Charles Urban was born on April 14, 1867 in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA as Carl Urban. He was a producer and director, known for Britain Prepared (1915), The Tempest (1905) and Combatting the Elements (1921). He was married to Ada Aline Jones and Julia Avery. He died on August 29, 1942 in Brighton, East Sussex, England.

Trivia (2)

Film pioneer--a competitor of Thomas A. Edison--who invented the Bioscope, a motion picture projector. He also developed, in association with G.A. Smith, a color process called Kinemacolour. In the 1910s and early 1920s he produced a series of newsreels, as well as early nature and science documentaries.
Formed Charles Urban Trading Co., Ltd., a film distribution company active from 1904-1914.
