Trivia:

Started as camera assistant after World War I. Full director of photography at Fox, 1924-1930. Under contract to Universal, 1936-1946. His best period was between 1938 and 1941, when he received four Academy Award nominations. Died unexpectedly of a heart attack at the age of 48, having just won his only Oscar for Joan of Arc (1948). See more trivia »
