out of the theater I was bugged by a lingering question: where was Jeremy Renner.s Hawkeye? As audiences know thanks to appearances in both Thor and The Avengers, Hawkeye, a.k.a. Clint Barton, is a talented, high-level field agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., so it was a bit »

The Russo Brothers Talk Captain America 3 - Release Date Confirmed

7 April 2014 10:30 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo were recently guests on the Empire Podcast. They discussed their film, which is currently in theaters, and also talked about where they are on Captain America 3. (Disney and Marvel have also confirmed that the movie will be released on May 6th, 2016, pitting it against Batman Vs. Superman.)

The Winter Soldier was such an amazing film, I can only imagine how incredible the next one will be. During the podcast they give an update on the progress on the third film saying that that there have been a lot of discussions with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and that they have a general idea on the direction that they will take Captain America 3

If you've already seen The Winter Solider, then it shouldn't come as a surprise to you that the third film will focus on Steve Rogers' best friend, »

There Be No Damsels Here: The Women of ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier

6 April 2014 10:30 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Tony Stark and Pepper Potts. Thor and Jane Foster. Steve Rogers and…? Who is the significant other of Captain America? The fact that I can ask that question is one of the greatest strengths of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The Winter Soldier has three primary female characters: Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), and Agent 13 (Emily VanCamp), with the most prominent presence being Widow. Black Widow, at almost every point in this film, is portrayed as an equal to Captain America. She is strong, holds her own in a fight, and generally gets shit done. Maria Hill is brought in to the story by Nick Fury, and is giving orders to Cap in the climax of the film. Agent 13 is ordered by Nick Fury to stay close and protect him. And Captain America ends up romantically involved with none of these characters by the closing of the film. He »

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier': A reference guide

5 April 2014 8:00 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Nine films in, the movies released by Marvel Studios comprise an elaborate narrative tapestry, with connections running between films, the short DVD-extra One-Shots, and the rapidly expanding universe of TV projects. The films are purposefully designed to appeal to newcomers. I’m guessing that the vast majority of people who love Iron Man have never read an Iron Man comic book. (Side note: Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man is much cooler than pretty much any comic book version of Iron Man.) But speaking as someone who grew up devouring comic books, part of what makes the Marvel Studios films »
