‘Riddick’ Release Date Revealed & Will Go IMAX!

19 December 2012 10:00 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Vin Diesel has confirmed the release date for his sci-fi threequel Riddick, the next in the franchise that follows the futuristic adventures of serial-killing antihero, Richard B. Riddick. The Pitch Black actor announced via his Facebook page that Riddick will arrive in cinemas 6th September 2013 and has also secured an IMAX release (fingers crossed it’s the same for us here in the UK).

Riddick will this time have that ruthless and selfish streak back after the bloated shenanigans of The Chronicles Of Riddick. Crash landing on a mysterious planet and wanted by every bounty hunter in the universe, Riddick alerts those hunting him to his whereabouts, with a survival scheme to see the planets vicious creatures do their worst on the headhunters coming to collect their prize – and hopefully stealing one of their vehicles to make his escape.

After 9 Years, ‘Riddick’ Returns to Theaters in 2013

19 December 2012 8:00 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal will be putting Riddick – the third movie in the sci-fi franchise – in theaters on September 6, 2013, ending what will be a 9-year drought without Vin Diesel and his eyesight issues. Not only will the star be returning, writer/director David Twohy is also on board, meaning (at the very least) a sense of stylistic consistency. Unsurprisingly, the new feature has a lower budget and will involve less blockbuster-style action. This is pretty damned cool. Pitch Black was a lot of fun, Chronicles of Riddick was solid, and Diesel excels as this kind of survivalist action hero. The September slot doesn’t reveal a ton of confidence (which seems naturally after a poor tentpole showing and nine years), but this thing doesn’t have to change the world. It could be a bright spot in an otherwise dull wait until Awards Season 2013. Here’s the official synopsis: The infamous Riddick has been left »

Vin Diesel's 'Riddick' Will Finally Hit Theaters Next September

19 December 2012 7:30 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

By Hannah Soo Park

It's hard to believe, but a little over a decade has passed since Richard B. Riddick made his intergalactic debut in 2000's "Pitch Black." Ever since, the elusive sci-fi character has managed to garner enough appeal to be the center of a trilogy that includes 2004's "The Chronicles of Riddick" and the forthcoming "Riddick," which just got its official release date.

Universal has confirmed that the third installment of David Twohy's series will open on September 6, 2013, making it one of a handful of sci-fi flicks scheduled for a 2013 release. In addition to playing in conventional theaters, the movie will also hit IMAX theaters nationwide.

With all of that said, we should also mention that Vin Diesel is reprising his role as Riddick, an infamous antihero type, who's been on the run since his introduction in "Pitch Black." This time around, he's left for dead on a lifeless, »

Vin Diesel Bringing 'Riddick' to IMAX Screens in September

Vin Diesel fans: Start your engines.    The action just doubled down on 2013, meaning you’ll get more Vin for your money. With the sixth Fast and the Furious film ready to roar into theaters on May 24, Diesel just confirmed via THR that his planned Pitch Black sequel – simply titled Riddick – will storm multiplexes on Sept. 6.    Diesel reunites with writer/director David Twohy for the third chapter of their sci-fi storyline, which Diesel has been telling journalists will refernce the dark, lean methods of Pitch Black (instead of the bloated, flashy The Chronicles of Riddick, which alienated fans).    THR adds that Riddick will be released in IMAX by Universal.   So tell us, Diesel fans – which Vin...

'Riddick' Set For Late Summer Release

19 December 2012 5:45 AM, PST | ShadowAndAct | See recent ShadowAndAct news »

All the previous announcements were that the latest installment of the Riddick film series starring Vin Diesel, and once again written and directed by David Twohy, to be called simply Riddick, would come out sometime during the first quarter of 2013. However, Universal has announced that the R rated film will be released on Sept. 6, which is not exactly a good time to release it. Usually the late August/early September period right after the big summer releases is the worst time to release a film. It's where studios like to dump their worst films which have little chance of any box office success. Perhaps Universal is trying to buck the trend, or maybe they know »

Riddick Finally Gets a Release Date

19 December 2012 1:27 AM, PST | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Riddick, the third film in following the infamous criminal of the same name (a sequel to Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick), has had a somewhat rocky production and even though it wrapped up filming a few months ago, there's been nary a mention as to when fans might see it.  Now we know as Universal Pictures has finally announced a release date.

The sequel to Chronicles of Riddick has been long-gestating.  First it didn't seem like it was going to happen, because of the director's (David Twohy) insistence on an R rating.  Then things finally came together and Vin Diesel started showing off concept art and minor details on his Facebook page.  Filming finally started...then had to shut down because the money stopped coming.  Eventually the money came back and production resumed again.  So, it's been a long and winding road to this film.

News Simon Brew Dec 19, 2012

Vin Diesel returns to the big screen as Riddick in the autumn of 2013, it's been confirmed...

It sounds like it’s been something of a battle, and a labour of love on behalf of David Twohy and Vin Diesel, to bring Riddick back to the big screen. It’s little secret that there were financial-related issues earlier in the production that nearly led to Riddick being shut down, but thankfully, these were resolved.

And that means that the coast is clear for the new film to make its way to cinemas. The new film is now in post-production, and David Twohy has written and directed it. In front of the camera, Diesel is joined by Katee Sackhoff and Karl Urban.

Finally, we now know when to expect the film too. The new Riddick movie, it’s been announced, will arrive in cinemas on September 6th. Furthermore, »
